My Take: Inside our scary, society-destroying family
Washington's Senate could vote as early as today on a bill that would allow gay marriage in the Evergreen State. A House vote is expected within days. If it passes both chambers, Gov. Christine Gregoire has promised to sign it into law. By Marci Weis, Special to CNN "Mama, if it doesn’t pass, will we still be able to be a family?" Those were the words of my then-7-year-old daughter on the night of the 2009 election. Over the prior months, sides had been chosen, harsh words had been hurled from all fronts, battle lines drawn. Up for vote was a referendum on whether Washington state would allow gay and lesbian couples to have several of the rights and responsibilities of legally married heterosexual couples. |

I think any words can be twisted to a particular belief. I laugh at organized religion. I believe in my own god. I worship on my own, whenever I wish. What I dont do is bash others for not believing in MY god. I dont get on my soapbox and preach to a congregation and warn them they will go to hell if they do not believe as I do. If someone wants to be gay why does it matter to you? As an openly gay woman I could care less what others think of me. I am a warm caring, loving person and if you dont like me because I am gay, IT IS YOUR LOSS. There is too much hate and sadness in this world.
I am not going to cite statistics, quote the lord, or an atheist etc....Just want to say after reading the entire article that these folks are just a loving family and we could do much worse in finding parents for these kids..Much worse!

~~The statistical studies from the nineteenth century and the three CCU studies on prayer are quite consistent with the fact that humanity is wasting a huge amount of time on a procedure that simply doesn’t work. Nonetheless, faith in prayer is so pervasive and deeply rooted, you can be sure believers will continue to devise future studies in a desperate effort to confirm their beliefs.~~
We have gone so far away as a nation from the truth that Jesus Christ alone has the power to save you. All other roads lead to Hell. the sad fact is many who die daily without becoming born again and surrendering their life to the lordship of Jesus are finding out as their souls are plunged into Hades. the place of torment and suffering. HE alone could satisy the Justice of God which required an pure innocent life for the guilty. HIs blood that was shed on calvary satisfied the Judgement. Please don't wait until it's too late. look up the life of JEsus Christ. Get the book the case for christ by lee strobel. Pray and ask God to reveal the truth to you. " we all have broken Gods commandments and the penalty is eternal death. But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ the Lord.

CNN,
What are you doing? You post a paragraph about a question asked by a 7-year old and pass it off as news worthy.
why does it bother you?
it just goes to the underlying sentiment in that CNN is more about creating / provoking reactions focusing on the involve portion more than the inform part of their mission statement.
Well, perhaps they are looking for participation.
Mike from CT,
This is the Opinion (/Belief) section - get it?
Many newspapers and other news-related sites have them.
Ahem,
No I don't get it.... Are you really trying to say that the word Belief in Belief blog means opinion. I thought it was obvious that Belief referred to beliefs of faith (and yes that includes Atheism)
"Fear not the Ori, fear the darkness that would conceal the knowledge of the universe. Believe in the truth of all things, and you too may find the path to enlightenment."
"Hallowed are we; hallowed are the Ori."

If you pray then make sure that you do it in your closet like the bible says:
Matthew 6:5-6
5And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Lesbian mommies are hot. I just whatched a show on skinamax about them. Theve got my vote.
Really? Did you not see this chick's picture?
The problem with atheists is: they want God to think the way they do; because they think they are wiser than God. If Atheists could gain complete control, the whole world would go to hell in a hand-basket–really quick! Pardon the intended pun. I believe that if it were possible to give atheists a country all their own, without any religious influence what so ever, they would destroy themselves rather quickly. They got’a remember there can be no LOVE for one another, because God is the author of love. And, by the way, it wouldn’t take a very big country.
Classic Bo idiocy: "atheists want the thing they don't believe in to think the way they do." That's some pretty fancy thinking you done there, Bo!
"they think they are wiser than the thing they don't think exists." Bo is really on a roll with his brane-thunking stuff!
"I believe that if it were possible to give atheists a country all their own, like Sweden or Denmark, without any religious influence what so ever, they would destroy themselves rather quickly, like Sweden and Denmark have, uh like they, uh, okay, they are advanced and prosperous with low rates of crime, but that is hell in a hand-basket if I ever heard it." Bo never fails to impress.
"They got’a (sic) remember there can be no LOVE for one another, because God is the author of love, even though the Bible never says anything of the sort and there are lots of atheists in love and atheists whose love of humanity leads them to significant acts of charity, but nevermind that! Bo said it, so it must be true, no matter how incredibly ridiculous it sounds!"
Praise be Bo and his amazing enlightenment! Clear as mud and half the calories!
"If Atheists could gain complete control, the whole world would go to hell in a hand-basket–really quick! "
You need a very long, serious session with some history books, my friend, specifically the history of the Catholic, and later the Protestant church in Europe. Start at about 380 CE when Christianity was made the state religion of Rome. You might also look at some recent history such as 9/11. It was not a group of atheists who flew those planes into the twin towers.
I could make this response to your very unintelligent and ill-informed remark so long it would choke CNN's server. But I will only hope that you truly try to gain some knowledge about the world, humanity, and try common sense and tolerance while you're at it.
Have a nice day.
bo: how can a person be smarter than a being which does not exist? perhaps you need to go home and get your shinebox
Bo – atheists don't believe in God. Therefor, they don't think that God should think like them. Get it? They don't believe in God at all.
Please read books other than your Bible. You're scaring us and something tells us that you've populated the earth.

Religion destroys lives.

Prayer helps delusions

All the prayers on 9/11 stopped the carnage

Only for the newbies:
"Abrahamics" believe that their god created all of us and of course that includes the g-ay members of the human race. Also, those who have studied ho-mo-se-xuality have determined that there is no choice involved therefore ga-ys are ga-y because god made them that way.
To wit:
o The Royal College of Psy-chiatrists stated in 2007:
“ Despite almost a century of psy-choanalytic and psy-chological speculation, there is no substantive evidence to support the suggestion that the nature of parenting or early childhood experiences play any role in the formation of a person’s fundamental heteros-exual or hom-ose-xual orientation. It would appear that s-exual orientation is biological in nature, determined by a complex interplay of ge-netic factors and the early ut-erine environment. Se-xual orientation is therefore not a choice.[60] "
"Garcia-Falgueras and Swaab state in the abstract of their 2010 study, "The fe-tal brain develops during the intraut-erine period in the male direction through a direct action of tes-tosterone on the developing nerve cells, or in the female direction through the absence of this hor-mone surge. In this way, our gender identi-ty (the conviction of belonging to the male or female gender) and s-exual orientation are programmed or organized into our brain structures when we are still in the womb. There is no indication that social environment after birth has an effect on gender ident–ity or s-exual orientation."[8
See also the Philadelphia Inquirer review “Gay Gene, Deconstructed”, 12/12/2011. Said review addresses the following “How do genes associated with ho-mose-xuality avoid being weeded out by Darwinian evolution?”
Of course, those gays who belong to Abrahamic religions abide by the rules of no adu-ltery or for-nication allowed.
And because of basic biology differences said monogamous ventures should always be called same-se-x unions not same-se-x marriages.

Wow, I can't believe the world hasn't grasped this. The Bible FORBIDS being gay. What is the problem here? Just because it isn't politically correct doesn't mean it's not religiously correct. My mind goes to Dietrich Bonhoeffer and his anger at politics and religion becoming one. Romans 1:26-27. You have to ask for forgiveness.
Wow, I can't believe there are those who cannot accept the fact that very, very many people aren't Christians and don't give a hoot about what Christians believe. You'd think Christians invented religion and ideals like "Be good to people" and "Don't nail people up on trees"
Romans 2:1
1)You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.
"The Bible FORBIDS being gay. What is the problem here?"
The problem is that the bible was written by fallible human beings and not god. The fact that you follow the words of humans and believe that those are gods words is laughable. Thank you for your bigotry
You ask for forgiveness, Nick, we are not bound by your arcane stories
Do you decry politics and religion becoming one? If so, why do you wish that government has it's hand in determining who gets married?
The world is not Christian, Nick.
In fact, even the US is not Christian, Nick.
Those of us who do not believe as you do are not affected by what you believe. My faith teaches that all acts of Love are divine and sacred. My Gods bless the unions of men and women, men and men, women and women.
If your God doesn't, that's your problem. Not mine.
Yo Nick guess what they added the word homosexual later to that section, it was really about male prostitution. So your bible doesn't condemn gay people.
Wow, it's hard to believe that not everyone is subject to that very old tome...that is misquoted all the time.
