Video of North Carolina pastor's plan to 'get rid of' gays goes viralBy Dan Gilgoff, CNN.com Religion Editor (CNN) - Video of a North Carolina pastor preaching that gays and lesbians should be rounded up inside an electric fence is going viral on the Internet, two weeks after North Carolina passed a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage and President Barack Obama voiced personal support for legalizing such marriages. "I figured a way out, a way to get rid of all the lesbians and queers, but I couldn't get it past the Congress," Pastor Charles L. Worley can be seen telling his Providence Road Baptist Church congregation in the video, which had more than 250,000 YouTube views by Tuesday. "Build a great big, large fence - 50 or a 100 miles long - and put all the lesbians in there,” Worley went on to say in his May 13 sermon at his Maiden, North Carolina, church. “Fly over and drop some food. Do the same thing with the queers and the homosexuals, and have that fence electrified so they can't get out. Feed them. And you know in a few years, they'll die out. You know why? They can't reproduce." My Take: The Bible condemns a lot, but here's why we focus on homosexuality The video had initially been posted on Providence Road’s website but was recently taken down, according to CNN affiliate WBTV-TV in Charlotte. The phone line at Worley’s church was busy on Monday night and on Tuesday, as was Worley’s home number on Tuesday. The church’s website was down Tuesday morning, but it had described the house of worship as fundamentalist, meaning it represents a Baptist tradition that's more conservative than the Southern Baptists. My Take: The Christian case for gay marriage Worley’s sermon was posted on YouTube by a group called Catawba Valley Citizens Against Hate, which is organizing a protest at the Providence Road Baptist Church on Sunday. Addressing his congregation last Sunday, Worley referred to his earlier controversial sermon. "I talked a little bit, I believe it was last Sunday, on the homosexual lifestyle, and there was a whole lot of people who didn't like what I said," Worley told his congregation Sunday, according to WBTV. "I want to read it out of the Bible, and then we'll go from there." As I listened to the reporting on AC 360 regarding Pastor Worley’s message I agree that his words and his way of communicating his theological stand were unwise and archaic. He is being true to his convictions but his words and his way does not resonate with all people who adhere and follow the christian faith. I appreciate the fact that you had Rev. Barry Lynn on and his approach was fair.
The concern I have is that I feel Anderson Cooper pursues people and groups who oppose the gay rights movement more often than any other cause in his show. Anderson is a very fair journalist in “Keeping Them Honest” and is excellent in his presentation but this seems to be a soap box for him. As a Canadian I feel that America is missing the boat on what your real issues are. The debt that has been incurred is alarming. Think about the fact that your candidates have spent millions of dollars for the right to run against President Barack Obama. Now for the actual election millions more will be spent by both sides. Why don’t you adjust your political system and streamline it to run like Britain or Canada do. Yes they are Parliamentary systems but when they call an election they spend much less and the election is over within 30 to 60 days of it being called. That is a huge issue in my books, much bigger than a pastor who leads a congregation of a church that seats 1200 people....really. Very few people would have heard his lack of wisdom but you in your zealous desire to keep them honest actually gave him a voice. I often listen and watch talk show host/comedian Bill Maher who consistently offers up highly offensive anecdotes against religious groups, especially Bible believing christians. CNN and AC 360 never call him on the carpet for his numerous diatribes that criticize the christian position on virtually everything. His audience is much larger and he is just one that I am mentioning. Please pursue and highlight your real issues. Freedom is what achieved your greatness....don’t blow it because you disagree.

CNN has called out Bill Maher on several occasions for statements he's made. The difference is that Bill is a comedian and his opinion on religious matters never discriminates against minority groups. Bill attacks fundiots when they stick their feet in their mouth but leaves moderate Christians alone...heck he often has them on as guests. Does he blaspheme? Certainly but that is expected of one who feels all faith based beliefs are supersti.tious nonsense. Are believers offended by him? Probably but that just reflects the insecurity of those who can't stand having their views challenged or that opposing views should even exist. Do I care what the faithful believe? Not a bit...that is until they try to impose their beliefs on others and especially when those beliefs restrict the rights and privileges of minority groups. Bill isn't preaching at a pulpit telling other people how they should live and behave. He isn't an authority figure and that's a HUGE difference. He's just one guy with an opinion...one I happen to agree with and that's why I find him so funny.
I agree that there is a lot of grocery cart religious individuals in the world. That was my point earlier about divorce. They pick from the religious shelf the items they want to consume and leave the rest behind. Therefore what does it say about that mind set when you have a faith based book like the Bible? It's whole basis is faith. And when these people choose to only believe segments of the book but not others, it degrades their whole position.

What makes all of this hypocritical is that the Bible also considers divorcing your spouse a sin (Matthew 19:6: “So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate.”).
Now according to statistics 51.7% of married couples get divorced. I just wanna ask the bible thumpers where is their outrage toward these divorcees. Should they not be stripped of some of their liberties and rights because of failing to abide by Gods word.
Seems to me many of these people who "cite" the bible, pick and choose parts that support their own prejudices and apply when needed.

If it takes the Bible/religion for you to find self worth, that is certainly better than allowing yourself to be abused. You may find verses in the Bible that support your argument, but you can also find verses that are very negative and abusive towards women. As an atheist, I feel you should be allowed to live safely and fairly in our society regardless of your gender, race, or se xual orientation. The Bible can be used to argue the contrary.

I think they should charge him with inciting violence because his followers probably got all giddy inside when he talked about hurting and getting rid of gay people. He's considered a "spiritual authority" by his flock, so he bears some responsibility for what he says. What if a political leader or a teacher had said the same thing ? Would that same speech have brought them no consequences ?
Umm.... His logic here seems a bit misguided. Wouldn't it make more sense to mandate the sterilization of all the straight people who have gay babies? After all, they're the one's who are actually doing all the reproducing here. Of course, to be logically consistent would mean accepting the idea that being gay is an inherited genetic trait, not a lifestyle choice.

The problem the the pastor preaching his sermon (above video) was spitting out HATE. Hate is hate no matter what context it comes from. It does NOT give the right for that man to say what he wants just because there is freedom of speech. He runs an institution that gets Tax exempted and has a responsibly to not promote HATE. Besides it's just tacky. He looks like an idiot.
