North Carolina pastor retracts sermon remarks about punching gay kidsBy Stephen Walsh, CNN (CNN) - A Fayetteville, North Carolina, pastor has retracted controversial language used during a weekend sermon in which he instructed parents to hit children who exhibited behavior associated with homosexuality. “I apologize to anyone I have unintentionally offended,” Sean Harris, pastor of Berean Baptist Church wrote in a statement on his church’s website. “I did not say anything to intentionally offend anyone in the LGBT community. “My intent was to communicate the truth of the Word of God concerning marriage,” the statement continued. “My words were not scripted. It is unfortunate I was not more careful and deliberate.”
Harris’s remarks at his church came a week before the state’s voters consider an amendment to North Carolina’s constitution limiting legal unions to marriage between a man and a woman. CNN’s Belief Blog: The faith angles behind the biggest stories "The second you see your son dropping that limp wrist, you walk over there and crack that wrist," Harris said in the Sunday sermon. "Man up. Give him a good punch." "You’re not going to act like that," the pastor advised parents to tell their children. "You were made by God to be a male and you are going to be a male.” In an interview with the Fayetteville Observer, Harris said his comments were meant as a joke. In a video of the sermon posted online, laughter can be heard from some members of the congregation, as well as cries, of “Amen!” as the pastor spoke about responding to seemingly gay kids. Follow the CNN Belief Blog on Twitter Berean Baptist explains its stance on discipline of children on its website: “Remembering the love and forgiveness that God has shown them, parents in turn should train their children with the purpose of reflecting the Heavenly Father to their children. Parents should consider their responsibility to be the instrument of discipline in their child’s life (Prov. 19:18). At times this may include appropriate and reasonable physical means (Prov. 10:13) employed upon the fleshy portion of the child’s buttocks (Prov. 22:15; 23:13); that this method is to be viewed as correction rather than punishment (Prov. 23:13); and that this correction will result in the child’s physical and spiritual betterment.” Harris told the Observer that from within his church, "the response was, 'Pastor, we know you didn't mean that.'" Remember: Nothing says "Jesus" like bigotry and hate!
Tom tom has a stormfront meeting to attend
I am touch by ur message, i will like to have your e-mail sir. Thanks
Even Obama apparently just reversed his position on gay marriage.
Today Biden said he was "absolutely comfortable" with allowing same-sex couples to marry. Obama's spokesman Axelrod later confirmed that the president agrees with the vice president and that he thinks committed and loving same-sex couples deserve the same rights and protections enjoyed by all Americans.
It's never acceptable to punch your child or break his wrists, rather true Christians know parents are supposed to stone their disobedient children to death as in Deuteronomy 21:18-21.
Pastor Harris and every member of that congregation with children under the age of 18 should be investigated for possible child abuse. I know-without solid evidence, you can't just go around assuming ... but it's very likely that many in that church think that guy is speaking for God and will do whatever he tells them to do. There might even be one or two (the ones you can hear cheering) who even think the pastor is God's human form-and yes, will go home and beat their kids. Now, when they are charged with child abuse, I hope they tell the police, "PastorHarris told me to." Then call him to pay for their defense.
Idiot bible thumpers. Go meet your maker now, go turn into worm food.

How do you know that they won't discover a gene which causes criminal tendencies? I knew a guy that told me he had to steal. He said "it's in my blood". He meant it. He hadn't been caught, so this wasn't an excuse given to a judge.
They've only scratched the surface in the science of genetics and are finding that genes control a lot more than was previously thought.
I believe they may also find one or more 'gay genes' in the future as well.
Repeating your idiocy simply confirms you're a moron.
Finding a g a y gene would mean that the afflicted person would have to abstain from s e x unless there was a gene-therapy cure of course.
Hitchens: "Better to cut the limp wrist off at the elbow than keep it and enter hell with it."
This is one of the best comments i've read today because it is *exactly* what Jesus would say. Jesus is the great physician and unfortunately sometimes they have to amputate in order to save the life.
This means that the h o m o does a spiritual amputation, meaning that if he can't be se x ually normal, then he must *abstain from all se x* in order to keep from falling away.
Bwaahhahhhahahhhha. The moron burps again.
An incredibly small price to pay in order to inherit eternal life, i might add.
You would certainly know about s3xual matters that are "incredibly small", farty.
Miracles are happening today and they do not make the paper. Too many atheists would ridicule the news org for 'going off the deep end' even if there was photo proof (anything can be faked, they'd say, photos, medical records, etc).
But the truth is that i was supernaturally healed and i also know a missionary who, while preaching the gospel in Romania, witnessed a miracle. A man whose eyes were totally filmed over with cataracts was instantly healed at the sermon event. The film just faded away in a matter of seconds and his sight was completely restored.
Prove it. Post photos. Post links. Otherwise, you're a liar.
Well, you're a liar anyway, regardless.
Bullsh!t!! Objective scientists would love to investigate miracles. The reason miracles are not reported as such is because they cannot stand the light of real scientific investigations. And as has been said many times, just because something cannot be explained, it does not mean that a god was responsible. To successfully claim that a god did it, you would have to prove the existence of the god first, otherwise your are making up bullsh!t supest!tions just as the goat herders 2,000+ years ago did.
bfart, I didn't believe it possible you were even more idiotic than your previous posts made you appear.
You've surpassed yourself! You're approaching the red line on the crazy meter.

Thank you for confirming what I said! So the Christian response is :"why bother you, especially since you've already made up your mind?"
Got proof, bigfartingbozo? Because if you don't, it didn't happen. Put up or shut up, ya fake.
My advice: FIGHT BACK!
People have to stop and remember something. Gays have been around since time began. If God didn't want that type of lifestyle, then God would not have made men and women gay forever. This is not something new, gays have been here always, look back at history. It's time we gave them what God gave them, acknowledgement.
so has murder, and lying, and cheating, and theft. Does it make these things right too?
@ marusha – why would you compare being born gay (a natural normal variant of human sèxual orientation) with illegal activities? That does't make any sense.
Instead, you should compare being born gay to being born left-handed, geen-eyed, or blond.
Perhaps you should spend less time listening to the "Pastor Dave's" of the world and more time cracking open a science journal or two. The problem is that "Pastor Dave" is an îdiot.
If God had "given" them that lifestyle, He would have better prepared the orifices involved. They WILL die sooner and drive up healthcare costs. This cannot be what God wants for His people.
@primewonk
Ignorance of sin alert. Ignorance noted.
HItchens, do you have anything of substance to say?
When you butt into another conversation, you miss the context and in so doing come off as a moron, Tom,Tom. Somehow it does not come as a shock to think of you in the "moron" realm.
"Butt in to a conversation"? You bonehead, this isn't your private chat and your brain-farts don't have any context.
I have always considered Tom,Tom a moron but was much too polite to note it.
Yeah, me to. God bless
I've seen you post this drivel "ignorance of sin noted" in several threads, dolt. If you have nothing more to do than pretend you are "noting" what someone says, go have a beer and get a life.
Good job at outing yourself, dear. Forgetting to switch handles is a sign of Alzheimer's. You should get that checked out, along with the ugly wart on your nose.
Run along and let the grown ups talk Tom,Tom. Go steal a pig.
Why don't you address the question, Hitchens/just sayin/herbie/fuckwit? Do you think punching your kid will make him straight? Do you think being gay is a choice?
What "grown-ups"? You're a pig. I'm attempting to teach you to sing. I hope it annoys the beJesus out of you.
Come on, piggie, oink some more. On pitch, please. It won't do if you're flat. Or flaccid. Oh, gosh.....sorry about that. Try some Viagra.
Tom, Tom has way more credibility than almost any believer. The only believer that could possibly have more credibility is one that admits there is a non-zero probability their beliefs are pure myth.
Better to cut the limp wrist off at the elbow than keep it and enter hell with it.
Better to cut your limp dick off at the root than to enter hell with it.
@hotair
You have no credibility here and we suspect none in your own country. Your opinion is less than day old dog crap to US. There's your sign
You morons think being gay is the worst possible sin. How is that, considering there's an imbecile named captain ass hole in existence?
I won't be entering hell. You might consider the amputation for yourself Tom,Tom.
Wow, that's the best you can do, you little dweeb?
Take some lessons, moron.
If you are spending the majority of your time on earth here, herbie, as it appears you do, you're already IN hell.
Get a life.
Ah, Captain Asshole surfaces with his usual no substance response. Re: my credibility, I don't worry one second about what you think. You are nothing more than an annoying person with nothing of importance to say. You are not enhancing the world's view of the USA. It is a good thing most people do not make judgements based on a jerk-off like you else the USA's international reputation would be worse than it is. I'm confident virtually no american would claim you as a fellow citizen. That being said, I am also confident that you are a stereotypical american that does not have the experience or smarts to care about what anyone thinks of the USA. Ignornace is bliss and you are probably very blissfull. Now, fuck off like a good little boy.
There is no herbie

I hope they discover a gene that causes idiocy, bigfart, before you breed.
Man....these NC'ers gotta stop marrying their cousins!!!
"Pastor" Harris
There there calm down it will be ok. Here drink this nice glass of
K onservative
K hristian
K ool-Aid
There now you're all better that's a good sheeple.
Ah-the trifecta of living Christians everywhere. I just cannot underdtand who raised their kids in an atmosphere of such stupidity and hate!
Thank god I'm not a Christian!
Amen to that :)...
Atheism is not healthy for children and other living things*
Funny. I find the Catholic church not healthy for children and all living things!
Well that's alright then;-P & just a quick question to (Atheism is not healthy for children and other living things) Funny name, Give me 1 example where prayer has changed anything? ALL the studies indicate the exact opposite, the 1 report that indicated any results were to make the patients worse due to stress about being prayed for. YOU FAIL!
don't feed the troll
One example of prayer changing things = slavery.
You idiot, prayer didn't do a thing to abolish slavery. Slavery still exists. Moron.
William Wilberforce.
Are you claiming that Willy has abolished ALL slavery, everywhere? Why does it still exist, then?
Why don't you "note" something, Hitchy Bit@hy? Maybe that'll make you feel better.
Sin nature of man.
Utter stupidity, the nature of Hitchens/herbie/justlyin'/ captain ass hole.
Tom,Tom you have combined quite a string of names there. Now put up some proof of be exposed as the southern end of a north bound horse.
Why would I need to do so? You're the one who took the bait, little fish.
Care to translate that last post of yours into sober English, you stoner?
The world awaits your proof Tom,Tom . I suspect you are unable to provide any and so are to be considered a paranoid liar as well as a horses ass.
Proof? Of what? That you're a horse's ass and twice as smelly? You provide that proof every time you post, ya muttonhead.
"The world awaits"? Delusions of grandeur, much? Really, dink, get a clue. Do you think anyone cares that you're a troll? That you post dreck? That you're stupid as the day is long?
Nobody gives a crap about you.
Must have hit as nerve. Tom,Tom has lapsed into a vulgar tirade when confronted with its own paranoia.
Still waiting for you to prove your statement.
And you're chomping on every bit of bait I toss out. What's that say about you, Hitchy Bitshy?
Sometime tonight Tom,Tom I've got other things to do. Is that the sound of crickets coming from the proof section?
Still waiting
No need for me to "prove" a thing, Bitchy. The fact that you're here responding to my every post is all the proof needed. You can't stand it when someone finds out you're a fraud.
Aww, you poor dear. You "have other things to do"? Like what? Meet up with Rosy Palm? Beat the dead chicken?
Please. If you HAD a life, you wouldn't be here at all.
Aren't you going to "note" something, Hitchy? Come on, already. What, you can't get it up? AGAIN?!!
What a weak t!t.
Looks like Hitchy the Beotch passed out.
He should not be up there. Period. The church is based on a loving, merciful, just god and we rely on biblical scripture. But you are going to always have different interpretations of it. and this guy, who lacks so much compassion. This is not christianity. Hatred is not christianity.
We need to stop looking at the pastors or priests in front of us thinking that they are infallable. They are human. God is not.
The doctrine of christianity is set, but the people will make mistakes or might just be nuts. like this guy.
praying for that community.
people see the kind of god they want to see. angry, petty people will find comfort in a petty, angry god. pastor harris seems to be one of these, a big mouth bigot. this apology is just so much theatre (but then, so is preaching). he very likely still believes the same thing as before he was "outed", but is just sorry he got caught. well, it doesn't necessarily take a genius to lead people in a religious fervor. praise jayzusss
Your god commands that you kill gay folks, except you guys ignore that part.
Your god commands that young unengaged virgins who are ràped have to marry their ràpists, except you guys ignore that part.
Your god commands that you kill unruly kids, except you guys ignore that part.
Your god commands that you kill women who aren't virgins on their wedding night, except you guys ignore that part.
Primewonk, you do not speak for God. You clearly do not understand the Bible, but that is normal for non-believers.
Primewonk displays a remarkable ignorance of all things Biblical. Ignorance noted
Hitchens, you are a ignoramus. How about you try to actually read your own book? You note other's non-existant ignorance, but claim you are smart. You are wrong in every single one of your comments.
This guy is nuts.
Jesus preaches love. This is hatred.
He should not be speaking for a church. Very innapropriate
Prayer changes things*.
If it did, there wouldn't be ass holes like this being paid to preach.
Yes, look how it transformed this believer into a child abusing bigot. Awesome!
Google it & you'll find your dead wrong. That happens a lot with statements made by some Christians, it's almost as if truth doesn't matter so long as you just believe. that's it isn't it, your not interested in whether it's true or not, you just gotta have some o' that old time religion?
Actually it is true.
Actuall Hitchens, the research shows that in patients undergoing CABG surgery, if they know they are being prayed for, the rates of complications are higher.
If prayer changes things, and Jesus said anything you ask for in god's name will be given you, and that if you have faith as small as a mustard seed you can literally move mountains, then WHY has god NEVER regenerated a severed limb? Does he hate amputees?
How is it Steve that you have first hand knowledge of every amputee from creation until now that you can tell us that none have ever regenerated ?
@primewonk
Ignorance of prayer noted.
Hitchens/herbie/jack ass: Don't you think that an amputee who had such an event occur would have been newsworthy? Don't you think you'd be able to find some report about such a "miracle"?
Idiot.
Tom,Tom
You got a lot of newsprint from 2500 B.C. ? On anything?
Dumbazz, you're the one who thinks the Bible is factual. Anything in there about an amputee growing a replacement limb?
You're beyond idiotic, dear. God didn't even give you a functioning cerebrum. How would he grow a new limb for anyone?
And even if some nut-job claimed that "godgrewmeanewarm" 2500 years ago, moron, why would that have been the most recent miraculous regeneration?
Don't you think that most people who lived 2500 years ago survived after losing a limb? These days, many people do-why isn't your phony-baloney sky fairy doing anything for them?
Come on, Hitchy Bit@hy, where's your response? You've had plenty of time to fabricate your formulaic "noted" post.
What, did you fall asleep, little boy?
I left this page as i didn't think anybody would be dumb enough to try to claim that prayer really works, but there you are! Slavery is justified in scripture, in fact the only time it's mentioned is as instruction to the slave to obey their masters or to the owners to not beat them too much, so how you can claim that Christianity or prayer would have anything to do in getting rid of it takes some major mental gymnastics. Then again that pretty much speaks for the entirety of Christianity. Sorry but it's just too much of a stretch for me to believe something just because as a child i was told it's so. Religion has to do better than that but it can't, so i guess i'll manage without it....ah well never mind!
