Same-sex ceremony on Army post draws fire

By Alan Duke, CNN

(CNN) - A same-sex ceremony between an enlisted woman and a civilian woman on a U.S. Army post last month drew protests from lawmakers Thursday.

The "private religious ceremony" took place at Fort Polk in Louisiana in May, post spokesman Scott Stearns said, but he would confirm few other details.

Rep. John Fleming, a Louisiana Republican whose congressional district includes the Army post, said the military confirmed to him that the same-sex ceremony was performed by an Army chaplain in the chapel.

The incident was an inevitable consequence of the end of the don't ask, don't tell policy in September, which previously banned homosexuals from military service, Fleming said.

People trying to prevent gay marriage have a very narrow field of vision. Logically blind. If it's based on faith, then have FAITH that YOUR GOD, not YOU, will handle whatever accordingly. Stop trying to be on the Earth Spiritual Police Force. If this is America, then let them live their life as they see fit. Stop fighting over a word (marriage). It's infantile. And if Jesus is your guy, I doubt he'd be happy with his flock. So judgemental. Hypocritical. Self-hating. It's really sad most of the faithful can't grasp the true gems in their ancient texts.

ow if you can just get this published in a respected, pear reviewed anthropology journal instead of some Christian propaganda web site with an obvious bias, you would actually might some evidence. But for now it’s every bit as believable as the evidence for UFO abductions.

Which of the following scenarios is more likely:
      1) Moses chanelled supernatural powers and caused the waters of the sea to part in the middle, making a dry path for the Israelites to walk
      2) The fleeing slaves, unenc.umbered by armour, horses, chariots, weapons and other such weighty items were better able to reach the other side than their pursuers.

Here's the story of someone else who crossed the Red Sea:
"One day, with quite a retinue, Napoleon made an excursion to that identical point of the Red Sea which, as tradition reports, the children of Israel crossed three thousand years ago. The tide was out, and passed over the Asiatic shore upon extended flats. Various objects of interest engrossed his attention until late in the afternoon, when he commenced his return, the twilight faded away, and darkness came rapidly on. The party lost their path, and, as they were wandering bewildered among the sands, the rapidly returning tide surrounded them. The darkness of the night increased, and the horses floundered deeper and deeper in the rising waves. The water reached the girths of the saddles, and dashed upon the feet of the riders, and destruction seemed inevitable. From that perilous position Napoleon extricated himself by that presence of mind and promptness of decision which seemed never to fail him… The horses did not reach the shore until midnight, when they were wading breast deep in the swelling waves. The tide rises on that part of the coast to the height of 22 feet. ‘Had I perished in that manner like Pharaoh,’ said Napoleon, ‘it would have furnished all the preachers of Christendom with a magnificent text against me.’” (Abbot’s Life of Napoleon, Chapter 12, p. 96).

Having been a SCUBA diver for many years and having seen how coral completely engulfs things, I’d say the pictures of chariot parts are modern copies and were planted by the photographer. That stuff just doesn’t look like it’s been exposed underwater for over 3000 years. Just look at the T1tanic, it hasn’t been underwater for 100 years and it’s already rotting away

    • Jacques Strappe, World Famous French Ball Juggler

So they took pictures of this supposed gold wheel hasn't been completely covered over by sediment over the years? The other chariot parts not made of gold didn't rot/rust away? They took pictures but they didn't bother to try to grab any of the stuff to study it? They claim human remains (which would have disappeared in coral/sediment long ago) litter the seabed like a battlefield yet they provide no pictures? All this in addition to the fact that throughout all of the desert over there, not one piece of archealogical evidence indicates that a large group of nomads (possibly numbering over a million) ever set foot in the desert? Yeah, sounds legit.

Oh please. Divers fake "finds" all the time. I've done some wreck diving and a lot of diving among coral beds, and these look like they've been planted.

Let's have some real historians examine them and publish their findings in a peer-reviewed journal, not some religious rag. Until then, my "next move" is to laugh at how gullible some people are.

Ron Wyatt, the "discoverer" of these items claimed to have found Noah's ark, the Biblical Ark of the Covenant, the location of Sodom And Gomorrah, the Tower of Babel, the true site of Mt. Sinai, the true site of the crucifixion of Jesus, and the original stones of the Ten Commandments. This was back in the late 70s and early 80s. His "discoveries" were even dismissed by his own 7th-Day Adventist church.

Mr. Wyatt was not an Archaeologist, he was a nurse anesthetist. I'm not saying that an untrained person couldn't have found something amazing, but do you really think an untrained person would have found all those things that people have been searching for for centuries? Not likely.

Even Wyatt's wife, Mary Nell, was skeptical of his finds after a while. She said of her first dive with him that she thought every piece of coral was a chariot wheel. After a few more, she became more sensible about what might and might not be an artifact.

Oh, and one last thing: the "chariot wheel" that Wyatt pulled up? It's been "lost" for decades, nobody other than Wyatt has ever seen it, and nobody has found the authority on Egyptian artifacts that Wyatt claimed verified it as an Egyptian wheel.

All this kind of adds up to a whole lot of B.S.

There were a few human bones pulled out of the Red Sea. That's true. Of course, there are human bones in pretty much every body of water in the world outside of Antarctic and Arctic waters, so all that proves is that one or two people had a bad afternoon of swimming.

      @Keith
It seems that our next move was to completely discredit those findings with the application of basic logic.
If you have any other "evidence" proving the Bible to be true, we'd be happy to slice it to shreds with Occam's Razor for you.

    • Alfred

      @Scott

“Because coral does not attach to gold or silver, this priceless specimen remains untarnished by time,” he said, calling it “strong evidence that this is actually one of the two chariot wheels that the pharaoh rode to his death.”

Ronald Eldon Wyatt (1933 – August 4, 1999) was an adventurer and former nurse anaesthetist noted for advocating the Durupınar site as the site of Noah's Ark, among other Bible-related pseudoarchaeology. His claims were dismissed by scientists, historians, biblical scholars, and even by leaders in his own Seventh-day Adventist Church, but his work continues to have a following among some fundamentalists and evangelicals.

Doc V., You assume a crossing at a different location for Napolean. If I'm reading the article correctly, it presents the crossing site as a 5% grade to a depth of 900 ft. The shift of a 22 ft. tide would be irrelevant. Besides Doc, you'll notice I said "if" this be true....I'm well aware that their are people out there trying to make a buck off gullible Christians who would cling to this "evidence" hoping it to be true. I'm also aware that this could be a false flag in that it could be actually presented(knowingly so) by some upscrupulous dirt bag who wants to simply have it debunked, thus giving the Christians a black eye. I wasn't born last night, Doc. Personally, whether this is the actual site with actual Egyptian military hardware really would come as no shock to me. I believe the Word of God. Just because I don't understand it yet, doesn't mean it isn't true. Again, I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't just some clever hoax, either. I would think Joseph Farrah would've checked into this story before just running out and publishing it. But back to the origian question, "if"...you never did answer the question.
Sometimes the church tries to outthink God. For instance, for years they tried to allegorize a literal re-gathering of Israel. However, May 15, 1948 proved them to be incorrect, as the re-gather of Israel began. Funny how the extinct language of Hebrew made a mysterious comeback too, eh?

      June 8, 2012 at 3:13 pm |

You have a VERY poor understanding of history. You confuse Atheism with political power and the paranoia Stalin had to keep that power. His actions were NOT guided by Atheism, but rather by political goals and gains. After you finish summer school for your 3rd year of 6th grade, try taking a poli-sci course, so you'd learn the inherent flaws of Coomunism when human nature is thrown into that equation.

Communist leaders like Pol Pot and Stalin would not have been charismatic enough to gain converts had they not learned the discourse of dogmatic persuasion from religious inst/itutions.
Pol Pot spent 8 years at a Catholic school in Phnom Penh and Stalin 5 years at a Russian orthodox seminary. Historians have noted their speaking and writing styles ape those of the Church in being 'declamatory and repet.itive, with liturgical overtones”.
While they both sought to eliminate traditional religions from their kingdoms, they did so in order to divert the common man’s fervour to their own cults of personality.
As Karl Marx himself noted “Atheism as a denial of this unreality; has no longer any meaning, for atheism is a denial of God and tries to assert through this negation the existence of man; but socialism as such no longer needs this mediation...”
Hitler’s Third Reich, on the other hand, was no friend to atheists and encouraged religion in Germany. Having been exposed to religious methods of persuasion in school at a Benedictine cloister, Hitler recognized religion’s power to keep the people compliant.
Instead of purging faith like the Communist regimes, he purged atheism:
"We were convinced that the people need and require this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out".
The Speeches of Adolf Hitler, April 1922-August 1939, Vol. 1 of 2, Oxford University Press, 1942
While Mao, Stalin and Pol Pot put themselves into the Godhead position, Hitler publically professed his Christianity until his dying day and used Christian arguments to whip his people into a frenzy. This is why Nazi uniform belt buckles were emblazoned with the slogan “Gott mit uns” (God is with us).
Each of these leaders wielded their people’s predilection for faith like a weapon. Atheism is not the prime cause for these tragic regimes – the misdirection of faith is.
Like religion, they demanded blind obedience and obsequious submission from their followers. They tolerated no free-thinkers and enforced dogmatism – a trick they learned from their religious educations.

@StandupforTruth:”"So do we kill first and then justify? Or do we rely on The Commandments?”

Christian butcher usually rely on Leviticus and Deuteronomy for their justification.
And Moses said unto them “Have ye saved all the women alive?... Now therefore Kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known a man by lying with him, but all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves” Num 31:1-2, 9-11, 14-18

my point was? To prove to atheists that atheists actually have killed the most history has ever seen.

They did it because they could yet NO atheist stand up against Stalin or any other atheistic leader who murdered and kill their own people.

The religion of atheism(The belief there is no God without proof) has killed the most.100 million died because of their cruel intentions yet they did not kill in the name of atheism or God.

They killed because they could. To be an atheist one must look at themselves as a god of their world.

That's how they viewed world."I'm God now of my own world and this world".

Atheism is a negative statement that says only what one does NOT believe.
It does not imply any behaviours, morals, or characteristics whatsoever.
Stalin not wave a banner of atheism for the populace to rally around – his was a cult of personality.
It is a truism that almost any sect, cult, or religion will legislate its creed into law if it acquires the political power to do so, and will follow it by suppressing opposition, subverting all education to seize early the minds of the young, and by killing, locking up, or driving underground all heretics.

Heterosexual behavior and homosexual behavior are normal aspects of human sexuality. Despite the persistence of stereotypes that portray lesbian, gay, and bisexual people as disturbed, several decades of research and clinical experience have led all mainstream medical and mental health organizations in this country to conclude that these orientations represent normal forms of human experience.

Now, the question is, which of these news organizations went to federal court and the FCC claiming they had a constîtutional right to LIE to the public during their newscasts?

Did you figure it out yet?

OK, It wasn't CNN. It isn't CNBC. It isn't MSNBC. It isn't ABC. It isn't CBS. It isn't NBC.

"Children are being taught that it is ok to CHOOSE to be gay and they are taking GOD out of schools! "

All major medical professional organizations concur that sexual orientation is not a choice and cannot be changed, from gay to straight or otherwise. The American, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, and European Psychological, Psychiatric, and Medical Associations all agree with this, as does the World Health Organization and the medical organizations of Japan, China, and most recently, Thailand. Furthermore, attempts to change one's sexual orientation can be psychologically damaging, and cause great inner turmoil and depression, especially for Christian gays and lesbians.

The scientific evidence of the innateness of homosexuality, bisexuality, and transgenderism is overwhelming, and more peer-reviewed studies which bolster this fact are being added all the time. Science has long regarded sexual orientation – and that's all sexual orientations, including heterosexuality – as a phenotype. Simply put, a phenotype is an observable set of properties that varies among individuals and is deeply rooted in biology. For the scientific community, the role of genetics in sexuality is about as "disputable" as the role of evolution in biology.

On the second point, that there is no conclusion that there is a "gay gene," they are right. No so-called gay gene has been found, and it's highly unlikely that one ever will. This is where conservative Christians and Muslims quickly say "See, I told you so! There's no gay gene, so being gay is a choice!"

The fact that a so-called "gay gene" has not been discovered does not mean that homosexuality is not genetic in its causation. This is understandably something that can seem a bit strange to those who have not been educated in fields of science and advanced biology, and it is also why people who are not scientists ought not try to explain the processes in simple black-and-white terms. There is no gay gene, but there is also no "height gene" or "skin tone gene" or "left-handed gene." These, like sexuality, have a heritable aspect, but no one dominant gene is responsible for them.

Many genes, working in sync, contribute to the phenotype and therefore do have a role in sexual orientation. In many animal model systems, for example, the precise genes involved in sexual partner selection have been identified, and their neuro-biochemical pathways have been worked out in great detail. A great number of these mechanisms have been preserved evolutionarily in humans, just as they are for every other behavioral trait we know (including heterosexuality).

There are many biologic traits which are not specifically genetic but are biologic nonetheless. These traits are rooted in hormonal influences, contributed especially during the early stages of fetal development. This too is indisputable and based on extensive peer-reviewed research the world over. Such prenatal hormonal influences are not genetic per se, but are inborn, natural, and biologic nevertheless.

  15. WHY?

There are two different “10 Commandments” in the bible

    The First Tablets (Exodus 20)

    The Second Tablets (Exodus 34)

    1. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before me.

    1. [Y]ou shall worship no other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

    2. You shall not make for yourself
a graven image. [Y]ou shall not bow down to them or serve them.

    2. You shall make for yourself no molten gods.

    3. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.

    3. The feast of unleavened bread you shall keep.

    4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

    4. All that opens the womb is mine.
[Sacrifice firstborn male animals to Yahweh.]

    5. Honor your father and your mother.

    5. Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest..

    6. You shall not kill.

    6. [Y]ou shall observe the feast of weeks, the first fruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering.

    7. You shall not commit adultery.

    7. You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven.

    8. You shall not steal.

    8. [N]either shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left until the morning.

    9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

    9. The first of the first fruits of your ground you shall bring to the house of the LORD your God.

    10. You shall not covet.

    10. You shall not boil a kid in its mother’s milk.

ISNT IT ODD, THAT IN 2 VERY DIFFERENT “10 COMMANDMENT” THERE IS NOT 1 COMMANDMENT, NOT 1, THAT SAY YOU SHALL NOT MOLEST CHILDREN!!

NO COMMANDMENT TO PROTECT CHILDREN, YET THERE ARE COMMANDMENTS THAT PROTECT MEN, AND THEIR “PROPERTY”!!!

WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD BE MORE IMPORTANT TO GOD?
MATERIALS? OR THE LIFE AND WELL BEING OF OUR CHILDREN???

THIS IS CLEAR INDICATION THAT THE BIBLE AND THE 10 COMMANDMENTS WERE WRITTEN BY MEN, AND FOR MEN!!!

MAN GAVE YOU RELIGION, GOD GAVE YOU REASON!!
    USE IT!!!

PROTECT OUR CHILDREN FROM THE IMPOSTERS POSING AS MEN OF GOD!!!

No you won't find a specific commandment that says: you shall not molest children, as there are many other specific commandments not listed. However, all sins can be covered by one or more of the Ten Commandments. In the case of child molestation I think that could fall under “Thou shalt not steal” To molest a child the perpetrator is stealing the innocence of a child, or taking away the dignity of the child. At any rate the perpetrator is taking something that is not lawfully his/hers.

NO, NO, NO! you are taking this out of context. What it really means is that “it would be better to protect someone and transfer to a place of better pickings if they rpae a little one”. Just like the catholic church has demonstrated.

Let's pick up where we left off, shall we?

Why does god explicitly allow males to own sex slaves. In what universe would a perfect, thus unchanging, god find this to be morally acceptable?

Why does god want women to be silent? Why did he not create women as equals?

Women are equal. We just have different roles in life.

      June 8, 2012 at 2:18 am |
    • Juggling Squirrel-Jesus

How, exactly, would you define 'equal'? In the Animal Farm or Jim Crow way?

"But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence." 1 Timothy 2:12

      June 8, 2012 at 2:33 am |
    • Juggling Squirrel-Jesus

For selling your daughter as a slave, try Exodus 21:7-11 which has the added benefit of implicitly allowing polygamy.

      June 8, 2012 at 2:36 am |
    • WHY?

Leviticus 27:3-7 is how God lets little girls and women know they are not worth much. It reads, "And thy estimation shall be of the male from twenty years old even unto sixty years old, even thy estimation shall be fifty shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary. And if it be a female, then thy estimation shall be thirty shekels. And if it be from five years old even unto twenty years old, then thy estimation shall be of the male twenty shekels, and for the female ten shekels. And if it be from a month old even unto five years old, then thy estimation shall be of the male five shekels of silver, and for the female thy estimation shall be three shekels of silver. And if it be from sixty years old and above; if it be a male, then thy estimation shall be fifteen shekels, and for the female ten shekels." How do you explain to innocent impressionable children that their Creator, God, has put a monetary value on them? And an extremely low one at that! And that God thinks girls are worth only about half as much as boys! Also, the Bible god does not even bother putting a value on infants younger than one month let alone on unborn babies.

      June 8, 2012 at 2:39 am |

That pas.sage is talking about the roles of people in a church.

      June 8, 2012 at 2:44 am |
    • Juggling Squirrel-Jesus

So, women are not to have any authority in the church. They are to be silent when dealing with matters relating to god. And yet they're still equal. Riiiight. Does 1=3 in your world? I guess all people are equal, some are just more equal than others, right?

      June 8, 2012 at 2:50 am |
    • Topher

Exodus 21:7-11 ... This passage is about protecting women from the wrongdoings of their master. Not sure what you are reading that is saying polygamy is OK.

    • Juggling Squirrel-Jesus

Do you also want me to spoon feed you passages where women are told to be subservient to their husbands? Or how about when god commands that rape victims be put to death – cause that's so very moral.

    • Juggling Squirrel-Jesus

Just because the man does this doesn't mean God is condoning it.

"And protecting the woman? Are you nuts? It talks about selling her into slavery."

Dude, read the verses ... "he shall let her be redeemed" ... "He shall have no right to sell her to a foreign people" ... "If he designates her for his son, he shall deal with her as with a daughter" ... "If he takes another wife to himself, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, or her marital rights."

      Wow are you dense.

Yes, they will all stand before Him and be judged. But they won't be condemned because they didn't follow Jesus. They will be condemned because they've sinned against Him. You are saved by Christ because He paid the fines for your sins so you don't have to go to Hell.

    • WHY?

Suppose you were a man who 1usted after a certain female vir-gin who was not romantically interested in you. All you had to do, if you were an Isr-ae-lite, was ra-pe her, pay her father some money, and then marry her. After that, you could ra-pe her almost every night because she would be your wife. It sounds like this rule was invented by an ugly, odi-ous, and exceedingly ho-rny male Isr-ae-lite.

Topher, just how bigoted and ignorant are you? Your "god" is supposedly perfect, yet creates imperfect beings, then judges and condemns them on those imperfections. Your little "holy book" is, in your feeble mind, the word of a "god", so why NOT use "his" own words against him?

      June 8, 2012 at 3:22 am |
    • Juggling Squirrel-Jesus

Holy Logic Fail. If god didn't condone someone taking another wife, then the verse would have read 'if he takes her as his wife, then he obviously can't take another wife since marriage is just between two people'

But it doesn't say that, does it.

And really, is your defense of these obviously immoral passages just 'you're going to burn in hell'? HAHAHAHA. Pathetic.

There is no hell. There won't be any judgement day. I won't get a visit from the tooth fairy if I leave a tooth under my pillow, santa isn't bringing me presents on Christmas and Harry Potter isn't going to save the world. I mean, given that I dno't believe in your god, do you see how hopelessly empty such attempts at extortion are? And that's really what your god is doing, extortion – believe in me or I'll torture you. It's sadistic. Your god is more like a teenager playing the Sims than a benevolent deity.

Oh, you're right. I was being dense. I mean, selling her is OBVIOUSLY moral. Selling her to foreigners would be BAD. So, slavery is moral so long as the trade isn't international. Thanks for that.

Wrong. If you're going to rant against something, read it first. God did create perfect beings. When Adam sinned, the world became "fallen." You will be judged on your sins. Why won't you answer the question?

But your god already knows the choice before I'm created. He knows he will allow me to be tortured before ever giving me the opportunity to make the choice.

If a father knew his child was going to get permanently hurt, could prevent it from happening, but sat by and did nothing, would you say that father was loving? What if, after the fact, the father could take away the pain, but chose not to, wold you still consider that to be a loving father.

And, hypothetically, if I'm standing before your god on judgement day I'll ask why did he give me a brain if he didn't want me to use it.

I'm sure you think I have some evil motives, but I just don't want you to go to Hell. Why would I be telling you this otherwise? I don't want your money and I'm not inviting you to my church. Bear with me on this ... IF Christianity is true and God has died in your place, why wouldn't you want this? And IF I someone could prove it was true, would you become a Christian?

      @Topher,

You've yet to answer a single question that didn't amount to a weak defense of slavery or a god with relativistic, changing (and therefore imperfect) morals. You are unable to defend the more inconvenient passages of your bible, of which I've only asked about a trivial amount. You cannot defend the obviously logical fallacies that christianity puts forth. I sincerely hope that you do some internal searching. Read about other faiths. Read independent religious scholars. Open and expand your mind. Educate yourself It's quite liberating. Letting go of my faith was the healthiest and one of the most fulfilling things I've ever done in my life.

Your god allows people to be eternally tortured for decisions made, relatively, in far less than a blink of an eye. That you're attempting to excuse that is, frankly, disgusting. You're missing the whole point. Your god knows what I'm going to choose before he even allows me to be created. He creates me knowing he's going to torture me. How can you possibly justify such sadistic behavior? If you had the ability to stop someone's ETERNAL suffering, regardless of who's choice it was, wouldn't you do it? Your god is basically allowing me to be tortured for guessing wrong. Or, in the case of most people, he's torturing them for being born in the wrong geographic area since that's far and away the primary factor for what religion one has as an adult.

And your god didn't 'take punishment'. Either that or he isn't omnipotent. The concept of sacrifice to an omnipotent being is ludicrous.

So go drink a lethal dose of strychnine, and see if your still here tomorrow!

"Once again, you can't answer a simple question. Why does your god punish all of his creation because of the choice of two individuals thousands of years ago. In what context is that loving?"

While it is Adam's fault sin entered the world it is YOUR fault for sinning.
How many times in your life have you told a lie? Just take a guess at the number.
Have you ever stolen anything? It doesn't matter if it is a long time ago or of its value. It could have been change off a counter, a song you illegally downloaded or a piece of candy at the store.
Have you taken the Lord's name in vain? Said OM-! Do you realize how serious this is? God says he won't hold him blameless who takes His name in vain.
And the one that gets all of us men ... Jesus said you've heard by them of old that you should not commit adultery, but I say to you whoever looks at a woman, to lust after them, has committed adultery already with them in your heart. If you're a man and have blood in your veins you've got to admit you've done that a ton of times.

But despite how wicked we are, God loved us so much He came and took the punishment we deserve. Go read about the beatings and punishment He took even before the cross. This is love. Deny it if you want, but there is no greater love.

      June 8, 2012 at 3:51 am |
    • Juggling Squirrel-Jesus

Your god took punishment? SO, you're god obviously isn't omnipotent. But then again, your god keeps secrets from himself, so I suppose that isn't surprising.

Topher, if Jesus ever existed in the first place....

You fail to address what I stated earlier. If you've read your bible, then you'd know that jesus himself lied. It's the red scripture in the bible. Go on, read it.

"If you had the ability to stop someone's ETERNAL suffering, regardless of who's choice it was, wouldn't you do it?"

      June 8, 2012 at 3:55 am |
    • Juggling Squirrel-Jesus

And there most certainly is a greater love. How about 'I will not allow any of my creations to suffer eternally'. There. Easy.

Frankly, the idea that your god is loving is primarily based upon a single passage from John – frankly, the least reliable of any of the gospels. The Hebrews knew perfectly well that their god was a war god, which is why the made a pact with him in the first place and which is why the god of the OT is so blood thirsty. But you'd have to actually read your bible to know that.

      June 8, 2012 at 3:55 am |
    • Juggling Squirrel-Jesus

So, stopping someone's eternal torture is obviously moral. Yet, your god has the ability to do it, but won't. Ergo, your god is not moral. Thanks for proving the point.

      June 8, 2012 at 3:56 am |
    • HellBent

And, really, if you want to convince someone that your argument is the correct one, issuing threats really isn't the way to go, especially when the threats on the receiving end are necessarily impotent.

      June 8, 2012 at 4:00 am |
    • Juggling Squirrel-Jesus

You still haven't answered what you'll say to Zeus before he sends you to Hades.

If you'd prefer, you can tell us what you'll say to Ra before he lets Ammit have at you.

But I'm guessing you'll continue to ignore the questions you find inconvenient.

"So, stopping someone's eternal torture is obviously moral. Yet, your god has the ability to do it, but won't. Ergo, your god is not moral. Thanks for proving the point."

He's moral. And just. Which means He'll give you what you deserve. And HE WILL save you from torment. Have you not read anything I've said, or is your heart that hardened? He took the punishment you deserve so you don't have to.

      June 8, 2012 at 4:03 am |
    • Topher

Nothing inconvenient about it. What did Zeus or Ra have to say about going to Heaven? Not much. And they are false Gods so I'm not too worried.

      June 8, 2012 at 4:06 am |
    • Juggling Squirrel-Jesus

Just because you say he's moral doesn't make it so. And you've made it quite clear that he won't save me, because I've chosen to use the brain he gave me. You completely skipped over your obvious contradiction. You've just spent the last several posts saying how he won't save me. Now he will? Which is it?

Stopping someone's eternal torture, regardless of the choice, is moral. Your god doesn't do this. Your god isn't moral. He's evil. You worship an evil god. You can say he's loving all you want, but in doing so you're just making claims that are demonstrably illogical.

      June 8, 2012 at 4:06 am |
    • Juggling Squirrel-Jesus

So you won't answer the question – just more deflection. This is getting to be rather boring.

So your god is the true god. Because your book says so. And why do you know you're book is correct? Because the book says so. Brilliant.

We're actually fairly similar, you realize. We both reject tens of thousands of gods. I just go one further.

      June 8, 2012 at 4:08 am |

"And you've made it quite clear that he won't save me, because I've chosen to use the brain he gave me. You completely skipped over your obvious contradiction. You've just spent the last several posts saying how he won't save me. Now he will? Which is it?"

If I've misrepresented the Gospel I apologize. But I don't think I have. You can be saved. It's not too late for you. You aren't dead yet. But be careful, none of us are promised another day.

Here's the Gospel. You've sinned. You deserve Hell. God came to earth and took the punishment you deserve for those sins on the cross then rose from the grave defeating death. What you must do is repent of your sins (that means not just say you are sorry, but turn away from them) and trust Him to do what He said He'd do. When you do this, you'll be "born again" meaning you'll have a new heart and new desires. You won't want to commit those sins anymore and you'll love the things of God.

The Egyptians had their Coffin Texts regarding the wishes of Ra (Re) in the afterlife. They are way older than your Hebrew "God" stories - around 2200 BC.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffin_Texts

Their Pyramid Texts are even older - 2400 BC, although they dealt mainly with Pharaoh's afterlife.

The Hebrews grabbed some of their supernatural ideas from the Egyptians and even from Hindu stories, which are much older too.

  18. WHY?

The Crea-tor is knowable and disco-verable through the crea-tion itself. It is very unders-tandable how people could be turned off by man-made reli-gions and supe-rsti-tions with their bom-b-ings and fina-ncial beg-a-thons, and con-fuse arti-ficial or rev-ealed reli-gion with God. However, some att-itudes of acce-pting things simply as not know-able is dang-erous to the pro-gress of huma-nity. Many things were not know-able in the past that are know-able today. At one time Euro-peans believed it was impos-sible to know what was on the other side of the Atla-ntic Ocean: but they were wrong. As we learn more about the scie-nces, we are learning more about the Power that put those pri-nciples in place. An ete-rnal Being, whose power is equal to His will.

This isn't meant to be a physics lesson for those of you who think that it is.
    Its simply my philosophy!!

Like you just admitted, it's your philosophy. Next time, try using what normal undeluded people refer to as "facts". Please, look up that word, because you haven't used ONE yet.

    • WHY?

@squirrel, just because you don't want to see one doesn't mean that there isn't one! Dumb azz!

And um, non-Harvard physics-professor!! dahses are no where near as fuk'n annoying as you are!!

Mirosal, here's a fact for you.. You try hard to be a smart azz, but you're still just a dumb azz!

Hey, dumbass, I never said there wasn't. You're the one who claimed that the creator was knowable. Maybe try actually reading what I wrote next time, genius.

Just because you see gaps in science, and there are many, does NOT mean that there is a "creator" of any kind. That's why "gods" were invented by man; to explain natural events that primitive man did not know the how and why to. As science grows, the need for saying there's a "god" to explain it away decreases, and in time, your "god" will also join the thousands of others relegated to the realm of mythology.

      June 8, 2012 at 2:03 am |
    • WHY?

My god can't be explained away. My god is the universe, and more. Im not saying that god is some man sitting in the sky watching over everyone. Or that god is of my own image... Im just saying that I believe that everything that is, was or will be, is of god!!

I know that may sound weird to you, but again. Its a personal belief..

      June 8, 2012 at 2:12 am |
    • BECAUSE. THAT'S WHY.

You're an idiot. That's all there is to say. The end.

      June 8, 2012 at 2:17 am |
    • Mirosal

Fine, it's your personal belief. But, don't try to push it off on us as a "fact" that there's a "god" of any kind.

      June 8, 2012 at 2:18 am |
    • WHY?

      Mirosal,

thats is not, and never was my intention...

I dont post anything negative about atheist ever. In fact, I stand with them, but Jesus Christ, I put up one post, about my own personal belief, and the whole room comes down on me.
Not that it matters or anything, im just saying!

One post? You've been all over the bloody place for the past couple days spamming the bleeding blue urine out of the comment section with nonsense. It's your own fault, there is no one else to blame. I'm fairly certain everyone here has had enough of you. I know I have and I haven't even been here for more than ten minutes this evening. If I believed in god, I'd be asking it to hurl a meteor the size of a horse to your geographical coordinates right now.

  19. WHY?

In the first place, admitting matter to have properties, as we see it has, the question still remains, how came matter by those properties? To this they will answer, that matter possessed those properties eternally. This is not solution, but assertion; and to deny it is as impossible of proof as to assert it.

"It is then necessary to go further; and therefore I say – if there exist a circ-ums-tance that is not a property of matter, and without which the universe, or to speak in a limited degree, the solar system composed of planets and a sun, could not exist a moment, all the arguments of atheism, drawn from properties of matter, and applied to account for the universe, will be overthrown, and the existence of a superior cause, or that which man calls God, becomes discoverable, as is before said, by natural philosophy.

Thank you for kiddy-school physics 101. Try mixing in some facts wih your long winded nonsense.

Whatever you're on, I want some.

      June 8, 2012 at 1:06 am |
    • WHY?

"God is the power of first cause, nature is the law, and matter is the subject acted upon."

In addition to motion acting as a perpetual preserver, it also acts as a continual source for the universe's constant expansion. Every second the universe is expanding at the speed of light (186,282 miles per second). According to Astronomy Magazine, 2/14/92, page 49, "Astronomers presently believe there isn't enough mass in the universe, even with dark matter, to stop its expansion." This exciting realization should fill everyone with unlimited appreciation when we realize we are a part of this amazing and spectacular universe! The Creator is immeasurably generous!

      CIRCUMSTANCE.

What is so difficult about this word you have to ruin it with a dash?

      June 8, 2012 at 1:42 am |
  20. WHY?

Ever heard of string theory, or M theory?

If you think of everything being that of wave compilations, you have to consider that something's do last forever.

If a wave is set in motion, it will continue on forever, without some for of resistance..

If we think of eternity as a wave forever, then there can't be anything (no resistance) before eternity, and nothing after (of course), therefore eternity has to be a loop constantly recycling its own energy! Or the twisted loop know as infinity!

    June 8, 2012 at 12:23 am |
    • WHY?

Wow its late! I know that doesn't make sense to anyone. And i would try to correct it but it's way past my bed time... Forgive my poor attempt at explaining how eternity may be real...

I will try to give a better more detailed explanation tomorrow.
