Pope heads to Cuba after Mexico visit

By David Ariosto, CNN

Havana, Cuba (CNN) - Pope Benedict heads to Cuba on Monday on the second leg of a tour he's using not just to spread the faith but to address political issues.

Benedict will arrive at the island nation from Mexico, where he denounced drug wars and violence Friday in a visit scheduled just months ahead of its presidential elections. He also blasted Cuba's Marxist political system, saying it "no longer corresponds to reality."

The pope's comments, delivered to reporters aboard a flight from Rome to Mexico, sparked speculation over what he will say once he addresses the Cuban people directly.

~Lying is a sin, you've been proven a liar over and over again on this blog. A great example of prayer proven not to work is the Christians in jail because prayer didn't work. For example: Susan Grady, who relied on prayer to heal her son. Nine-year-old Aaron Grady died and Susan Grady was arrested Friday morning...

An article in the Journal of Pediatrics examined the deaths of 172 children from families who relied upon faith healing from 1975 to 1995. They concluded that four out of five ill children, who died under the care of faith healers or being left to prayer only, would most likely have survived if they had received medical care.

Plus don't forget. The statistical studies from the nineteenth century and the three CCU studies on prayer are quite consistent with the fact that humanity is wasting a huge amount of time on a procedure that simply doesn’t work. Nonetheless, faith in prayer is so pervasive and deeply rooted, you can be sure believers will continue to devise future studies in a desperate effort to confirm their beliefs.!*

One could say the same thing about religion in general, and the catholic church in particular.

  9. wondering

Why is the pope addressing political issues? He's the Catholic leader and shouldn't be involved in politics.

Give a man a fish and he'll have a meal.
Teach a man to fish and he'll have a livelihood.
Give a man religion and he'll die of starvation while he prays for fish.

Ah Cuba - the Communist workers UTOPIA where everyone starves equally and there is only one class - the desperately poor. (of course Castro is not in THAT class .. he is an owner) .. and island of slaves to Castro. But Batista was not good for the island like Castro. He had gambling and drinking and let American sugar growers exploit the middle class workers. (back then they had cars and gasoline .. and FOOD .. and music and partying. They had doctors and dentists. They had new clothes. Things were different then. Now they all starve for the state. Well may Obama can be Castro here - he's trying.

    • RightTurnClyde

Cubans need Catholicism and the Pope to PRAY for food and shelter. They need to have some hope of a post starvation life. They need to believe in something .. and clearly communism is not it. They need faith - hope - and some kind of brotherly love. They have NOTHING. They need the Catholic litanies, chants and rosaries .. and to pray constantly for relief from oppressive poverty. They know how murderous Castro was when he took over.. so revolution is not an option.

    • That was brilliant, Marky

      For best results, should people:
      A. Pray

      OR

      B. Actually do something about it.

That was a stunningly stupid suggestion, Mark. Prayer and other Catholic superstitious practices won't do a damn thing.
