Video of North Carolina pastor's plan to 'get rid of' gays goes viralBy Dan Gilgoff, CNN.com Religion Editor (CNN) - Video of a North Carolina pastor preaching that gays and lesbians should be rounded up inside an electric fence is going viral on the Internet, two weeks after North Carolina passed a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage and President Barack Obama voiced personal support for legalizing such marriages. "I figured a way out, a way to get rid of all the lesbians and queers, but I couldn't get it past the Congress," Pastor Charles L. Worley can be seen telling his Providence Road Baptist Church congregation in the video, which had more than 250,000 YouTube views by Tuesday. "Build a great big, large fence - 50 or a 100 miles long - and put all the lesbians in there,” Worley went on to say in his May 13 sermon at his Maiden, North Carolina, church. “Fly over and drop some food. Do the same thing with the queers and the homosexuals, and have that fence electrified so they can't get out. Feed them. And you know in a few years, they'll die out. You know why? They can't reproduce." The phone line at Worley’s church was busy on Monday night and on Tuesday, as was Worley’s home number on Tuesday. The church’s website was down Tuesday morning, but it had described the house of worship as fundamentalist, meaning it represents a Baptist tradition that's more conservative than the Southern Baptists. My Take: The Christian case for gay marriage Worley’s sermon was posted on YouTube by a group called Catawba Valley Citizens Against Hate, which is organizing a protest at the Providence Road Baptist Church on Sunday. Addressing his congregation last Sunday, Worley referred to his earlier controversial sermon. "I talked a little bit, I believe it was last Sunday, on the homosexual lifestyle, and there was a whole lot of people who didn't like what I said," Worley told his congregation Sunday, according to WBTV. "I want to read it out of the Bible, and then we'll go from there." Worley’s initial sermon was partly framed as a response to Obama’s endorsement of same-sex marriage, which he made in a TV interview a day after North Carolina voters passed a state constitutional amendment banning legal recognition of such marriages and other types of gay unions. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, or GLAAD, was working Tuesday to gather criticism of Worley’s comments from other North Carolina pastors. “I am angry and sick at heart over Pastor Worley's comments,” said the Rev. Im attracted to Christianity because its teaches me that its OK to be fallible and in need of mercy, and to have forgiveness towards my fellow man. It teaches me that I can have a second chance, and that being a failure is not a death sentence. That I have an opportunity to get up and walk away from a self defeat, and that no matter how many times I regretfully fall, I simply need to get back up, forgive myself and others, and walk in the light once more. Its a hard road, but I have to walk it, with absolutely no condemnation to my fellow man if fails also.
like the parts that say to kill g.ays, non-virgin brides, disobedient children and anyone working the weekend? like the rules for selling your own daughter into slavery in the bible?
Some of us figured out long ago that you don't need a god to be good. We do the right thing, simply because it is the right thing to do.

You should be down in the trenches as a psychologist dealing with that sick teaching. You'll find it's part of a cycle and the only way to interrupt it is to quash that belief. The amazing thing is that once you quash that belief, the victim suddenly finds that they're able to control bad thoughts and behaviors that they previously had no control over because of that belief.

these were responses to the isrealites who had abandoned God and sought their own way of living instead of worshipping the one true God. this is a picture of how far they had fallen and how destructive they became b/c they chose their sin rather than God.
@Janice – Actually, the Numbers verse is talking about Moses' army sent to destroy the Midanites. So what are you even talking about? Have you never read the Bible? Did your Pastor never share this verse with you? Maybe you should read all of it instead of ignoring the verses you Pastor ignores.
Study up on the historical context of the time period in which the old testament was written as well as when it was written versus when the events happened. Most Christians will take all of that literally and out of context and either ignore it if they don't like it or take it at face value. I encourage others to recognize that the events that take place may be part legend (esp. Genesis) or part of a culture that does not exist anymore. The important thing is to take it all as a whole and understand that it shows a change from a ugly legalistic society that does not work due to mankind's own independent nature to one that is supposed to support love and generosity. Free will gives the opportunity to hate, but also to love which is what God prefers.
It seems as though you have mistaken the Old Testament for a guide on how we are supposed to act. Rather, it is an historical account of life before Christ and how badly we need a savior. Of course, there are some parts of the Old Testament that serve as descriptions of laws and ways of acting but Jesus freed us from laws. As a Christ follower, I don't try to live a "moral" life because it says so in some book. I try to live in a way that is pleasing to Christ. As far as the idea that Christianity is exclusive goes, I don't get it. It is completely inclusive. It is the only major faith that is open to EVERYONE. It doesn't matter your race, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomic status, history, past behavior or future behavior. As long as you are willing to accept Christ in your heart and do your best to live a life pleasing to God, you are good. And in a church that truly honors and represents the Lord, everyone is welcome inside. You don't go to church/accept Christ once you've got it all together. You do those things so that you can begin to try to get it all together. Hope this helps.

as an atheist, i am encouraged by the posting here. lots of non-believers and good people that oppose the tyranny of religion, the oppression of women + g.ays. great to see what i assume are mostly straight people sticking up for g.ays. always amazing to see people sticking up for a group they are not part of. that is humanity to me.
i think what they say is true - there are a lot more non-believers out there than people think. atheism is the fastest growing belief system in the country. if any non-believers want to look up an atheistic ethical system, try Humanism. Humanism promotes logic, responsibility and compassion.

I am Baptist and a North Carolinian (I even attend a church in another town with the same name). That is where all similarity stops. I am so sad that a person would say such horrible things from the pulpit and have church members agreeing with him with their "amens." Please do not think we all think or act the same way. I'm a Baptist pastor and this guy is disgusting. Freedom of speech gives this guy the right to say whatever he wants to say, but he's a fool and stands in opposition to the teachings of Jesus.
