After Anne Frank baptism, Mormons vow to discipline membersBy Dan Gilgoff, CNN.com Religion Editor (CNN) - Reacting to a report that well-known Holocaust victim Anne Frank had been baptized by proxy in a Mormon temple, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says it is committed to disciplining members of its church who conducted such baptisms, which violate church policy. Word of the Frank baptism came a week after the issue of Mormon posthumous proxy baptism of Jews attracted national attention. This controversy surfaced after it was reported that the dead parents of Jewish Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal had been baptized in a Mormon temple. The church apologized for that baptism, blaming it on a technical glitch in its system for submitting names for posthumous proxy baptism. “It takes a good deal of deception and manipulation to get an improper submission through the safeguards we have put in place,” LDS Church spokesman Michael Purdy said in a statement Tuesday, responding to the report about the Anne Frank baptism. Explainer: How and why do Mormons baptize the dead? Though the church regularly conducts proxy baptisms for dead, in what it calls an attempt to give everyone a chance to accept salvation through Jesus, it has a 1990s-era policy against conducting such baptisms for Holocaust victims. The policy was adopted after complaints from Jewish groups, which said it was offensive to conduct Mormon baptisms for Holocaust victims who were killed because of their Jewish faith. “The Church keeps its word and is absolutely firm in its commitment to not accept the names of Holocaust victims for proxy baptism,” said Purdy in his Tuesday statement. The church said it is “committed to taking action against individual abusers by suspending the submitter’s access privileges,” the statement continued. “We will also consider whether other Church disciplinary action should be taken.” According to Helen Radkey, a former Mormon who tracks Mormon posthumous proxy baptisms, the one for Anne Frank was conducted on Saturday in the Dominican Republic. |

If you weren't stupid enough to join the morons while alive, there's not much objecting you can do after you're dead. Hope they get slapped with multiple lawsuits over this crap.
Lawsuit? For what? They have not broken any laws.
No laws have been broken, that's true. But I'm sure that some savvy lawyer could come up with something fairly concrete if the family of a baptised deceased person wanted to bring something on this practice.
To Thomas Peterson
A quote from your response says “The mormon's are hijacking their dead and not only baptizing them but converting them to mormonism – that's what a baptism is.”
Thomas think about what you are saying. If mormons have the power to control the afterlife by performing baptisms here on earth that would mean they have great power over that domain. If they have that kind of control you had better let them do as they please.
If don’t believe they can convert spirits who have departed then why do you care how they waste their time. Please apply a little forethought before you make a statement like that.
Many folks do not seem to understand some key points about baptism for the dead. First, though the baptism may be performed for someone who has died, mormons do not automatically count that person as a member of the church. We believe that the person who has died will have the full choice to decide whether to accept the baptism or not. No one, alive or dead, is being forced to become a mormon. If a person who has died wished to accept the baptism, then it would be entirely their own choice. We are simply giving them that choice, whereas if the proxy baptism had not been performed, they would not have that choice.
We believe that baptism is essential to salvation, and as not everyone has had that opportunity to be baptized while alive, we are providing the opportunity for those who may not have had the opportunity to accept it. If, as many of you are inclined to think, that mormonsim is a false religion, then the baptism will have no effect in the afterlife anyways, so no harm is done. Again, let me stress that we are not counting people who are baptised for the dead as members of our church. If, however, we are correct in our beliefs, then by doing baptisms for the dead we are providing the deceased with a very important opportunity.
You might not understand that non-Mormons do not believe in your religion and are OFFENDED by your beliefs and your practices of trying to Mormanize the dead, particularly those who were killed for not being Christian such as Anne Frank. What seems kind to you is extremely offensive to the rest of us.
Beth is right on, Mike. Wanting to bring people into salvation is great.... but to do it after someone is dead and NOT already a part of your belief is just offensive. I was baptised as a child. I still believe. I don't want to be re-baptised by a Mormon after I'm gone! This practice must stop.
1 Corinthians 15:29 – Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?
God loves all his children and all will have the chance to accept or reject salvation. All are alike unto God.
How kind of you and your "church". Knock it off. We don't believe in it and it and your church offend our sensibilities.
It never ceases to amaze me when I hear about adults pariticpating in utter nonsense. In the 21st century why are we still "baptizing" people? How can people still embrace Bronze Age thinking? There is no magical man in the sky, dummies.
You dont and cant really know that, just as no one can prove there is...Its all a personal belief. Name calling makes your character clear to the rest of us.
Bronze age thinking? What has changed in the nature of man since 1000 B. C.? or
Do you think the bronze age was somewhere around A. D. 1830 when Mormonism began?
What gives them the right to do that? What a travesty. Shame on them!
Their religious freedom gives them this right, as you have the right not to believe or accept it.
Even assuming somehow Anne Frank, after death, could contact these living Mormons who want her to be Mormon Christians, their ideas would be so foreign and seem totally BIZARRE to her. There is nothing they could say that would ever convince her to convert to their religion. She would think they were CRAZY.
the LDS is a cult , a friendly cult but still a cult .
I'm not so sure they are all that friendly. Ever heard of Warrren Jeffs?
They are not so friendly to gay people who want to be married or stay married.
Warren Jeffs is not a Mormon, he is a of a sect seperate from the LDS.
To the Mormons who did this, you are not the judge of others. These people are dead and are now facing their Maker.
And, their ghosts might come after you and give coffee and cigarettes to your children!
The baptism is not a judgement but a chance to have salvation thru Christ even after death.
The good news that Jesus practiced and that mormonism malpractices is that spiritual man is always the image and likeness of God, who is all the life there is. The life that comes and goes isn't real life. If mormons have nothing better than to pretend like it had power over skeletpns, then let it, but the fact is that LDS is powerless. Meanwhile, it behooves humanity to gain the spiritual sense of Jesus' marvelous words, I am the Way, the Truth and the Life" in their science and prove their utility and beauty now.
Just leave Jews alone. We don't need you and we certainly don't need you to go after our dead. We don't believe in Jesus and we will never believe in him. We don't proselityze and we are not open to conversion to any other faith...so just get it through your head...leave us alone...and I'll give you a little hint...Jews, in general, because of all their accomplishments and contributions to the progress of humanity have a well earned sense of superiority...we're only 14 million strong in the world and yet our contributions, our genius, and our work ethic has made indelible marks on the world...So, if anything, you guys should be trying to become Jews...maybe some of our genius will rub off on you...just go your way and LEAVE US ALONE!!!!
Dear God . . .Let that child rest in peace. It was Anne Frank's religion and her vison, that allowed the rest of the world an insight to the holocaust through the eyes of a young Jewish teenager. To try to baptize her in the name of mormonism, or any other religion which was not hers is the cruelest form of nazi -ism there could be – it achieves exactly what Hitler wanted. It would be like taking Harriet Tubman and absolving her of sin because of her black skin . . .I cannot believe in this day and age in the United States of America there are people this ignorant, and I am ashamed of the human race, when I thought we had come so far . . .
Hey dummy, it happened in the Dominican Republic, not the U.S.
pppssstttt hey chris err I mean dumb phuqq, I believe that Fran63 was referring to the Mormon faith and church, as a whole, which has it's headquarters here in America, Utah I believe. I could be wrong, and if I am then slap my face and paddle me butt red and call me an idiot, but I kinda think I'm right.
I'm not "afraid" of Mormons per se, but that being said.... this baptisim of the dead of other faiths that they do just is not right.
Scared? Maybe not, but they do freak me out!
What if we start baptizing them into OUR faith? Against their will , even? We can outrace them anc convert them all first! ha!
Anne Frank's temple work was submitted & performed by a decendant of Otto Frank, Anne Franks father.
Sorry, didn't read that bit of information, care to share where you got it?
How? He left no descendents. Anne and Margot died in concentration camps and he had no other children. So explain how exactlyl, he has decendents?
Even under church rules they say it's not a legitimate submission.
As a Jew, all I can tell you it's offensive beyond measure. Forced conversions are a sad fact of Jewish history and to be forcibly convert after death means that a human has decided to stand in the place of G0d and make decisions about a person's soul. Even though we know that the Mormon's who do this are impotent, one still naturally recoils at one's dead relatives being dragged in to being a part of a sacrilegious ceremony. It's like someone digging up the bones of my dead mother and using them in some satanic ritual and when object, asking me why I care, they're just bones. I care.
That doesn't matter. If it wasn't Anne Frank's choice to begin with, the point is moot.
1 Corinthians 15:29 – Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?
Do Christians believe the Bible or not?
Another twisted belief from the LDS Church brought by its founder "Joseph Smith". Mitt Rommey has yet not know the real Jesus and not the one on his religion...
"Mitt Rommey has yet not know the real Jesus and not the one on his religion..." nor the one that he wears on his sleeves.
Today, I will convert by proxy Brigham Young, Joseph Smith, Mitt Romney, and the entire Osmond family to Islam.

Pigs will fly first. Go kiss a pig !
Like. 🙂
Yah! And then baptize them Catholic, followed by another baptism to make them born again Baptists!
Please also make Donnie wear a burka. That dude is creepy/weird looking.
Yep, and there's one running for office of the president of the United States.
A great leader and good man, He is what we need in office.
Maybe the Mormons are on to something here...
1 Corinthians 15:29 – Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?
That is just downright bizzarre that a group of people would take it upon themselves to do Posthumous baptisms. What goes through somebody's mind that they would make such a choice for a deceased person? Of all the problems in this world that an organized religion could decide to tackle and this group baptizes the dead – without regard for the relgion of the deceased while they were alive. I rank this right up there with the Religious Zealots that picket the funerals of Service Members to combat gays in America! It makes no damn sense! Makes me proud to say I am not affiliated with ANY religion. More stupdity and attrocity is committed in God's name than any other! Sad Sad Sad Sad!
I think it is a form of OCD. I think many practices of many religions stem from human OCD tendencies.
Jay, you're trying to make sense of the behavior of religious people? Don't bother, it is not worth it to impose logic on illogical people (i.e. people who believe in magican men in the sky). It amazes me that people waste their lives on such stupidness.
I'll pray for y'all..... no, seriously I will!
Where do I submit Muhammad for baptism? Or has he already been baptized into the Mormon church?
He was rejected for the violent acts he commited during his life and the abuse of many woman and young girls...He is not eligable as he is considered a satanic being.
You do know you’re dealing with Mormons that claim
- Thomas S. Monson is the true and living Prophet on earth today (think literal) who receives revelation from God. They now soft sell it by calling him the President of the Church.
–The Church of Latter Day Saints is the only true, (God authorized and with Priesthood Authority) Church on the face of the earth today. All other Church are corrupt and either lost the Priesthood authority thru corruption (think Catholic) or never had it, but took it upon themselves to administer the audiences of the Gospel as in baptism, marriages ect.....
They claim that all they do they have been called by God to do, and everyone must be baptized by the appropriate Priesthood authority that only Mormons have……
I could go on but I have to get to work, ex Mormon
I ment ordinance of the Gospel, sorry, in a hurry
I am now converting by proxy Thomas S. Monson to Islam.
LOL – that sounds exactly like the Catholics – the Pope is the only vehicle through which God speaks, his word is infallible, and no other church on the planet can lead you to salvation. So glad I'm Episcopalian 🙂
Bad new Mormons. I'm going through your memeber list and pouring a beer our for each one of them. They are now baptized in the church of drinkology.
Good for you! I'll buy you some more beer and help!
Mormons truly are jack*sses. And, they are NOT Christians.
Yithak, "Mormons truly are jack*sses. And, they are NOT Christians." How do you make the distinction? All religion is sill from Catholicism to Scientology. It's all just ignorant make-believe with no basis in reality. I hate to break it to you, there is no magical man watching over you. You believe "Christians" are any better than the rest of them?
