In outrage over Lowe's controversy, moderation is drowned outBy Dan Merica, CNN Washington (CNN) – Lowe's knows that it opened Pandora's box when the company "managed to step into a hotly contested debate" by pulling its advertising from the reality TV show "All-American Muslim." "Lowe's has received a significant amount of communication on this program, from every perspective possible," it said in a statement. "Individuals and groups have strong political and societal views on this topic, and this program became a lightning rod for many of those views." But "communication to the company" was far from the start of it. Almost anyone with an opinion, from bloggers to commentators and Twitters users, aired diverging views. And though the viewpoints getting the most coverage were from those with the biggest platforms, there is growing sentiment online that what Lowe's did was wrong but allowable. Famed Hasidic reggae star sheds the Hasid part?By Jessica Ravitz, CNN (CNN) - Think Matisyahu, and there’s an image: A man in a long beard, sidelocks and a skullcap – an obviously and deeply religious man who became a music sensation, blending reggae and hip hop with the most traditional of Jewish themes. But hear that record scratching to a stop? The man behind the music issued a big statement Tuesday, when he blasted over Twitter the image of who he is now, thanks to a razor. Bush aide finds forgiveness and a second careerBy Eric Marrapodi, CNN Belief Blog Co-Editor Washington (CNN)– Tim Goeglein never expected to see the president again, let alone get called into the Oval Office, because he committed the ultimate Washington sin - he betrayed the boss. "The leader of the free world has lots of people to see, he has lots of things to do," Goeglein said, sitting in his office at Focus on the Family, where he is now vice president of external relations. "The thing that leaders of the free world don't often do, probably, is ask aides who have just embarrassed them and brought shame upon the White House, they don't typically invite them to the Oval Office," he said. But that Goeglein said is exactly what then-President George W. Bush did. Gingrich promises 'personal fidelity' in pledgeBy Kevin Liptak, CNN (CNN) – Newt Gingrich stepped up his efforts to appeal to evangelical Christian voters in Iowa Monday by promising in writing to "defend and strengthen the family." Gingrich, who has been married three times, specifically said he would "uphold the institution of marriage through personal fidelity to my spouse and respect for the marital bonds of others." Gingrich made the pledge to The Family Leader, a socially conservative group based in Iowa. The organization has its own Marriage Pledge that other 2012 White House hopefuls have signed, including Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Minnesota Rep. It was the first chance Sandusky's alleged victims could begin to publicly tell their stories. Walkway to sensitive religious sites in Jerusalem is closedBy Michal Zippori and Kevin Flower, CNN Jerusalem (CNN)–A pedestrian walkway that leads to a religious site sacred both to Jews and Muslims has been closed under an order from the Jerusalem municipality, according to city officials. The wooden ramp that leads to the Mughrabi gate serves as the sole entrance for Jews and foreign tourists to enter the plaza known as the Temple Mount to Jews and the Noble Sanctuary to Muslims. Last week the Jerusalem city engineer Shlomo Eshkol issued a closure order for the ramp, declaring that it is not structurally sound and poses a threat to public security. In a letter addressed to the foundation that oversees the adjacent Western Wall, Eshkol wrote, "There exists immediate danger to the users, to the public and to the property nearby, due to the flammability and potential collapsing." The walkway was closed Sunday.
