What happens when candidates called by God drop out?

By Stephen Walsh, CNN

On Wednesday, blogger and sitcom writer Kelly Oxford sent a tweet about the Republican race for the presidency that got a lot of folks asking: Is this God’s idea of a joke?

Oxford, whose Twitter feed was named by TIME magazine one of the 140 best of 2011, wrote, “Cain, Perry, Bachmann all claimed God told them to run for President, and all are out of the race. God is hilarious.”

It’s been reported that Herman Cain, Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum have all suggested that God called on them to enter the presidential race.

But here we are: Cain’s out. Bachmann’s out.

After returning to Texas to “reassess” his campaign, Perry announced he’s not throwing in the towel. Judging by his poor showing in the Iowa caucuses and the debates so far, however, many political experts think it’s just a matter of time.

The only one with supposed divine guidance who’s still in the race is Santorum.

So what gives? Did the candidates misread God’s supposed message? Does the defeat of a divinely-inspired candidate necessarily contradict a message from God?

We want to hear form you. What do you think?

Simple. God told them to run, he didn't say they would win.

I think in our human form we all strive to hear God despite our limited flesh. Some are conscious of it and some may not be as aware. Yet through out times history many people have claimed to hear God or hide behind God or even Allah to justify an action that promotes hate or racism. Yet to discern who has had a moment of urging from God as they believe is a growing experience for some. Who knows maybe they all were to be in not saying they would win but for a reason that goes beyond our natural sense? I do know this we are in a changing of time as we know and as we who want to know God more have to shake off the thought that we know and understand it all.

God might have called them to run for office, but not win the election. Who are we to judge what He might be teaching them or doing through them.

Or maybe they just used God's name. Perhaps God said nothing to them, but they merely claimed he did......

Mich, if I had told them to run but not told them what to expect, well, that seems kinda mean don't it? Although I am gonna burn most of y'all in hell later anyway, so I s'pose I am pretty mean. But then I'm god so I don't have t'care what y'all think of me.

Outstanding response Michelle! This blogger offers just another ordinary albeit entertaining blog. They are simply vomiting out the same anti Christian drool from our increasingly irrelevant left wing media. Just another meaningless Bill Maher wannabe. BTW WHO SAYS GOD IS EVEN REMOTELY INTERESTED IN AMERICAN POLITICS! How simple and arrogant we are.

That pesky Satan keeps messin with the connections. Ya know, I slap that guy down a lot but no matter how often he gets rejected, he keeps comin back for more punishment. Kinda like Ron Paul that way. Seems to like it.

an example of what you get when you hear the greed and power mongering in your heart and think it's a message from God when it's actually someone else talking.

According to God, Americans deserve with regard to 1) the economy, 2) leadership, 3) acts of aggression, 4) the environment, 5) the health system.... etc. Going forward, as always, the people will get what they deserve. I guess America deserved Obamacare, I guess America deserved the Gulf Oil Spill, I guess America deserves a nuclear Iran, I guess America deserves Obama for President. There is no hope for the Republicans.

Why are you folkis being so critical? The Devil tol Obama to run. The only reason Barack Hussein didn't back out is the Devil told him he would withhold his 72 virgins and send him to Heaven as punishment if he did!

Let's see. Much of the rest of the world is in some form of turmoil, political, economic, etc. Is it possible that god is spending too much of his time talking to American politicians?

This is such a loaded question. Did these candidates think they had a conversation with "God" and he/she told them, "Hey! You should run for president!" That would be crazy, and based on a few of these folks performances on the national stage might show that they really are. More so they probably felt a "spiritual calling" to run. That doesn't mean that they thought that they were being lead to an ultimate Presidential victory, but that it was what they should do in terms of their life path. Atheists and Agnostics will poo poo this, and that's your right, but a lot of people make decisions based partly on a "spiritual" feeling, or a "call from god". Some of those people are crazy, but most are not. Now commence the childish responses to a rational argument.

It's very clear to me that God is telling us that Mormonism is completely and 100% TRUE! Why else would Romney be on top?

Maybe (god) saw into the future asked all the idiots to run to make sure that Obama will win by default!

And the best is Pat Robertson saying God told him who was going win the Presidency, but that God told him to keep it a secret. Also a few years back, God told Pat that Obama was evil and destroying America. So if Obama wins re-election, does that mean God is not all-knowing? Or worse yet, God is ok with Obama setting waste to Bible-Country? These idiots who claim God speaks to them, do they not fear that when they meet their maker (if God exists) that they will be called out on this? I mean if I believed in an all-powerful and vengeful God, I surely wouldn't to be lying and said he talked to me when clearly he didn't.

Anyone who claims to have "spoken to god" should be disqualiified to run for public office they should be taken off the streets and locked up. Give them their meds and deprogram them from cult activities.
