Romney's faith a factor for GOP primary?

By Rebecca Stewart, CNN

(CNN) – If half the public says they don't know very much about Mormonism and one-third of Republicans say the Mormon religion is not a Christian faith, how will GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney fare in his bid for the White House?

According to a new national survey, it won't affect Romney in a hypothetical general election faceoff with President Barack Obama, but his Mormon faith may have an impact on the former Massachusetts governor's chances in the GOP primaries and caucuses.

Romney is seeking the Republican presidential nomination for a second time and, as it turns out, opinions about his religion haven't changed since he ran the first time, in 2007.

A Pew Research Center poll released late Tuesday indicates that 52% of Americans said they knew "not very much" or nothing about the Mormon religion in 2007, when Romney sought the presidency for the first time, and 50% say the same now. The number who say Mormonism is a Christian religion-51%–is the same in 2011 as it was in 2007.

these so-called religious people and conservtives are a bunch of hypocrites. How can they reject ROMNEY on the basis of his religion and support a guy like gingrich. ROMNEY IS NOT WORSHIPPING AN ANIMAL NOR ALLAH. THERE IS ONE GOD AND ONE JESUS AND WHICHEVER HE WORSHIP IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME. ON THE MATTER OF DECENCY, GINGRICH HAS NONE , AND HE IS A HYPOCRITE, HE CHEATED ON ALL HIS WIFES AND AT THE SAME TIME HE WAS CALLING FOR CLINTON IMPEACHMENT HE WAS HAVING AN AFFAIR WITH HIS AID. iF YOU PUT GINGRICH IN THE WHITEHOUSE NOW WE KNOW YOU CAN LACK MORALS AND STILL BE THE PRESIDENT OF THE USA

    Summarizing:

    • There was no Abraham i.e. the foundations of Judaism, Christianity and Islam are non-existent.

    • There was no Moses i.e the pillars of Judaism, Christianity and Islam have no strength of purpose.

    • There was no Gabriel i.e. Islam fails as a religion. Christianity partially fails.

    • There was no Easter i.e. Christianity completely fails as a religion.

    • There was no Moroni i.e. Mormonism is nothing more than a business cult.

    • Sacred/revered cows, monkey gods, castes, reincarnations and therefore Hinduism fails as a religion.

    • Fat Buddhas here, skinny Buddhas there, reincarnated Buddhas everywhere makes for a no on Buddhism.

Avdberg – The scriptures that you have been quoting over and over all apply against YOU. You are correct in one thing – the scriptures are not for private interpretation. This especially applies to you. You sound like a real nut case. (Oh, sorry, I couldn't resist stating what is obvious to all intelligent readers of these posts). The likes of you interpreting scripture ...LOL.

You know, the protestant churches have no authority. Paul said in Hebrews 5, "4 And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.

5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee."

How was Aaron called to the priesthood? By one having authority, Moses, and by the laying on of hands. Not even Christ, who demonstrated baptism to us, even though he was sinless, took the priesthood on himself. Paul hints that Christ was ordained a High Priest by his own father, who begot him in the flesh, and who laid his flesh and bone hands on his head in teh same manner and ordained him a high priest.

Christ himself also taught that no man should take the honor of the priesthood on himself. In John 15, Christ said, " 16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you."

Christ wanted it to be perfectly clear that unordained ministers weren't to go running helter skelter around spreading their own interpretations and philosophies, organizing their own churches and then selling his precious teachings for money, and taking advantage of people for their own personal gain by pretending to be a prophet and predicting the end of the world, etc. etc. etc. He wanted his church to be organized orderly under apostles and prophets like he organized his church with Peter at the head and two counselors, James and John, and twelve apostles. Under these were the seventies, bishops, evangelists, teachers and other officers of the Melchizedeck and Aaronic priesthoods. There is only one church today organized the way Christ organized his original church. To see and hear the modern day apostles and prophets and read their words, go to lds.org.

Mormons believe in the same Jesus Christ as all other Christians believe in.

We believe in the Jesus Christ who was the only begotten of God the Father, who was born of Mary, who at 30 yrs of age went about doing good, preaching his gospel, performing many miracles, who called 12 Apostles, who suffered in the Garden of Gethsemanea for our sins (the atonement), who was crucified and rose from the dead on the 3rd day, who appeared to his Apostles afterwards and gave then the authority (the Priesthood) to conduct the affairs of the Church after he left, who ....(and this part adherents of the Bible only don't know) ... who after his resurrection also visited the Americas (his other sheep that he spoke of in the Bible) and taught them his gospel also (because of the lack of telephones, TV, radio, internet etc back then) .... This same Jesus Christ is the only Jesus Christ we worship and is the only Savior of the world.

After explaining it in so much detail,....for some people to continue to insist that we, Mormons, are not Christian or worship some other God or Jesus......well....some of these people are just plain stupid! Even when we explain it to them very very S L O W L Y...they still don't get it. Well ...I guess ...stupidity is incurable.

      Tallulah13

What you are trying to communicate is a deception. The members of the Mormon Church and any other religion have been deceived as confirmed in Revelation 12:9.

LMB123 wrote earlier that the believers don't know what is in his head. Wrong!! Every believr knows what is in his head and what spirit he serves without error as our judgment is not after the flesh but of God (John 3:8; 5:30; 8:15).

He that is spiritual judgeth (discerneth) all things, yet he himself is judged of no man (1 Cor. 2:15).

Now we know that the members of the Mormon Church are only allowed to read their own propaganda, which is after the spirit and wisdom of this world (1 Cor. 2:4-16). However, we invite you to read the article ‘Mormon Church ~ Cult and Spiritual Harlot’, listed on our website http://www.aworldeceived.ca

To reconfirm. Members of the Mormon Church and other religions speak of a Christ but that is a false Christ in which there is no salvation (Matthew 24:24). They serve after an image of a false God and the spirit of this world and are servants thereof. This is their choice as the prefer darkness over light. This is their condemnation (John 3:19).

The Bible and no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation (2 Peter 1:20). The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Please read the article 'Repent' listed on our website http://www.aworlddeceived.ca for without the Baptism of Repentance (Mark 1:4) the Bible will remain just a story book to mankind without any spiritual meaning, including Mormons.

Really? "my point is simple...only a fool, liar or lunatic would make that assertion."

    • Really?

@Chad – I shouldn't even have to do this, but I'll start at the beginning...the Genesis myth. On a more fundamental level, both sides of a contradiction cannot be true (law of bivalent logic) and the bible is full of both implicit and explicit contradictions (don't bother replying with, "list the contradictions" or something to that effect; they are numerous and self-evident).
So Chad, my sense is that "liar" is not the most accurate description of you (perhaps you lie to yourself, but not others, at least not incorrigibly so)...so, which is it...fool or lunatic?

I got to wondering, if the apostles were alive today, which church would they belong to? I found that Paul wrote about that very subject in 1 Corinthians 1: " 10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of aChrist.

13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?

    14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;

15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name."

    Obviously, Paul would not belong to the church of Luther, or Wycliff, or Baptist, or any of the protestant churches. He would only belong to the Church of Jesus Christ and if he were alive today, he would belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Days, wouldn't he? It is the only church today that is founded on Apostles and Prophets as stated in Ephesians 2, "19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;".

It is the only church built on the rock of revelation as Christ directed in Matthew 16, "16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this arock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

The first Pope was a bishop, not an apostle (the apostles all having died out by then) and a bishop cannot function without authority – the foundation of apostles. The protestant churches are on even shakier ground since they apostatized from the Catholic church. There is no possible way they could claim any authority. The only legitimate church is the one Paul would belong to, The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Days.

What shall we do then? Peter answered that question in Acts 2: "38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. "

We call upon men and women everywhere to come to the only true church and receive a remission of their sins in the waters of baptism and to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For more information go to mormon.org.

By the way Paul would not approve of the bickering going on between churches today. He said there was, "5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism," (Ephesians 4). So, there really is only one true church. The question is, which of the thousands of churches today is the one true church? That's probably the most important question in your life and we invite you to mormon.org to look for that answer.

forget this stupidity... if his belief in any god dictates his actions he is not suitible to hold such a high office! A person of reason is needed, even a person who uses religious stories to gather from those who may have or not made a similar choices but they should not tell the person what is right and wrong – that is a modern understanding and always has been! It will be understood from this day to the end of the world as it has been since the dawn of time that whats accecptible is the "right" and whats the unaccecptible has always been the "wrong" of every time. But always one thing was held above all, the ability to see the issues at hand and deal with them even as new ones arise. THIS IS WHAT I BELIEVE WE NEED AS A PRESIDENT. not this creature nor anything of his ilk...!!!!

Lets try a little logic – Catholics are the experts on Catholicism, Evangelicals are the experts on Evangelicals, Mormons are the experts on Mormonism. I always find it ironic that some non Mormons are always trying to tell ME what I believe. You are not inside my head. Shouldn't it be me telling you? If you want to tell me about YOUR religion, you will have credibility, but telling me what I believe, when you are not of my faith, leaves you quite short on the credibility department. Just saying...
Just wanted to inject a bit of intelligent logic into the conversation.

    November 27, 2011 at 11:59 am |
    • AvdBerg

Now about some spiritual logic. The Catholic Church is The Mystery Babylon and the Mother of Harlots (Rev. 17:5), while other religions are the daughters thereof. They all serve the same spirit and an image of a false God and a false Christ (Matthew 24:24).

For a better understanding of the mysteries of God we invite you to read the articles ‘The Mystery Babylon’ and ‘Can Christianity or Any Other Religion Save You?, listed on our website http://www.aworlddeceived.ca

All of the other pages and articles listed on our website explain how this whole world has been deceived as confirmed by the Word of God in Revelation 12:9. The Bible is true in all things and is the discerner of every thought and the intent of the heart (Hebrews 5:12). The truth is that the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (1 Cor. 2:14). This is why we call all of mankind to repentance.

Seek, and ye shall find (Matthew 7:7).
