Fox apologizes to Jews for poll on who murdered Jesus

By Dan Gilgoff, CNN.com Religion Editor

(CNN) - Fox Latin America has pulled and apologized for an online poll that asked who was responsible for Jesus’ death and included Jews as a possible response.

The poll had been posted on a Facebook page for National Geographic Cable TV in Latin America as part of a promotional effort for a Christmas special on the channel, according to the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Jewish group.

The National Geographic Channel in Latin America is a member of Fox International Channels, part of News Corp.

“Christmas Special is coming to Nat Geo… Who do you think responsible for the death of Jesus?” the Spanish-language poll asked, according to the Wiesenthal Center.

The multiple-choice responses were “Pontius Pilate; The Jewish People; the High Priests.”

On Wednesday, the Wiesenthal Center announced that the National Geographic Channel in Latin America had removed the poll and apologized for it.

"We sincerely apologize for the publication of a poll on our website that might have unintentionally given place to interpretations, opinions or expressions of intolerance that might affect the Jewish community," Fox Latin America’s vice president for corporate communications and PR said in a statement.

“This would contradict the mission and spirit of National Geographic worldwide, which focuses on education for diversity through shows questioning our world,” said the vice president, Guadalupe Lucero.

"We have also taken appropriate measures to prevent such incidents in the future,” he said.

Apparently, Fox Latin America has never read John 10:18; Jesus covered this already. "No man takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of My Father." Jesus willingly lay His life down, no man took it from Him.

To my Jewish friends: Scripture says that Jesus is the GLORY OF THE JEWS. Jesus is your glory. He was proof to the world that the JEWS HAVE THE RIGHT GOD, the Jews worship the ONE AND ONLY TRUE GOD!

They do not believe in Jesus. Don't you get it? And frankly, Jews have a right not to believe if they do not want to.

This has nothing to do with Fox News, but once again facts mean nothing to a hate filled being who can't control their hate for even a moment to be rational, otherwise known as a Democrat.

If a fox ran across the road and it made the Democrat drive off the road, that lib would think it is justified in suing Murdoch and Alies for their injuries, explains why they still defend Dan Rather and Microsoft fonts being around in 1973, doesn't it?

It is time for tort law to charge journalists for malpractice! Bias and inaccuracy should be a crime unless the media outlet declares itself a factless tabloid! 60 Minutes would be required to state that it is biased and does not report accurately every 10 minutes during the show, else they can be sued by all consumers for $100K!

For those of us who see the bible as a step in our esoteric learning. The question is mute. Jesus was destined to die per the creators overall plan to save mankind, and set a light for man to strive for (the perfection inherent in Jesus). These polls are produced, written and answered by those people unaware of the creators plan, or perhaps to spark contraversy, but again, those who would do such a thing, are typically unenlightened. so same thing.

That's pretty much it. The question is moot, it's ignorant and even frivolous. I was always taught, and have in turn taught, that there was no such thing as a stupid question. I stand corrected.

According to the New Testement, when Pilate found Jesus not guilty and wanted to release him, Jews insisted he'd be killed and when he said his blood would be on their hands, they replied Jesus's blood was on their and their children's hands.

OK, but your posting takes no note of the horrible pogroms that have been directed at Jews over hundreds of years, often with the expressed justification that they were "responsible" for the death of Christ. You seem to be naive about historical context of this issue. Context matters.

Yes and all of that malarkey was written nearly 100 YEARS after the fact and by NO ONE that was actually there!! REAL Jews were HOME observing the Passover. Available people were ALL rabble rousers looking for a fight or crucifxion or anything for sport and entertainment. PLEASE spare me the quotes. They were written by people who already had an axe to grind against the Jews.

God sent His Son to die for us. The Jews had him killed for various reasons but it was God's plan for them to do this. The Romans carried out the actual killing. None of it would be necessary except that we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. The good news is that Jesus didn't stay dead! He didn't stay in the ground. Today He intercedes for believers at the right hand of God. To all who believe in Him and trust in the saving power of His blood He gives the right to become children of God.

Christians believe Jesus didn't die, or more accurately, didn't stay dead. So asking who killed him misses the point.

If you want to know who crucified Jesus, the answer is pretty clear. At that time, claiming to be the son of God was a capitol offense. Jesus signed his own death sentence.

    December 30, 2011 at 7:13 pm |
    • JAWZ

Actually, the Roman Government crucified Jesus and therefore are responsible for his death/execution. Curcifiction was a fairly common form of capital punishment at the time. The Romans felt he was a threat to their rule in historically Jewish areas. Jewish leadership, the Pharisees specifically, also felt he was a threat so they conspired with the Romans to set him up. Since he was a Jew the Roman Prefect Pontius Pilate, offered the Jewish citizens the opportunity to spare him and they refused.

Very good answer. Yet undeniable that he WAS rejected by the majority HIS OWN people of his time which took him to the Romans to have him crucified and they've said (Matthew 27:25) "All the people answered, "Let his blood be on us and on our children!". Clearly they are putting themselves as wanting his death and hence they are 100% guilty as the Romans would've never killed Jesus without the Jews' insistence. In fact Pontius Pilate tried to find fault in Jesus but couldn't and said so to the Jews, yet they still yelled for his death. This is undeniable, the Jews killed Jesus. PERIOD.

      December 30, 2011 at 8:43 pm |
    • Chad

mark "This is undeniable, the Jews killed Jesus. PERIOD."

      => consider three things:
      1) Romans actually crucified Jesus
      2) Without the benefit of the Holy Spirit, you and I would have reacted to Jesus the same way many of the Jews of that day did – with rejection. "“Who do you say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven"
      Matthew 16
      God alone reveals
      3) Ultimately you and I necessitated the death of Jesus Christ, right?

saying things like the "Jews killed Jesus" leads only to anti-semitism. Stay away from it.
