Bishop Eddie Long's wife files for divorceBy the CNN Wire Staff ATLANTA (CNN) -Vanessa Long, the wife of Georgia televangelist Bishop Eddie Long, is not withdrawing the divorce petition filed Thursday, despite a statement issued through her husband's church indicating that she had reconsidered, her lawyer said Friday. "Consistent with her original statement made this morning, Mrs. Long continues to hope that this matter may be resolved expeditiously, harmoniously and fairly; however, she has determined that dismissal of her divorce petition is not appropriate at this time," said Michael W. Tyler, a partner with the Atlanta-based firm, Kilpatrick Townsend.
"To avoid any undue confusion, Mrs. Long's future statements, if any, will be issued through her attorneys only. At this time, neither she nor we will have any further comment on this matter." The statement, sent Friday night, was the latest twist in a divorce saga that emerged Thursday, when lawyers for Vanessa Long filed divorce documents in Superior Court in DeKalb County, Georgia. Vanessa and Eddie Long are "living in a bona fide state of separation," according to the 12-page petition. The documents adds she "is entitled to a divorce upon grounds that the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken, there being no hope of reconciliation of the parties, and it being in the best interest of all parties concerned that this marriage be terminated by divorce." On Friday, in a statement released to reporters by her lawyer, Vanessa Long said, "It is my sincere hope that this matter can be resolved expeditiously, harmoniously and fairly. I ask that you respect my privacy and that of my family, as my attorneys and I have agreed that we will not try this case in the media, and I do not intend to make any further statements concerning this matter." But this appears counter to another statement also attributed to Vanessa Long and issued Friday afternoon by New Birth Missionary Church in Lithonia, 18 miles east of Atlanta. According to that statement, she says, "Upon prayerful reflection, I have reconsidered and plan to withdraw my petition for divorce from my husband, Bishop Eddie L. Long. I love my husband." Bishop Long is senior pastor of the church, which has more than 25,000 members, according to its website. "I believe in him and admire his strength, and courage," Vanessa Long said, according to this statement. "My filing followed years of attacks in the media that frustrated and overwhelmed me. "I love my family and church family, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. Therefore, my husband and I have mutually agreed to find healing from these attacks. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time." New Birth's website describes Vanessa Long as "the quiet strength" in the family. "She is an inspiration to many of the women at New Birth as they watch her lovingly and quietly support her husband in every sense of the word." Long is being sued by former parishioners who accuse him of persuading them to invest in a Ponzi scheme that wiped out at least $1 million in their retirement savings. And last spring, Bishop Long settled a lawsuit filed by four young men who accused him of pressuring them into sexual relationships while they were teenagers and members of Long's congregation at the same north Georgia church. That suit alleged that Long "uses monetary funds from the accounts of New Birth and other corporate and non-profit corporate accounts to entice the young men with cars, clothes, jewelry, and electronics." Long has preached passionately against homosexuality for years. In an August interview, two of Long's accusers said they were haunted by what happened between them and the powerful pastor and added they are writing a tell-all book about their experiences. "It's just not enough anymore. I thought I could cover the pain up. I thought I could move, start over and everything will go away. I was terribly wrong," Jamal Parris, one of the accusers, told CNN affiliate WSB. Parris pointed to a "JL" tattoo on his arm, which he said stands for "Jamal Long." He said Long was with him when he got the tattoo. He said that he grew up without a father and that Long preyed on that vulnerability. "To have a man love me for just who I was. I just had to be me and love him back," Parris said. –CNN's Mia Aquino contributed to this story in Atlanta.

He stole from elderly folks who believed in him, he took their pensions to line his pockets and live a life of luxury. He betrayed the young men who trusted him and betrayed his congregation-plain, simple GREED. The fools who are blinded by his lies will be the next victims of this man who has no scruples. This is sad but as CHRISTIANS we must remember to be CHRIST-LIKE IN ALL THINGS . . . forgiveness is power . . . it is easy to mull over this back & forth till it angers you to the point of wanting to lead him in shackles to a public STONING . . . but "let him who is without sin cast(throw) a stone' ... with that said , all of this is between the Lord & Rev. Long ... dont forget secret , in the dark sins committed by those entrusted as caretakers of our spiritual well being have always somehow come to light for all to see the truth about who they really were & who they really are... just look back at some whom fallen(hard) from grace, publicly disgraced , suffer the loss of everything they may have held dear not to mention the legal woes of 'juris prudence' ... thus TIME ENSURES us all the 'just' we deserve and make no mistake no-one gets away with anything ... but rightly speaking it is not up to us to serve justice ... those who decided to leave the church made the wrong decision ... it is not the pastor or the bishop or the deacon or Rev. Mother or senior sister the we worship .. it is CHRIST & by abandoning the place of worship to save face or because "they're not whom you thought they were" simply testifies to your own mis-guided sense of what being a real CHRISTIAN WAS & IS ALL ABOUT . . . being a loyal member of your church testifies to ones sense of loyal membership , not jumping on board with the majority but with haste coming to the rescue of your palce of worship with those you have worshiped with . . . its easy to run and be done with it all . . . it takes guts and a steady belief in "GODs will be done" ... So STAND UP FOR YOUR CHURCH ... don't run out at a time when it so very very NEEDS you the MOST ... I BELIEVE GOD HAS A SPECIAL BLESSING IN-STORE for those that will watch , pray , believe he will 'make a way out of no-way' return your church to the beacon of hope it once was so that the sinner man may again seek refuge and be granted the LORDS forgiveness & be saved ... This man had used money that beongs i the name of God and used it for entertainment that should been used.. The Words in the Bible should be used for support,self-decipline,reproving,ect..It sems that you agree caused of his imperfection that people should support him .. Bishop you should have stepped down along time ago when the allegations came out. You need to do some soul searching with God and never return to the pulpit ever.
Did it ever occur to you that your precious bishop is an atheist? He doesn't believe in God, but he believes foolish people will give him their paychecks because they are buying a stairway to heaven with that money, and he is buying jewelry with it.

And what's humorous about this, is that everyone freaks out about THIS GUY because he's a popular televangelist, but every single person in anykind of authoritative position at a Church, is most likely just as guilty for equal or lesser sin. Now when I say "equal or lesser" sin, I'm saying that since (in God's eyes) all sin is equal, every single Pastor, Televangelist or whatever, is equally condemnable for their sin. People can't seem to take the Bible literally....and the reason being, because the Bible is so confusing, and contradictory, that if you took the Bible literally, Christianity wouldn't make sense. And guess what?! Christians trying to make sense of the Bible wind up getting angry, and lashing out at people, when they don't even realize that based on their belief system, they're just as hell-bound as the next guy.
This dude is not going to be judged by God, he's already being judged by people of the same faith. And of course you people say, "He is a false prophet!" "He speaks untruths!" "He is a sinner!".....Truth of the matter is, anyone that claims to know what happens when you die, is a false prophet. Don't overlook the part about forgiveness of sins in the Bible. Preeeeeeeetty big point in the new testament. Trust me u can't miss it if you read it for yourself. And what Christian is lashing out? CNN surely would've covered that story!
So-called "Bishop" Long's demise is simply a fulfillment of scriptural prophecy. He is a blind leader who is leading blind followers (Matthew Chapter 15, Verse 14). "Bishop" Long is teaching false doctrine (Matthew Chapter 15, Verse 9; Galatians Chapter 1, Verses 6-9) and supporting an organization that is built upon a man's foundation and not the Lord's (Ephesians Chapter 1, Verse 22; Ephesians Chapter 2, Verses 20-21; Hebrews Chapter 3, Verse 4).
"Bishop" Long is serving his own interests and NOT the True and Living God (Romans Chapter 16, Verse 18). He is another shameful example of self-promotion whose end will be destruction (Phillipians Chapter 3, Verse 19).
There is no god.
Pockets, don't generalize God after one man's mistake. Did you say everyone were liars after the first time you were lied too?
