Boston archbishop: 'Sorrow' over child sex abuse scandal is still deep

By Chris Boyette, CNN

(CNN) - Ten years after public recognition of serious sexual abuse at the hands of Roman Catholic priests within the Archdiocese of Boston, Cardinal Sean P. O'Malley, the archbishop, issued a letter and his reflections on the "problem with a history far deeper than any ... had imagined, that had been wreaking havoc along its course."

On Wednesday O'Malley released a document contemplating the abuse crisis over the past decade.

"The life of the Church in the Archdiocese of Boston (and throughout the world) was forever changed by the revelations of clergy sexual abuse that dominated the news in January of 2002," it began, "As an Archdiocese, as a Church, we can never cease to make clear the depth of our sorrow and to beg forgiveness from those who were so grievously harmed," it went on.

The Archdiocese released O'Malley's reflections two days before the 10-year anniversary of the first Boston Globe articles that broke the story in 2002, exposing decades of sexual abuse by Catholic priests, as well as bringing to light a veil of silence within the Church, implicating Church officials in covering up the abuse by shuffling pedophile priests around the diocese.

"Survivors have made clear that the Church must do everything possible to make sure that what happened to them never happens again," O'Malley wrote, "On behalf of the entire Church, I pledge our vigilance as we continue to help those that had been harmed."

O'Malley said his reflections were not to be interpreted as "a final word, or the closing of a chapter," but rather an expression of progress made so far, and a guide for what he said would be the Church's continued diligence in doing everything possible to prevent such abuses in the future.

"There will never be a time to presume that the crisis is over or behind us," said O'Malley.

The only thing the church leaders are sorry for is that they were caught. Everyone of them that participated needs to be tried and if found guilty , punished according to the laws of the lands where they committed their crimes.

    Ho my God!

I support abortion and a woman's right to choose to use abortion as a sweet form of birth control on a regular basis. I support gay marriage.

god does not exist. There is no proof that one does, and until the day comes when the giant Space Cop in the sky cartwheels down from the heavens like Chris Farley naked, then I'm not going to waste my time believing in that stupidity.

If people want to kill puppies, that's their choice.

AND NOW, SOME BIBLE SCRIP-CHORES TO AMEN FOR!

    10. 2 Kings 2:23-24
    NKJV
Then he went up from there to Bethel; and as he was going up the road, some youths came from the city and mocked him, and said to him, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!” So he turned around and looked at them, and pronounced a curse on them in the name of the LORD. And two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths.

    9. Mark 14:51-52
    KJV
And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him: And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.

    8. Deuteronomy 23:1
    KJV
He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.

    7. Genesis 38:8-10
    NASB
Then Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife, and perform your duty as a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother.” Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother’s wife, he wasted his seed on the ground in order not to give offspring to his brother. But what he did was displeasing in the sight of the LORD; so He took his life also.

    2. Judges 3:21-22
    ESV
And Ehud reached with his left hand, took the sword from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly. And the hilt also went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade, for he did not pull the sword out of his belly; and the dung came out.

For Thomas Aquinas, following the thinking of Aristotle, anger is a necessary element of the virtue of fortltude: "fortltude isn't a matter of just putting up with evil, or of enduring sorrow, but includes actively resisting evil, bravery in the struggle, and anger at the evil which has led to sorrow (over some evil occurence). Summa Theologica, IIa-IIae, Q. 123, Art. 10.
St. Thomas affirmed that “wrath is a necessary and positive part of human nature,” and “the lack of wrath against injustice is a deficiency.”

Thus I call out with righteous anger against the Catholic Church, that Satanic nest of vipers, and demand that all countries and all law enforcement people descend upon the Vatican, seize every one of those criminals and raze the buildings down to bedrock!!!
And in every country seize all the holdings of the Catholic Church, every criminal, every last bit of criminal evidence, and obliterate the Catholic Church from all world societies!
There is nothing to stop the world from seeking justice but the corruption that rules so many people.
Let us hang these criminals by the neck until dead, or other such execution, wherever they are to be found and judged guilty!

It's time for everyone to call for the death penalty for child molestation and those who hide them from justice!!!

The "vomit-inducing" ped-ophilia and coverup will simply hasten the decline of all religions as they finally go extinct from their own absurdity.. It is time to replace all religions with a few rules like "Do No Harm" and convert all houses of "worthless worship" to recreation facilities and parks.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Saw this on another blog:

From today's Philadelphia Inquirer's report on Cardinal Bevilacqua's testimony to a grand jury investigating the pedophilia coverup in the Philadelphia Archdiocese during the Cardinal's tenure:

"Bevilacqua insisted he needed "evidence in order to ask someone to step down."

And not just any evidence. Anonymous reports, Bevilacqua said, had "no value at all to me."

"Secondhand information," he added, lacked credibility.

That puzzled the jurors, who then asked Bevilacqua if he believed in the Gospels.

    "Yes," assured the cardinal.

"But," Spade pressed, "it's the jurors' understanding that the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were written many years after the actual events," by those not present at the time.

    "Yes," Bevilacqua agreed.

So, using the cleric's own logic, wouldn't that make the Gospels "secondhand information"?

    And then there is this:

"Without exception, every one of the 188 dioceses in the American Catholic Church has faced or is facing claims of child se-x abuse. Victims' organizations and others say the total payout has climbed past $1 billion, with another half-billion pending."

STEP AWAY FROM THE LOGIC, PAL: If you point out hypocrisy and inconsistency then surely Christianity as well as many other religions would simply cease to exist. In fact, the very existence of multiple religions is in and of itself a nullification of monotheistic faith: If the nasty, violent, vengeful Old Testament God was quick to destroy cities whose inhabitants didn't worship Him just-so, then why did HE allow entire civilizations to flourish for thousands of years with vastly different belief systems?

Face it, attacking a bishop or cardinal with logic is like picking on a cripple. Yes it can be amusing but it's really kinda sad in the end...

As stated above the Cardinal expressed his sorrow for the abuse that has taken place, is the sorrow of the world which worketh death, while Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation (2 Cor. 7:10). That is the same as the Pope praying for peace at Christmas and Easter time but there never is any (Matthew 15:9; 18:20), as they don’t know or are able to understand that even Christ did not pray for this world (John 17:9; 1 John 5:19).

Unfortunately mankind prefers to follow after the spirit of darkness over light and this has now become their condemnation (John 3:19).

Our Ministry, which is in Christ and according to the Spirit of truth (John 14:17), has reached out to CNN and key contacts for more than two years but they continue to spread lies and falsehood rather than a message of truth. Recently they even arranged to have all of our e-mails blocked to ensure we are no longer able to contact the writers and explain their deceptive articles. The purpose of our postings is to keep straight the way of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

For a better understanding of the issues that the Boston Archdiocese is facing we invite you to read the item ‘Boston Diocese names 250 priests’ listed as the second item on the Current Events page of our website http://www.aworlddeceived.ca

We also do encourage you to read the articles ‘Boston University ~ School of Theology and Stonehill College’, ‘The Mystery Babylon’ and ‘Popes and the Princes of This World’.

Seek, and ye will find (Matthew 7:7).

Not to burn your parade to ashes, but the bible is not a valid source of information on any subject except for the subject of discrediting itself. If you're going to post scripture, you should also pay close attention to the scriptures that show how much your god hates people, likes to murder them, allows women to be assaulted, likes slavery and bashing babies against rocks.

Your ministry is shallow and empty. I find it genuinely repulsive and offensive that people believe in the bible to begin with and try to spread their belief. If you actually knew what was in your bible, you'd stop believing in it. But as all christians do, you ignore the dark scripture. You ignore the lies, the promises that were never followed through and all of the contradictions. There is a single scripture that completely voids christianity altogether, and I am willing to bet my life you don't even know it exists. The thing that makes this fact so funny is that this scripture is a quote from jesus. He promised to do something for the followers living during his time on earth, but never bothered with it. Even better, christians base their entire faith on this promise, not realizing that they believe in a completely different scripture from the bible which was added later on to cover up this false promise. It's been posted a few times, but I'm not going to bother with it since you'd just ignore it anyway. You christians are good at ignoring what's right in front of you because deep down you know it will destroy your empty faith.

This leads me to another point. I've found that the reason why christians like to post scripture so often is because it's a means of justifying faith. It's the only way you can think of justifying a belief in something deep in your bowels you know is utter garbage. My favorite thing to watch is a christian drowning in its own stupidity when trying to prove the existence of "god" by using the bible as evidence.

Religious people are not the brightest bunch.

The Phist, if you have issues with Jesus' truth in scriptures, you own it and need to work on elevating yourself to His spiritual wisdom that will save your soul. The Bible is perfect in His wisdom. Man (meaning women too) are not. If you refuse or don't believe His truth. It's simple. Enjoy life here, reject and ignore His truth and you'll find there will be NO eternity for you. Free will, remember?

      The Phist

The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them. because they are spiritually discerned (1 Cor. 2:14).

Our message of repentance is the same message as it was preached by Christ and the apostles.

To repent means to turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan (whose spirit you are of) unto God (Acts 26:18). Without the Baptism of Repentance (Mark 1:4) you will remain spiritually blind like the Archbishop of Boston.

Religion dehumanizes people. It tells you that you aren't allowed to do things that are natural. What happens when you dehumanize people? Take a look in prisons and the catholic corporation for answers.

Both prisoners and catholic priests, bishops or whatever all end up where they are by choice. Once in prison, the choice to be there is gone obviously, but these child predators in the church have a choice to not be part of a festering organization of filth. I bet if a lot of these guys avoided the church altogether and lived normal lives, they wouldn't resort to going after kids. Religion is stupid. Anyone with common sense knows that the creation myth is a farce as well as the rest of the fables following. But if these idiots are going to continue believing in it, then that's on them. Let them at least be human, get married, have families, etc. I bet if they did, the problems they create would decline. How much? Who knows. But one less taint traumatizing children is a win in my book.

Repent. Ask Jesus for forgiveness for sins that you knew you were committing and sins that you had no idea was a sin. Then sin no more. He will wipe your slate clean until you sin again. Then you need to repeat the above of asking for forgiveness etc. If you don't (free will that He gave all of us), then don't expect to go through eternity. He will grant your wishes of being blotted out. No one will remember you. Puff!

ANY person, priest or otherwise, who has been fairly tried and found guilty of child molestation should be sent to prison for life. It is common sense. No sorrow is needed, just action. Put the sc.um bags away for life. End of story. I have said this before so roll your eyes if you want, but I was molested at age 11, not by a priest by be a person of authority and in close proximity to young boys. The church has covered up these activities for many years, moving priests around and trying to "rehabilitate" them (aka: hide them). The RCC CONDONES child abuse and has proven this by their actions. You know this just as well as I do. Why do you hide from it?
Anyone who knows about the abuse is responsible, not just the abusers.
There are many examples of this; Penn State is the most topical at the moment.
If it happens under your watch, it is your fault. The Popes have failed. The RCC has failed.

@Swine Are you seriously defending that position? when people of faith and the organizations that represent the faith itself tries to coverup and hide the atrocities committed by its members within its own halls, it is fair to attack the faith itself. And when the same problem crops up at independent locations all over where the only common factor is their faith, it is faith itself that is the problem..

@HeavenSent, there is a difference between having a "difference of opinion" and being "downright spiteful/hateful" to those who disagree with you.

You, are the most vile person to say such things to a victim of a hideous atrocity in the hands of one whom the children were supposed to trust. To say that it is "crying for attention" and "Karma" is the most disgusting representation of what you carry in your heart.. what did you think a 11 year old would know about karma and what would the kid have done to deserve it?

It is analogous to saying the African American people were "crying for attention" during the 60s civil rights movement.

Reading a book and spewing out a few verses once in a while is not going to make you a good person. It needs a good heart that you do not seem to have. Change your name to HellBound, for that is what is going to happen to you for what you said.

"Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven."

Well dam girl then you're all going to burn in hell. Every christian I know calls the male in the house father.

OhPlz, scriptures is speaking of our spiritual father, not anyone's biological father.

Fertilization occurs when an egg and sperm combine to create an embryo. Both a male and female are required for the union. You see, the woman has the egg and the man has the sperm. In Vitro fertilization was not around at the time of the conception of Jesus, so either God took human form and was in fact the baby-daddy, Joe slipped Mary a roofie, or Mary fornicated with a goat herder. Just wanted to clear that up for you.

The Central Scutinizer, you posted "HeavenSent, Fertilization occurs when an egg and sperm combine to create an embryo. Answer: Again, science and Jesus' truth agree in perfect harmony that a male and female are required for the union. Notice it is not sperm + sperm nor egg(s) + egg(s).

I've been writing this truth for a year now, glad you caught on Central.

      Amen.

Gosh, HS, did you think gays were sterile? Didn't you know they could reproduce?

You look dumber every time you post.

Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son you babbled,

"Gosh, HS, did you think gays were sterile? Didn't you know they could reproduce?

You look dumber every time you post."

So, what you're saying is that sperm + sperm = baby? Absolutely genius of you. No, really. I'm the one that looks dumb here., right?

      Leviticus 20:13

      Amen.

Yup. You do. If you didn't, you would have no need to post any sort of refutation.

Do post proof that gays can't reproduce, sweetcheeks. Thanks in advance.

    • Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son

Hey, HS, how do you feel about couples who want children and resort to IVF?

      Are they blasphemers?

      January 5, 2012 at 9:56 pm |

      Satan will hold them.

Methinks HS never had s3x. Or at least it never had children that lived. Didn't it ever figure out that lesbians could conceive through artificial insemination? Or that gay men could easily have a child with a woman willing to carry a child for them?

      What a complete fool.

Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son, keeps writing to himself using my handle “Gosh, HS, did you think gays were sterile? Didn't you know they could reproduce?

You look dumber every time you post."

Then he writes “Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son you babbled,

"Gosh, HS, did you think gays were sterile? Didn't you know they could reproduce?

You look dumber every time you post."

So, what you're saying is that sperm + sperm = baby? Absolutely genius of you. No, really. I'm the one that looks dumb here., right?

      Leviticus 20:13

Again, Tommie, Tom, stealing my handle writes to himself “Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son

Yup. You do. If you didn't, you would have no need to post any sort of refutation.

Do post proof that gays can't reproduce, sweetcheeks. Thanks in advance.”

and again" Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son

Hey, HS, how do you feel about couples who want children and resort to IVF?

      Are they blasphemers?"

While still pretending to be me “HeavenSent

      Satan will hold them.

      Amen."

And, still to get his ridiculous thoughts across “Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son

Methinks HS never had s3x. Or at least it never had children that lived. Didn't it ever figure out that lesbians could conceive through artificial insemination? Or that gay men could easily have a child with a woman willing to carry a child for them?

Again, he pretends to be me “Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son

Oh, will he? Where? In his scrotum?”

Again with his phony verbage “HeavenSent

How tall are you and how much do you weigh?"

More phony junk from Tommie, Tom, pretending to be me “HeavenSent

Hurry up and answer. My friends and I have wagered a bet of hefty monetary proportions on your answer.

Naturally, I know you won't answer, or you'll lie. But hurry up anyway."

Tommie, Toms husband is out again tonight as he wrote “Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son

Poor little troll. What a shame about that tumor”.
