Hate crime numbers steady, FBI reports

By Terry Frieden, CNN Justice Department Producer

Washington (CNN) – As New York authorities investigate what appears to be the nation's latest hate crime, the FBI's annual hate crime report, released Monday, shows no significant change in the level of crimes motivated by bias.

The FBI's annual report comes on the heels of a weekend incident in a Jewish section of Brooklyn in which three vehicles were set ablaze and graffiti was scrawled across park benches.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg issued a statement declaring the attackers to be "a twisted person or people."

"This kind of hateful act has no place in the freest city in the freest country in the world," Bloomberg said.

The new hate crime statistics show anti-Jewish bias remains far and away the most prevalent form of hate crime directed at a religious group.

In 2010, the number of anti-Jewish incidents reported in the United States totaled 887 of roughly 1,300 cases in which a religion was targeted.

The next largest category was anti-Islamic bias, which was reported in 160 incidents. Anti-Catholic bias ranked third with 58 reported incidents.

I bet the black on white hate crime is low in the stats, because the powers that be say 1.black people can't be racist. 2.The hate crime laws were made to protect minorities not whites. That one came right of the White House, talking about the Black Panthers at the voting polls.

What does a Christian believe in? Can you help me with at least 3 fundamental things?

I would never presume to answer for anyone else, so these are my personal beliefs. However, I'm not a typical Christian in that I have a huge problem with any kind of denomination or sect. 1) Matt. 22:37 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." 2) 22:39 Love your neighbor as yourself" also John 3:16 Love one another "let us not love with words or tongue but in actions and in truth." John 4:20 "If anyone says "I love God" yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone whom does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen." Neighbor and brother refer to all mankind. Fruits of walking the path of Jesus: Galatians 5:22 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." These are my beliefs. The world would be a wonderful place if all people at least attempted to live by these ideals.

And of course humility and forgiveness. Arrogance and pride should be avoided. Forgiveness of man's "trespasses" upon you-insults and actions. Holding grudges allows bitterness to fester and overtake your life. Peace be with you

I never blogged before, but this triggered my fingers to start typing. Jealousy is the root of hate! Its so obvious! Ppl should live THEIR own lives, and not resent others for anything (good or bad). Wake up and say 'this is MY day' not... 'This is my day to criticize others (especially thru violence). The clearest way of thought is that this world consists of GD and YOU. Do as He wishes, and all the disgruntled ppl may be able to move on with their OWN lives. Occupy your own behavior, occupy your own thoughts, and occupy your OWN empowerment to succeed. Pushing blame on others is clearly a cop out.

@hippy What I have to say about the Nicea Creed is that it was drafted by the Papacy. I'm not a Cathoilic, but I do believe, and I want to make it very clear: there are many very sincere Christians in the Catholic Church who love God, and accept Christ as their Savior, but I also believe, along with many of the protestant reformers, the Papacy is the anti-Christ. I have only read an abreviated form of the Nicea Creed, and although there is much that I may agree with, there was enough in it for me to reject it as unbiblical. I also believe that any Protestant Christian who says they agree with the creed, either they do not know what is stated in the creed, or they are not truly Protestant. I say , not to ridicule you, but as a matter of fact, you read the Nicea Creed from a secular view point, not a spiritual point of view, there is a difference.

look, the catholic church didn't draft any such doctrine... the so called catholic church wasn't in existence when the creed was written.. the creed was written to unite the people who followed jesus as the messiah, which is what you claim to be... a believer in jesus as the messiah – right? here i shall post the creed so we can properly discuss the topic....We believe in one God,
      the Father, the Almighty,
      maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
      the only Son of God,
      eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
      true God from true God,
      begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
      he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
      and was made man.
      For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
      in accordance with the Scriptures;
      he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

now, what part of this do you npot believe... cause i have read your posts for a while now and i think you argue sometimes for the sake of arguing.. my basis for this is i have read your posts and i have seen you argue for all of this in the creed...yet you don't follow it....i'm confused and before i insult – which i am in a rather insulting mood – i would be calmed by a proper conversation... please be happy and oblige me... i most likely misspelt oblige but who really cares. oh and for your own understanding, i am just mad at my wife and so tend to lash out – i try not to, but i am only human.

did you know that only after the jewish revolt ,which ended with the destruction of the second temple in 71 a.d., the folks who followed jesus as there messiah started calling themselves christians – it was inpart to separat themselves from the jews and so they wouldn't be killed because of the revolt. Funny enough this did nothing but give another group to be abused by the Romans... and the jews were an old topic, christians being new, were in like flinn! just random facts.

Guys I think we should focus on a pray that jesus taught. Jesus gave us an example of how we should pray. Why not follow that example? Ater all it is from the Son of God. It is called the Lord's prayer. This prayer, Jesus Christ himself taught. If you are really interested in knowing the pray read Matthew 6:9-13

"This, then, is how you should pray: " 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. '

please confirm this as true.. "After all it is from the Son of God" how do you know he was who he claimed to be... i can claim to be many things, but alas i am only who i am, but at least i speak about truth that is provible...you hope your beliefs are true, you dream of a place called heaven and fear the place called hell...but can you prove these places exist outside your mind?

Hippo, Your fact are incorrect, the people in the time of Jesus Christ didnt call themselves Christian to escape persecution. The word Christian was a word of down cast/insult used to call those who follow Christ. And, they were persecuted because they followed Christ. The Jews were the ones who persecuted them through the Romans. Hippo! Get your fact straight or you'll be branded as a false teacher / lier.

in truth i wish i was wrong more often so i would learn more, but with people like you, i feel the need to know as much as possible – and no sir – you are wrong.. it was only during the time of the jewish revolt that the followers of jesus as there messiah started calling themselves christians... i said they called themselves christians, not others referred to them as... big difference... go get a history book and put the bible down. AFTER this point in history they kept the name for a few reasons – others were calling them that, it separated them from the jewish people, and it was a homage if you will to there messiah. Which funny story here, the man was jewish, he was supposed to be the messiah of the jews, and yet the jews don't believe he was the messiah... why, do you know? – i do!!

The idea of so-called "Hate crimes" is the dumbest idea in history. A person who is getting their throat cut should be under no illusion that the person doing the cutting loves them. Hate crimes are just a construct liberals have set up to double up the punishments for the people groups...should I say it.. the people groups that they hate...:

Our Attorney General explained it well... Whites & Christians need not apply... They're not "Crimes that have a historic basis" ??!!! and he's the AG? Ever read "Foxes Book of Martyrs"

Essentially, the Liberals have a list of people whose lives they deem more valuable than the rest. That is the bottom line.

You do have a point that "hate crimes" is a construct. It's similar to those people who claim the opponents are "pro-abortion" and "pro-life" when the reality is that it is "pro-choice" and "anti-choice".

Guys! let's get real. Someone can hate another and not act but control their anger and come to there senses that hatred can produce evil actions. "Hate Crimes" simply categorizes harmful or deadly actions resulting from hatred from one person or group to another person or goup. Jesus said:

(Mark 12:31) 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
(John13:34) Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
( Matthew 5:22) But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment.

      @Martin

Please educate yourself on what a hate crime actually is and how people are punished for committing one. White people and christians are just as protected under the statute as anyone else, don't be a tool.

@hippy 12:52 post I don't have time to say much, but I don't don't know why you said what you said, because I don't agree with the creed of nicea, but I still consider myself a Christian.

consider yourself what you wish... doesn't make it so...a christian is one who adheres to whats stated in the creed as it was set forth by those that started the so called christian tradition...using your argument, if i consider myself a doctor does that make it so?

That's not a good analogy, hippypoet. A delusional person can make up anything they like and call it good. They might not even be aware of what they are doing, either. Delusional people are like that sometimes. According to some Christians, all it takes is the declaration regardless of internal belief, where the action of speaking is enough rather than the internal support for the delusion. Others might say only their sect is real Christians because of such and so. You are talking to people who do not have a firm grasp on reality. They are all mentally ill to some degree. You can proclaim yourself to be a "Doctor of Love" or whatever, committing fraud or not, knowingly or not and be believed or not depending on who you declare it to.
For some people, they think truth is determined by consensus, like when enough people believe a lie then it must be true somehow or something like that. It doesn't take much.
So you are a bit off there. Plus, there is no way to prove who is a believer in any religion regardless of what they proclaim.
When anyone can proclaim a religious belief without any way of proving them "wrong", then it's "anything goes" and your argument becomes full of holes.
But I like the point you were trying to make. You express American religious freedom very well right there at the beginning of your post: "consider yourself what you wish... doesn't make it so..."
Yet they are not concerned with what is actually real, but only what they believe in their heads using emotional and cultural feedback to reinforce their beliefs. Facts do not sway them. Reason does not move them.
They avoid logic and reason and common sense, as these are dangerous to any delusional belief system.
So then your trying to argue with them using logic and reason and common sense becomes a lesson in futility.
They will continue to be delusional and you will have wasted your time. Who wins? Nobody but your internet provider....
