Muslim voters could swing election, report findsBy Richard Allen Greene, CNN (CNN) - The number of Muslims in the United States is tiny - less than one in 100 Americans - but their votes could sway the results of the presidential election in November, a new study says. That's because they are concentrated in a number of key swing states, says Farid Senzai, the author of the report. Take Florida, for example, the state that famously swung the 2000 presidential election for George W. Bush over Al Gore. Bush won by 537 votes - while a get-out-the-vote phone bank contacted 23,000 Muslims in one day during elections in 2008 and 2010, the report says. Nauman Abbasi - the head of Emerge USA, which ran the phone bank - says efforts like his will increase Muslim voter turnout. There are about 1.2 million registered Muslim voters in the United States, according to the study, "Engaging American Muslims." More religious Muslims and those more involved in their mosques are more likely to vote, it found. The biggest Muslim populations are in New York and California, which are unlikely to be battleground states in November. But the next largest numbers of Muslim voters are found in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Virginia, all of which could be key battlegrounds between President Barack Obama and his Republican opponent. Florida and Ohio, two states that have been decided by razor-thin margins in recent years, also have enough Muslim voters to make a difference to the final result, the report says. Of course, many other, larger constituencies, from Hispanics to women to the unemployed to political independents, could also claim to be the key ingredient in a winning coalition. And Muslim voters have much the same concerns as the population at large, with domestic issues and the economy dominating, the study says. Most Muslims voted for Bush in 2000, Democratic Sen. John Kerry in 2004 and Obama in 2008. They are more likely than the population as a whole to approve of Obama's performance now, the study found. The report comes from the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding, a Washington think tank focusing on Muslim issues. It is based largely on earlier data from sources including Gallup, Zogby International and the Pew Research Center. |

The GOP has no supporters except for Rush Limbaugh and the radical right. Everyone else they've lost. Let me list them for you: women, muslims, blacks, Hispanics, educated people, city dwellers, senior citizens, anyone with a pension, labor unions, auto workers, government employees, fire, police, and emergency responders, teachers, college students, college student's parents, anyone who needs health insurance and can't afford it, the unemployed, environmentalists, and many many more! Then to top it off, half the Republican Party doesn't like Mitt. It ain't gonna be close and I expect the GOP to lose a lot of seats in Congress.
Satan of course will vote for Satan......BHO that is.
Wow. You Tea-Baggers are so clever!
Satan aka your mother CSX
"The biggest Muslim populations are in New York and California, which are unlikely to be battleground states in November."
How is it they can swing the vote again?
Read the story!!!!
I oppose to everything you said nick. Apparently, you didn't care at all about readind the article. What's the point of commenting when you do not know what you are commenting on, or reading about? Get your facts straight!
Do not go India ways. In india political parties appeasing muslim voters already brought enough turmoil I wish American politician does not fall trick for some few thousand votes and bring turmoil to US. If they do that I am sure demand for Sharia in US will not be long enough
man, you sure are an idiot.
Another wonderful attempt on CNN's part to further divide Americans by focusing on differences.
The electorate is changing because you have more people becoming American citizens who are from Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. Also, the children they had on U.S. soil are now old enough to vote.
Prayer changes things*
*~Prayer doesn’t not; you are so full of crap and lies. You have NO proof it changes anything! A great example of prayer proven not to work is the Christians in jail because prayer didn't work and their children died. For example: Susan Grady, who relied on prayer to heal her son. Nine-year-old Aaron Grady died and Susan Grady was arrested.
An article in the Journal of Pediatrics examined the deaths of 172 children from families who relied upon faith healing from 1975 to 1995. They concluded that four out of five ill children, who died under the care of faith healers or being left to prayer only, would most likely have survived if they had received medical care.
The statistical studies from the nineteenth century and the three CCU studies on prayer are quite consistent with the fact that humanity is wasting a huge amount of time on a procedure that simply doesn’t work. Nonetheless, faith in prayer is so pervasive and deeply rooted, you can be sure believers will continue to devise future studies in a desperate effort to confirm their beliefs!"~*
ONLY FOR THE NEWCOMERS:
From the studies of Armstrong, Rushdie, Hirsi Ali, Richardson and Bayhaqi-
The Five Steps To Deprogram 1400 Years of Islamic Myths:
( –The Steps take less than two minutes to finish- simply amazing, two minutes to bring peace and rationality to over one billion lost souls- Priceless!!!)
Are you ready?
Using "The 77 Branches of Islamic "faith" a collection compiled by Imam Bayhaqi as a starting point. In it, he explains the essential virtues that reflect true "faith" (iman) through related Qur’anic verses and Prophetic sayings." i.e. a nice summary of the Koran and Islamic beliefs.
The First Five of the 77 Branches:
"1. Belief in Allah"
aka as God, Yahweh, Zeus, Jehovah, Mother Nature, etc. should be added to your self-cleansing neurons.
"2. To believe that everything other than Allah was non-existent. Thereafter, Allah Most High created these things and subsequently they came into existence."
Evolution and the Big Bang or the "Gi-b G-nab" (when the universe starts to recycle) are more plausible and the "akas" for Allah should be included if you continue to be a "crea-tionist".
"3. To believe in the existence of angels."
A major item for neuron cleansing. Angels/de-vils are the mythical creations of ancient civilizations, e.g. Hitt-ites, to explain/define natural events, contacts with their gods, big birds, sudden winds, protectors during the dark nights, etc. No "pretty/ug-ly wingy thingies" ever visited or talked to Mohammed, Jesus, Mary or Joseph or Joe Smith. Today we would classify angels as f–airies and "tin–ker be-lls". Modern de-vils are classified as the de-mons of the de-mented.
"4. To believe that all the heavenly books that were sent to the different prophets are true. However, apart from the Quran, all other books are not valid anymore."
Another major item to delete. There are no books written in the spirit state of Heaven (if there is one) just as there are no angels to write/publish/distribute them. The Koran, OT, NT etc. are simply books written by humans for humans.
Prophets were invented by ancient scribes typically to keep the un-educated masses in line. Today we call them for-tune tellers.
Prophecies are also invali-dated by the natural/God/Allah gifts of Free Will and Future.
"5. To believe that all the prophets are true. However, we are commanded to follow the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) alone."
Mohammed spent thirty days "fasting" (the Ramadan legend) in a hot cave before his first contact with Allah aka God etc. via a "pretty wingy thingy". Common sense demands a neuron deletion of #5. #5 is also the major source of Islamic vi-olence i.e. turning Mohammed's "fast, hunger-driven" hallu-cinations into horrible reality for unbelievers.
Walk these Five Steps and we guarantee a complete recovery from your Islamic ways!!!!
Unfortunately, there are not many Muslim commentators/readers on this blog so the "two-minute" cure is not getting to those who need it. If you have a Muslim friend, send him a copy and help save the world.
Analogous steps are available at your request for deprogramming the myths of Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Paganism..

Prayer changes things
For the better
Proven
Prayer to Zeus is quite nice.
Sorry, science changes things, not prayer. If the deity is omniscient and omnipotent, then prayer is redundant. Further, who's listening to the countless prayers? Out with all religions, and IN with 21 century science for the betterment of all.
I have to wonder about the owners of CNN- CREATIVE NEWS NETWORK
we need to call out and have the same outcome of Catholic, Jews and Christians to get a real sway in the voting outcome.
Now that is something to write about...
Muslims may sway the outcome.....HAHAHAHA!!! That will be the day....
Apparently nick cjose to not read the article before he made this series of inane posts. Because the article explained how a small group of voters could affect the outcome in certain states.
THAT WILL BE THE DAY... WHAT? THAT HAS ALREADY HAPPENED!! DID YOU EVEN READ THE ARTICLE? READ BEFORE YOU COMMENT.
Hard-core religious fundamentalists from other religions have more in common than not: women are second-class citizens, all other religions are from "Satan" "The Devil" "Howdy-Doody" – you name it. If you interpret my beliefs within my religion in any other way you are a heretic or non-believer. Yadda, Yadda, Yadda....
And on it goes.
So in other words, Muslims have absolutely no influence on anything here in America. But I think we already knew that
Recent studies have revealed that the political landscape in the United States COULD BE changed.
Basically it depends on people, imagine that...
Muslims being a swing vote isn't important. We're a democracy. If we become 90% Muslim nothing should change. We still have separation of religion and state. The only reason I think this article was written is to encourage rhetoric.
This is really depressing. We have the middle east to look forward to here. Revenge, and honor killings, hatred, and god-sanctioned murder, bombings, fatwahs, slavery, no intellectual freedom, and misogyny. I can hardly wait...
Ted- I think it's important to remember that most Muslims are not fundamentalist. Just as most Christians in America would not sanction public stonings as a punishment for adultery as outlined in the Old Testament, most Muslims in America do not interpret the Koran with a strict literal interpretation that might result in the political movement that would result in the things you fear. My advice: go talk to a Muslim person in your community.
You're a bigot.
Well Jeez, Ted. That's where all you white Folk cam from in the first place. Deal with it, they're your people
Ted: You have no idea of what will happen. So, stop worring yourself.
Do you know what you are talking about? Not all Muslims are fundamentalists. Go learn about them before you say stupid things. SERIOUSLY!

I agree prayer may not seem to always work but I also agree medicine does not seem to always work. The difference is thousands are getting addicted and dying from medicine. Also there is the concept to pray and try to effect the causes not just sit there like a turtle.
