My Take: Why Christians are embracing their LGBT neighborsEditor’s note: Ross Murray is director of religion, faith and values at GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. By Ross Murray, Special to CNN America is embracing its lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender citizens. Don’t believe me? Just look at the progress being made in faith communities. The Christian church was once considered the final holdout for those who oppose equality for LGBT people. Staunch believers could gather in worship with people who thought just like them to hear sermons affirming the anti-LGBT beliefs they held in common. For those of us who identify as LGBT, church was a place of fear and secrets. We had to figure out how to hide ourselves or how to find a more welcoming community. But that is changing. Although there is still a variety of scriptural interpretations, an increasing number of Christians are reading scripture and understanding that God’s design for the world includes LGBT people. It follows, good Christians believe, that if God made them, then I am called to love and support them. Whole Christian denominations have accepted and embraced the reality of LGBT believers within their ranks and in their leadership. Lutherans, Episcopalians, Presbyterians, the United Church of Christ and Unitarians have formally accepted LGBT people within their denominations. Even within denominations and faith groups whose policies don’t fully welcome LGBT people, there are growing numbers of people who have learned to love and accept their lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender brothers and sisters. The Public Religion Research Institute found this year that as many as 71% of Catholics in America support lesbian and gay people, even up to the point of civil marriage, despite the Roman Catholic hierarchy telling them otherwise. Of course, there still are Christian groups who work actively against equal protections for LGBT people and their families. Indeed, as more Americans get to know and love their LGBT neighbors, the messages and vocal misinformation of anti-gay activists become even more shrill. And yet more and more Christians are now living out the message of 1 John 4:18, “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” How did this happen? More Christians now know someone who is LGBT. They probably even know someone from their church. There are countless faithful Christians who identify as LGBT. These are folks who have found their faith in God to be stronger than the opposition of vocal anti-gay activists. These LGBT Christians have shared their lives and their stories that build up love and break down fear, leading to tangible progress, especially with young people. According to the Public Religion Research Institute, there is at least a 20-point gap between those ages 18 to 29 and those ages 65 and older on every public policy measure in the survey concerning equality for gay and lesbian people, with younger Americans gravitating toward equality. Even Christian-identified young people increasingly support protections for lesbian and gay people, the same survey found. Those who oppose equality can call it what they like, but the reality is that we are living in a society that has learned how to value LGBT people as they would others. That attitude doesn’t rely on fear or lies, but on caring relationships and trust. It lives out the apostle Paul’s wish for the Corinthians that someday we will know fully, even as we are fully known. It is a biblically informed reality that is helping to make the world a better place. The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of Ross Murray. |

What else can you expect from a GLAAD director, objectivety, truth? Nah, this is just one big GLBT commercial. Consider the source.
So Mike, seen any talking snakes today?
Mike,
Please tell us about unicorns, too, from your reliable source.
And while your at it Mike, can you tell us how a man lived in a whale's belly.
Oh, and what is oil?
Holy crap, I LOVE unicorns.
I certainly DO NOT condone any physical nor emotional aggression toward our LGBT neighbors. In fact, as true Christians, the Bible teaches us to have love and compassion and an utmost sincere approach to their person. We are to love everyone. And to love everyone means to truly point out what God through His word is communicating to us and not omit or distort biblical facts.
Having said this, Mr. Murray is cutting Paul's writings to the Corinthians short on this subject. Though Paul wrote to them concerning love and to avoid warring with one another in the Corinthians church, he also warned them about unrighteousness and s e x u a l i m m o r a l i t y with one another in 1 Corinthians 6:9 - "Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor h o m o s e x u a l s, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God."
To warn people about the effects of not loving thy neighbor, no matter who or what he/she is totally ok. But to not warn them about God's wrath toward the unrighteous and the immoral is the total opposite of "loving thy neighbor". Yes, God is Love, fully...and He is also fully righteous, fully Holy, and fully just. As a matter of fact, His love is one of His many important qualities.
BoldGeoarge – the word homosexual was added later by bias and prejudice people like you, no wonder you are so drawn to that particular one.
Absolutely right. Love the sinner; hate the sin.
BoldGeorge,
Corinthians (11:6) also says “For if a woman does not cover her head (while praying), let her also have her hair cut off”.
So what was your point?
George Your Bible is a blatant mistranslation. St. Paul didn't write h o m o s e x u a l a in the original Koine Greek of the epistles.
Seems pretty easy for anyone to just pick and choose what they want to see in the scripture. It's working for you...
Just more self-righteousness masquerading as "morality". Just because a book you happen to believe in says something is wrong doesn't make it so....and it certainly doesn't instantly apply to all people just because you say it does.
Religion and morality are not synonymous.
"Absolutely right. Love the sinner; hate the sin"
You do realize that was a Hindu phrase and appears nowhere in the KJB.
In the Bible, St. Peter says in the Acts of the Apostle the "It is beter to follow God than man's ways."
It also says you should follows mans law like you would in the "kingdom". So...your point? The whole book is filled with contradictions.
So either the unchanging word of God has evolved -or- people are deciding to interpret this word to suit their own choices ... so either the bible is wrong or it simply no longer matters.
Posting this does nothing....us intelligent people understand how irrelevant that book is....us intelligent people are open and honest when discussing the big questions. THEY cant be honest so why would anything you say change their way of thinking? Its like yelling at a brick wall.
People want to make the Bible fit their lives, not fit their lives to the Bible.
I know ... it's just a fun exercise in futility to try anyway.
Why is this LGBT stuff being pushed on us?
Its the political correctness of the media.....im still using the word gay...im not using LGBT...
Duh William because they deserve the same civil rights you have, moron.
"Its the political correctness of the media.....im still using the word gay...im not using LGBT..."
Hey dumbas s, do you know what the "G" in LGBT stands for?
Do you see lgbt in the animal kingdom? Not so much. Can 2 men have a baby together? Not so much. Answer this...are child mo1lesters born that way???should that be legal? Should that be accepted?
We can love ALL our neighbors but that does not mean we condone their sin. Man can change his laws as much as he wants but God's law will never change.
"nswer this...are child mo1lesters born that way???should that be legal? Should that be accepted?"
Oh hey look the lame argument again because this moron can't understand what consent means. YAWN – over and over again we've had this discussion that makes you a moron.
You see it everywhere in the Animal kingdom...from dolphins to monkeys. Its completely normal and if you cant accept FACT for what it is then you should be put down. Its bad enough you believe....
Actually, you do see it in the animal kingdom. So there goes that argument.....
And, humans are animals, so you never had a leg to stand on with that argument.
i truly hope that all you moronic haters that are bathed in your ignorance die with come on your faces...from the same gender! that way – according to you losers, you don't get to go to heaven! HAHA
Poet
You should be getting all over CNN not the visionaries of truth. The last line from CNN above " It is a biblically informed reality that is helping to make the world a better place."
Dont get angry just get a better informed reality.
"It is a biblically informed reality that is helping to make the world a better place."
the reality is that being gay is not a sin and that literalist are the worse kind of christian.
This article is a load of poo poo.
Christianity the last holdout? Have you met Islam? It's still considered a capital crime worthy of death.
"If evolution were true, science would not be possible because there would be no reason to accept the uniformity of nature upon which all science and technology depend. Nor would there be any reason to think that rational analysis would be possible since the thoughts of our mind would be nothing more than the inevitable result of mindless chemical reactions."
What else did Ronald McDonald have to say on the issue?
so if you believe God made our minds nothing more than random chemical reactions .. then it would be acceptable? If your random chemical reactions could only understand how ridiculous your "argument" is.
What creationist rag did you pull that one from?
CNN just HAS to have something in relation to the BGLT community, like every week.
It's call hits so they can get more advertising dollars.
Versus their entire section for "belief".....Hmmmm
I mean, gay rights is totally irrelevant in today's culture, and it's certainly not a current issue. We should just ignore it. Then maybe it will go away and we can all live in a little box.
“Evolution is unproved and unprovable. We believe it only because the only alternative is special creation – which is unthinkable.” – Sir Authur Keith, famous British evolutionist
I dont care what some clown said. There is WAY more evidence on our side then just a blank assertion by yours....micro evolution has been proven in the lab....MACRO evolution is the one that we cant fully prove. HOWEVER we are light years ahead of you as you shrugged your shoulders and said "God did it". You sell yourself short and thats why your wrong.
To get a gauge of just how jaw-droppingly inane the belief in Adam and Eve is in the 21st Century, here are some areas fundamentalists must ignore, any one of which proves beyond rational argument that, not surprisingly, the World did not start about 6,000 years ago at the behest of the Judeo-Christian god, with one man, one woman and a talking snake.
First and most obviously is the fossil record. The fossil record is much, much more than just dinosaurs. Indeed, dinosaurs only get the press because of their size, but they make up less than 1% of the entire fossil record. Life had been evolving on Earth for over 3 thousand million years before dinosaurs evolved and has gone on evolving for 65 million years after the Chicxulub meteor wiped them out.
The fossil record includes the Stromatolites, colonies of prokaryotic bacteria, that range in age going back to about 3 billion years, the Ediacara fossils from South Australia, widely regarded as among the earliest multi-celled organisms, the Cambrian species of the Burgess shale in Canada (circa – 450 million years) the giant scorpions of the Silurian Period, the giant, wingless insects of the Devonian period, the insects, amphibians, reptiles; fishes, clams, crustaceans of the Carboniferous Period, the many precursors to the dinosaurs, the dinosaurs themselves, the subsequent dominant mammals, including the saber tooth tiger, the mammoths of North America and Asia, the fossils of early man in Africa and the Neanderthals of Europe.
The fossil record shows a consistent and worldwide evolution of life on Earth dating back to about 3,500,000,000 years ago. There are literally millions of fossils that have been recovered, of thousands of different species and they are all located where they would be in the geological record if life evolved slowly over billions of years. None of them can be explained by a 6,000 year old Earth and Noah’s flood. Were they all on the ark? What happened to them when it docked?
A Tyrannosaurus Rex ate a lot of food – meat- which means its food would itself have to have been fed, like the food of every other carnivore on the ark. A bit of “back of the envelope” math quickly shows that “Noah’s Ark” would actually have to have been an armada of ships bigger than the D Day invasion force, manned by thousands and thousands of people – and this is without including the World’s 300,000 current species of plants, none of which could walk merrily in twos onto the Ark.
Secondly, there are those little things we call oil, natural gas and other fossil fuels. Their mere existence is another, independent and fatal blow to the creationists. Speak to any geologist who works for Exxon Mobil, Shell or any of the thousands of mining, oil or natural gas related companies that make a living finding fossil fuels. They will tell you these fossil fuels take millions of years to develop from the remains of large forests (in the case of coal) or tiny marine creatures (in the case of oil). That’s why they are called fossil fuels. Have a close look at coal, you can often see the fossilized leaves in it. The geologists know exactly what rocks to look for fossil fuels in, because they know how to date the rocks to millions of years ago. Creationists have no credible explanation for this (nor for why most of it was “given to the Muslims”).
Thirdly, most of astronomy and cosmology would be wrong if the creationists were right. In short, as Einstein showed, light travels at a set speed. Space is so large that light from distant stars takes many years to reach the Earth. In some cases, this is millions or billions of years. The fact that we can see light from such far away stars means it began its journey billions of years ago. The Universe must be billions of years old. We can currently see galaxies whose light left home 13.7 billion years ago. Indeed, on a clear night, one can see many stars more than 6,000 light years away with the naked eye, shining down like tiny silent witnesses against the nonsense of creationism.
Fourthly, we have not just carbon dating, but also all other methods used by scientists to date wood, rocks, fossils, and other artifacts. These comprehensively disprove the Bible’s claims. They include uranium-lead dating, potassium-argon dating as well as other non-radioactive methods such as pollen dating, dendrochronology and ice core dating. In order for any particular rock, fossil or other artifact to be aged, generally two or more samples are dated independently by two or more laboratories in order to ensure an accurate result. If results were random, as creationists claim, the two independent results would rarely agree. They generally do. They regularly reveal ages much older than Genesis. Indeed, the Earth is about 750,000 times older than the Bible claims.
Fifthly, the relatively new field of DNA mapping not only convicts criminals, it shows in undeniable, full detail how we differ from other life forms on the planet. For example, about 98.4% of human DNA is identical to that of chimpanzees, about 97% of human DNA is identical to that of gorillas, and slightly less again of human DNA is identical to the DNA of monkeys. This gradual divergence in DNA can only be rationally explained by the two species diverging from a common ancestor, and coincides perfectly with the fossil record. Indeed, scientists can use the percentage of DNA that two animal share (such as humans and bears, or domestic dogs and wolves) to get an idea of how long ago the last common ancestor of both species lived. It perfectly corroborates the fossil record and is completely independently developed. It acts as yet another fatal blow to the “talking snake” theory.
Sixthly, the entire field of historical linguistics would have to be rewritten to accommodate the Bible. This discipline studies how languages develop and diverge over time. For example, Spanish and Italian are very similar and have a recent common “ancestor” language, Latin, as most people know. However, Russian is quite different and therefore either did not share a common root, or branched off much earlier in time. No respected linguist anywhere in the World traces languages back to the Tower of Babel, the creationists’ explanation for different languages. Indeed, American Indians, Australian Aboriginals, “true” Indians, Chinese, Mongols, Ja.panese, Sub-Saharan Africans and the Celts and other tribes of ancient Europe were speaking thousands of different languages thousands of years before the date creationist say the Tower of Babel occurred – and even well before the date they claim for the Garden of Eden.
Seventhly, lactose intolerance is also a clear vestige of human evolution. Most mammals only consume milk as infants. After infancy, they no longer produce the enzyme “lactase” that digests the lactose in milk and so become lactose intolerant. Humans are an exception and can drink milk as adults – but not all humans – some humans remain lactose intolerant. So which humans are no longer lactose intolerant? The answer is those who evolved over the past few thousand years raising cows. They evolved slightly to keep producing lactase as adults so as to allow the consumption of milk as adults. This includes most Europeans and some Africans, notably the Tutsi of Rwanda. On the other hand, most Chinese, native Americans and Aboriginal Australians, whose ancestors did not raise cattle, remain lactose intolerant.
I could go on and elaborate on a number of other disciplines or facts that creationists have to pretend into oblivion to retain their faith, including the Ice Ages, cavemen and early hominids, much of microbiology, paleontology and archeology, continental drift and plate tectonics, even large parts of medical research (medical research on monkeys and mice only works because they share a common ancestor with us and therefore our fundamental cell biology and basic body architecture is identical to theirs).
In short, and not surprisingly, the World’s most gifted evolutionary biologists, astronomers, cosmologists, geologists, archeologists, paleontologists, historians, modern medical researchers and linguists (and about 2,000 years of accu.mulated knowledge) are right and a handful of Iron Age Middle Eastern goat herders were wrong.
So by your own admission you have no proof or evidence for what you believe, yet you are "light years ahead"? How enlightening...
Um, Colin...the Bible never said that EVERY animal was on the ark...it said one of every KIND. Maybe you should go read the book that you claim to know is wrong.
Yeah, that makes so much more sense. You fundamentalist morons should not be allowed to speak to children under 15.
"Um, Colin...the Bible never said that EVERY animal was on the ark...it said one of every KIND. Maybe you should go read the book that you claim to know is wrong."
Actually, it said two of every kind.
So tell me Mr Scientist, what did the animals eat and drink on the ark?
Did jeebus wave his magic wand every day and create food?
Colin
Did you fail to read the last line of this wonderful CNN article “It is a biblically informed reality that is helping to make the world a better place.” Let us make this our motto for the future generations. You and I together with a purple banner of truth.
Children today we will learn the Biblical truth about fossil fuels. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. This is the first line of the Bible because we need to know our creator before we can understand His purpose for us. Take special note God is Divine His existence needs no special explanation or defense. Nothing here is said of the time of creation be it thousands or millions of years. Nothing is said of the method of creation or what this intial creation was like. No finite being could create so we know God is infinite. A sense of a personal nature in God comes through without the need to even record it. That is the first line of the Bible. We should take a nap now because that is a lot of new infromation to take in.
Children beware of any who would claim the Bible says fossil fuels were created a few thousand years ago. The Bible speaks only Divine truth and clearly never speaks about fossil fuels yet alone when or how God created them.
Colin, you have read the Bible I know because of your previous detail. Please go back to the first verse in Genesis and note Genesis 1:1 “God created the heavens and the earth” then without further explanation verse 2 “the earth was formless and darkness was over the surface of the deep”. This is very important to the theme of the Bible and I will get to that later. As for now take note that almost everything you mention to attack the Bible based on timeline is from evidence that man is digging up is from this first creation. The time scale can be billions of years we are not told because it does not matter to the story of the Bible. The Bible is not intended to be a complete scientific journal from the beginning.
Professionals have taken fossils and measurements from the earth and are trying to piece together what this first heaven and earth looked like. There was a big battle in the principalities when Lucifer was cast out of heaven and we will talk about that latter. Most people think this had something to do with what comes next but we are not told. Now, the spirit of God is hovering over what remains and begins with light to bring order to the earth followed by God forming man. This also is important because man was formed from what was, not created as in the first event. At this point we have a timeline. It is about 6,000 years since these first 6 days where darkness and lifelessness was reconstructed by God into light and life. When God brought order to the chaos
Dinosaurs and all that stuff you dug up was covered over when God separated the light and separated the waters. The proof that this was the work of God is that He used your 10 point formula. Ten times in the creation process God said “let there be” and there was a Divine Decalogue.
This christian is not embracing it! IT'S WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh an definitely NOT a christian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All Christians are wrong...all religious people for that matter
So is hate, yet you seem to embrace that just fine.
Whtney, are you a Greek or Hebrew scholar? I know several who are and are ordained Christian ministers and I am here to tell you that the interpretation you believe in is the same one that believes women have no place of authority within the church and probably believed that slavery was ok back in the 1950's because Jesus admonished those being slaves to be the best slaves possible. You are WRONG in your interpretation of those passages and if you dig deep into the Greek and Hebrew texts you will see that. It's easy to read anything literally. If you read scripture literally I hope you have no one in your family who is divorced and remarried, because if you do they are commiting adultery and should be stoned to death!!!!!
No, YOU are wrong Whitney. Stop hating and start loving. Hate gets you no where in your soul.
While many of the typical self-righteous comments from the religious simply reaffirm my certainty that religion is nothing more than a system that corrupts the minds of well-intentioned people, this article is at least a tiny speck of hope that more people are beginning to see this as well.
But I will not trust a hope that this is in any way indicative of the overall religious mindset.
What I truly hope this IS an indication of however, is that more people are beginning to see the true face of religion and all its discriminatory ways, and that they will cut that thing (religion) out of their lives that they now realize is nothing more than a method of teaching how to hate others.
Christianity is the belief that an infinitely-old, all-knowing being, powerful enough to create the entire Universe and its billions of galaxies, has a personal interest in my $ex life.
Atheism is the belief that the above belief is ridiculous.
Atheism is not believing in God, so you can rationalize doing anything you want that is wrong
Huh? Since when is morality predicated upon a belief in the christian sky-fairy?
Actually, the humanistic principles that most of us atheists live by predate christianity.
We just don't have to reference a 2000 year old book of fairy tales to be good to other people.
Christian moral superiority = FAIL.
Hi Colin Yes He Is Interested About Every Detail Of Your Life, And Mine And We Should Be Thankful. Psalm 139;13-14 For You Formed My Inward Parts; You Covered Me In My Mothers Womb. I Will Praise You, For I am Fearfully And Wonderfully Made:Marvelous Are Your Works And That My Soul Knows Very Well.
I am afraid of an atomic bomb, untreatable new viruses, Hurricanes, tornadoes and fire...but none of these things terrifies me more than a self-righteous, intolerant bible quoting Christian. These people have literally hijacked Christian principals and used them to justify their own bigoted ends. Creepy!!!!!
Whoa Whoa Whoa...they didn't hi jack anything. YOU pick and choose, they take it literally. When you go to seminary school they teach you that the bible was written 200 years AFTER the death of Jesus. ITS A FACT. Why take anything from that book? Its not like morality comes from there. Its an old myth book just like all the others. NOTHING MORE.
You obviously have not read the bible at all. It is the foundation of the law and morality itself. Stop being so ignorant and read a book sometime instead of watching TV
"It is the foundation of the law and morality itself. "
LOL – really so stoning your children to death if they talk back to you, a woman has to marry her rapist, you can own slaves, etc..... is morality? LOL!
@Chris is wrong
The basis for morality itself?
So every civilization that existed before teh publication of the Bible was immoral?
All the people in the world who haven't been exposed to your book lack moral fibre?
The author said that, "...Presbyterians... have formally accepted LGBT people within their denominations." While this may be true of the P.C. (U..S.A). denomination, that is not true of the other Presbyterian denominations in America. His article inacurrately depicts the beliefs of the many Presbyterian denominations in America.
@G'wan, obviously you are one of those goofy evolutionists who have no evidence so you just add "millions of years" to everything in an attempt to explain everything, right? So, let me ask you...if evolution is true, why is the universe running out of energy? Wouldn't common sense suggest that if the universe is eternal and evolving (like you believe), that the universe would be gaining in complexity. Yet, science, the holy grail of "every thinking person", tells us that the universe is winding down towards disorder, not higher levels of order. Like all "suppressors of the real truth", I'm sure you'll have some scientific nonsense repsonse that doesn't add up, but I do need a little humor this afternoon...
Mike, I agree. Evolution is like that other silly theory – the va.ginal birth of human beings. I’m pleased that you pointed out the flaws in the former, so allow me to address the latter.
It is OBVOIUS to me that storks bring babies! I have never seen a woman giving birth, but I have seen a lot of storks, especially on margarine containers. If you ever go to the beach, you will lots of storks carrying babies. They look just like pelicans because they carry the babies in their mouths. If women gave birth to babies, there would be no need for a navel, but that is how the stork picks the babies up from HEAVEN.
There is no REAL evidence that women give birth to babies. It is just a THEORY. If they did, why is it that men never give birth to babies? Why just women? Where do boys come from? It makes no sense. Also, why are there only “midwives” and never “mid-husbands”?
If women gave birth to babies, why are there still women and babies? And why is it you never see a half-woman, half-baby!! Explain that evolutionists and va.ginal birth believers! Bet you CAN’T.
If you look at a stork, it is INTELLIGENTLY designed to carry babies. Why would that be if it didn’t deliver babies? And what about twins and triplets? What, do some women have 2, or even 3 uteruses? That is stupid. A stork can EASILLY carry two or three babies, but a woman couldn’t.
Why is it that for every 50 boys born, there are 50 girls. What, can a va.gina count? Ha, how stupid. But a stork could. And, what about all the GAPS in the birth record. One time I took a peek at my mother’s va.gina, and it was so small and babies are SO BIG.
You evolutionists are so dumb. Your think babies JUST HAPPENED in their mother’s womb. What, do you think they just appeared out of yucky, slimy blood and stuff ? Fred Hoyle once calculated that the chance of a baby spontaneously appearing in a woman’s uterus was the same as a storm blowing through a junkyard and creating a Boing-747. That’s harder to believe than that the stork brought them!
You might like to think you came from a mere zygote, but I KNOW I came from a glorious stork.
My father insist that I was born because he banged my mother. I derisively call this the Big Bang theory, because he cannot tell me what happened BEFORE the Big bang. And what caused the Big Bang. It must have been a stork.
Energy wouldn't be infinite. The energy expened in the Big Bang would "wind down". Now the theory that the universe collapses on itself to create a Bigger Bang...well not sure how that happens.
The universe does not lose energy. It's all still here from the big bang, just more spread out. And it is true that everything is becoming more disorderly. And what do you think is more orderly? A single celled organism that wastes no energy as it moves through it's life and never changes, or humans with many cells that don't always work well together, change throughout our lives, and expel tons of energy even when we're sitting around doing nothing?
Evolution is real. Micro evolution has been shown to be real in labs and do you know what happens when there is a lot of micro evolution over a long period of time? I'll give you a hint, the changing of one species into another more complicated, and less oderly, species.
Mike,
Thank you for pointing out that you have no idea who to apply the Second Law of Thermodynamics. The universe is a closed system, thus the 2nd law is applicable. The earth is not. Nice fail.
Love the sinner but hate the sin. One can preach moral cleanliness without pointing fingers and treat others with respect. We are all children of God and we are all sinners.
'Love the sinner but hate the sin."
Where does it say that exactly in your bible?
"Hate the sin, love the sinner" is nothing more than a convenience offered to religious people so they can appear on the surface to be tolerant, without actually having to be.
bible say to shun sin not accept the sinner
as a matter of fact it says ALL gays will burn. PERIOD
you cant change it. and to accept it is sin as well. it even tells you that this very debate is a sign of the end. congratulation folks, you have fullfiled the word of god. but unfortuitly it says you will be with them if you accept them. you know those who speal evil of good and good of evil. so i hope you like the heat, because you are bound for a destination much much futher south than miami. hope you repent, but thats your chioce. Gats are an out right abomination unto god, which in little words means much much worse than a simple sin. so good luck with saveing your soul.
"Love the sinner, hate the sin" is actually a phrase roughly translated from St Augustine, but made into its famous form by Ghandi. Ironic, eh? So many Christians toss it out as if it's scripture, when in fact most would balk to realize that their adage comes from a non-Christian. Love it.
Regardless, LET HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE. Let's all love each other– gay, straight, white, yellow, black, Saudi, Swedish, all of it. All of us are brothers and sisters, and children of an awesome God, so let's be cool with each other please.
Although Unitarian Universalism has Christian roots, it is not (as the article implies) a Christian denomination. It openly welcomes people of all faiths and of no faith at all. Some UU churches are quite "Christianish" while others are completely humanist.
