Fox apologizes to Jews for poll on who murdered Jesus

By Dan Gilgoff, CNN.com Religion Editor

(CNN) - Fox Latin America has pulled and apologized for an online poll that asked who was responsible for Jesus’ death and included Jews as a possible response.

The poll had been posted on a Facebook page for National Geographic Cable TV in Latin America as part of a promotional effort for a Christmas special on the channel, according to the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Jewish group.

The National Geographic Channel in Latin America is a member of Fox International Channels, part of News Corp.

“Christmas Special is coming to Nat Geo… Who do you think responsible for the death of Jesus?” the Spanish-language poll asked, according to the Wiesenthal Center.

The multiple-choice responses were “Pontius Pilate; The Jewish People; the High Priests.”

On Wednesday, the Wiesenthal Center announced that the National Geographic Channel in Latin America had removed the poll and apologized for it.

"We sincerely apologize for the publication of a poll on our website that might have unintentionally given place to interpretations, opinions or expressions of intolerance that might affect the Jewish community," Fox Latin America’s vice president for corporate communications and PR said in a statement.

“This would contradict the mission and spirit of National Geographic worldwide, which focuses on education for diversity through shows questioning our world,” said the vice president, Guadalupe Lucero.

"We have also taken appropriate measures to prevent such incidents in the future,” he said.

Jews should just convert to Christianity and be done with their cr*p religion and faith. Inside their heart they know Jesus is the messiah, but are afraid to admitt it because of their families reaction, fight etc. God Bless Messianic Jews!

The Apostles' Creed 2011: (updated by yours truly and based on the studies of historians and theologians of the past 200 years)

Should I believe in a god whose existence cannot be proven
and said god if he/she/it exists resides in an unproven,
human-created, spirit state of bliss called heaven??

I believe there was a 1st century CE, Jewish, simple,
preacher-man who was conceived by a Jewish carpenter
named Joseph living in Nazareth and born of a young Jewish
girl named Mary. (Some say he was a mamzer.)

Jesus was summarily crucified for being a temple rabble-rouser by
the Roman troops in Jerusalem serving under Pontius Pilate,

He was buried in an unmarked grave and still lies
a-mouldering in the ground somewhere outside of

Said Jesus' story was embellished and "mythicized" by
many semi-fiction writers. A descent into Hell, a bodily resurrection
and ascension stories were promulgated to compete with the
Caesar myths. Said stories were so popular that they
grew into a religion known today as Catholicism/Christianity
and featuring dark-age, daily wine to blood and bread to body rituals
called the eucharistic sacrifice of the non-atoning Jesus.

    • Timmy never really read the Bible

Yeshua bar Josef, one of many illiterate itinerant preachers, was executed by a "cabal" of authorities, Romans and Jews, because he was a threat to the economic stability of a city based entirely on the temple economy,....(remember the incident the week before his arrest where he went into the temple grounds and overturned the money changers tables)....fees for the priests, fees for the offerings, fees for ritual bathing, fees to stay overnight, fees for this, fees for that, festval fees, travel fees, ritual food fees, etc, etc, ...and ALL had to be changed into Hebrew currency from the prevailing Roman currency of the occupiers, (or it was considered "unclean"). The gospels tell of the authorities looking for him, and he and his followers trying to evade them. All the rest is religious 'slap-on" to the very banal events of history.

Remember the "Roman" thing came only few decades ago. For 1950 years, the entire world knew that Jews were responsible for Jesus' death. STOP changing history!!

Evidently the Jewish people have no trouble believing that Jesus did live, they just don't accept Him as the Messiah, neither do the Muslims. They both are willing to accept Jesus as a good man, and perhaps even a prophet, however they are not willing to accept responsibility for the death of Jesus. I think it would be an interesting question: Who do the Jews believe killed Jesus. The real truth of the matter is: All sinners are responsible for the death of Christ. Christ died for all mankind, not just the Jews.

Our sins killed Jesus. And per the catechism of the catholic church there has never been a person past, present or future who Jesus did not suffer and die for.

. JC's family and friends had it right 2000 years ago ( Mark 3: 21 "And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.")

Said passage is one of the few judged to be authentic by most contemporary NT scholars. e.g. See Professor Ludemann's conclusion in his book, Jesus After 2000 Years, p. 24 and p. 694

Actually, Jesus was a bit "touched". After all he thought he spoke to Satan, thought he changed water into wine, thought he raised Lazarus from the dead etc. In today's world, said Jesus would be declared legally insane.

Or did P, M, M, L and J simply make him into a first century magic-man via their epistles and gospels of semi-fiction? Most contemporary NT experts after thorough analyses of all the scriptures go with the latter magic-man conclusion with J's gospel being mostly fiction.

Obviously, today's followers of Paul et al's "magic-man" are also a bit on the odd side believing in all the Christian mumbo jumbo about bodies resurrecting, and exorcisms, and miracles, and "magic-man atonement, and infallible, old, European/Utah white men, and 24/7 body/blood sacrifices followed by consumption of said sacrifices. Yummy!!!!

So why do we really care what a first century CE, illiterate, long-dead, preacher man would do or say?

And he definitely did not die for anyone's sins, before, then or now!!!

Reality(non-), it was not what He thought, it was what eye witnesses reported, that He did. It is amazing that those witnesses were willing to die for what you call a lie.

Or be the salvation of us all. Well, most all of us. There are those, of course, who will refuse a life preserver because of the one who throws it to them. No amount of sugar can cover the bitter taste of a poorly presented truth by a blatant hypocrite, who hates you.

I don't get what the problem is. The poll is based on Christian history through the bible. The Romans executed Jesus at the behest of the Jewish people, who feared him. I mean are they going to demand people burn their bibles now? I thought free speech was protected in this country, or are we heading the same way as France?

Perhaps people might take you slightly more seriously if you knew how to spell "hypocrisy."
      But I doubt it.

    • wingnut

why not? The bible was chnaged to cast the Jews in the worst light possible. Look at the progresssion of the gosples Jesus was arrested and tried by the romans, then jesus was arrested and tried by the romans with a small contingent of jews, then jesus was arrested by the romans tried by the jews and turned over to the romans for punishment, then jesus was arrested tried by the jews, turned over to the romans who felt bad for the guy and wanted to grant him a reprive so they allowed him to be pardoned if the jews picked him...

A simple look at how he was exexuted would tell you who was soley responsible. If it was the jews we would have rocks sitting on alters and not crosses, however since the romans killed him we have the very familiar cross.

    GOD killed Jesus!
This is BASIC Christian Theology 101!!!
He took our place! He became our transgression against the pure and holy!
This is sad. Just shows that christianity is rarer than what most think
