Same-sex ceremony on Army post draws fire

By Alan Duke, CNN

(CNN) - A same-sex ceremony between an enlisted woman and a civilian woman on a U.S. Army post last month drew protests from lawmakers Thursday.

The "private religious ceremony" took place at Fort Polk in Louisiana in May, post spokesman Scott Stearns said, but he would confirm few other details.

Rep. John Fleming, a Louisiana Republican whose congressional district includes the Army post, said the military confirmed to him that the same-sex ceremony was performed by an Army chaplain in the chapel.

The incident was an inevitable consequence of the end of the don't ask, don't tell policy in September, which previously banned homosexuals from military service, Fleming said.

This argument will never end. What most people always seem to forget is that it is not for us to judge. If you are religious, you should know that it is up to God to judge. Not us. For crying out loud, it's hard enough to be happy with one's self these days than to try to make sure everyone else is living the way that YOU want them to. Everyone that is fanatical about gays on the planet needs to get a grip and focus on their own lives.

5 Reasons Why Gays in the Military is Wrong

    1) Being gay is not natural. Real service members always reject unnatural things like body armor, camouflage clothing, and vaccinations.

    2) Gay service members will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

    3) Gays in the military is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

    4) Gay service members will change the foundation of the military; it could never adapt to new social norms. Just like they haven't adapted to APCs, indoor plumbing, or electronic communication.

    5) The military has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women can't fly planes, blacks still can't serve with whites, and all ships still run on wind power.

I realize that it's Sunday night and this article is getting a little long in the tooth, but where is everybody? Oh yeah, after a day of church and Christian fellowship, what's better than heading down to the local tavern for a few drinks and maybe a snort? There's still time here on the left coast, but in the eastern US I imagine you're already passed out in a dumpster clutching a well-worn Bible. Well-worn not from reading it but from using it as a coaster for your beer.

If we are going to hate people for the way they're born, shouldn't we also hate left-handers, redheads, etc? Why stop at LGBTs? There are a lot more minorities we can pounce on. Shouldn't we go into everybody's home just to have a look and make sure they're behaving themselves? I further suggest we allow ultra-conservative Christians with little education and even less understanding of the Bible to make the rules. These bedwetters who handle snakes and drink haterade are just what we need to keep us all on the straight and narrow.

    June 11, 2012 at 2:03 am |

While I agree with you, I feel compelled to point out that left-handed people and redheads ARE subject to discrimination and bullying. While not on the same level as the LGBT community, various races and religions, it is a problem.

I am by no means defending Mr. Fleming, because we all know exactly what he is thinking. However, his statement about the inevitability of this type of thing is quite true. I for one, think it is great that we are already dealing with this inevitable issue. However, I am not going to comment on how I hope it plays out.
Mr. Fleming's statement about this type of thing being inevitable is correct, which is not Typical redneck Rethuglicans behavior. Nor is it typical of them to not include an opinion about the topic.

This country was founded on the freedom of religious practices and equality – life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It does not say – only if they agree with our religious beliefs. If this group of fundamentalists want to return to the founding principles, then these are it – freedom of religion and life, liberty...equality.

It is about time the military had the balls to lead the way on something like this. One of the major roles our military has had over the past century is breaking down class/racial and other discriminations in the country. It's the right thing to do to support these folks in their pursuit of happiness – happiness that does not diminish anyone else's happiness or life enjoyment.

I hope Fleming does something about this. Whoever authorized this needs to be punished. This is a disgrace to the US military. I for one am sick of ho-mos pushing themselves on the American people.

  16. Kindness

    Kindness
    For you.
A thought to consider without an ego response

Accept Jesus christ as your lord and saviour. You never know how soon is too late. Transcend the worldly illusion of enslavement.
    The world denounces truth....

Accepting Jesus Christ (for me) resulted in something like seeng a new colour. You will see it .....but will not be able to clearly explain it to anyone else..... Its meant to be that way to transend any selfism within you.

Also... much the world arranges "surrounding dark matter into something to be debated" in such a way that protects/inflates the ego.

The key is be present and transcend our own desire to physically see evidence. We don't know anyways by defending our own perception of dark matter.

Currently.... most of us are constructing our own path that suits our sin lifestyle. Were all sinners. Knowing that we are is often an issue. But both christians and non are sinners.

We don't like to Let go and let god. We want control to some degree. This is what Jesus asks us to do. "Follow me".
It's the hardest thing to do... but is done by letting the truth of scripture lead you (redemptive revelation)... as I said .

Try reading corinthians and see if it makes sense to you. Try it without a pre conceived notion of it being a fairy tale.
    See the truth...
do we do what it says in todays society... is it relevant... so many have not recently read and only hinge their philosophy on what they have heard from som other person...which may have been full of arogance pride or vanity..

Look closely at the economy ponzi, look at how society idolizes Lust , greed , envy, sloth, pride of life, desire for knowledge, desire for power, desire for revencge, gluttony with food etc .

    Trancsend the temporal world.

Just think if you can find any truth you can take with you ....in any of these things. When you die your riches go to someone who will spend away your life..... You will be forgotten.... history will repeat iteslf.... the greatest minds knowledge fade or are eventually plagerzed..... your good deeds will be forgotten and only give you a fleeting temporary reward . your learned teachings are forgotten or mutated..... your gold is transfered back to the rullers that rule you through deception. Your grave will grow over . This is truth .

Trancsend your egoism and free yourself from this dominion of satan. Understand you are a sinner and part of the collective problem of this worldly matrix... Repent.... Repent means knowing (to change) The Holy spirit (within) will convict you beyond what you think you can do by yourself. Grace is given to those who renounce the world. That are" in" the world but not "of " the world.

Evidence follows faith. Faith does not follow evidence..... Faith above reason in Jesus Christ.

Faith comes by Reading or Hearing the word of god from the bible . Ask Jesus in faith for dicernment and start reading the new testament... You will be shocked when you lay down your preconceived notions and ....see and hear truth ... see how christ sets an example ... feel the truth....

    Read Ecclesiastes. Read corinthians.

You cant trancend your own egoism by adapting a world philosophy to suit your needs. Seek the truth in Christ.

Sell all your cleverness and purchase true bewilderment. You don't get what you want ....you get what you are in christ.

I promise this has been the truth for me. In Jesus christ .

Think of what you really have to lose. ...your ego?

Break the Matrix of illusion that holds your senses captive.

once you do . you too will have the wisdom of God that comes only through the Holy Spirit. Saved By grace through Faith. Just like seeing a new colour.... can't explain it to a transient caught in the matrix of worldly deception.
You will also see how the world suppresses this information and distorts it

You're all smart people . I tell the truth. Its hard to think out of the box when earthly thinking is the box.
I'ts a personal free experience you can do it free anytime . Don't wait till you are about to die.. START PUTTING YOUR TREASURES WHERE THEY REALLY MATTER >
Its awsome and It's just between you and Jesus

    my testimony

It would be silly to think that 99% of people now days who read your post would believe what you are saying..but I do, bcause I know it"s true as well. Until someone makes a sincere move to understand the things you have written.. they will remain blind to the truth..tha'ts just the way it is.. This world is like a viel or curtain coverning the truth..it's amazing to read some of the things written in the bible and see the world taking shape just as it says.. in the last days.. we are in the last days , nations will rise against nations, war, famine, pestilence, disease , financial collapse, one world system, it's all unfolding and people are more concerned about "themselves" and that's what it all comes down to in respect to Christ.. our own selfish and deranged focus on what pleases us .. but the most revealing thing of all is the great "turning away" in which people will totally reject God ... like they do here on this board...the truth is out there..but they choose to foloow thier own paths and it's a very wide path...so we have been told..

What a sick, perverted creature you are. I have one question for ya: why do likes repel and opposites attract in electricity and in nature? Answer that one, fairy.

      @ very few places...
This is NOT a Christ centered nation. This nation is spiritually anemic and sick in her soul! American Christianity has gone untested until now, and what we see is a consequence of a long slumber, while satan planted a little leaven, which overtook and corrupted almost whole body!
But God has His remnant, and they will not bow to the pressure of the world , flesh and the devil!
The times to come will test faith and loyalty of many. And no, there will be no early exit like so many have been told.
Satan never promotes a false doctrine unless he has something in it for himself. So its with this one... But God's true people will overcome because the love of Truth will sustain them!

Prism, not only is this not a Christ-centered nation, it's not supposed to be one. The founding fathers were very clear about that, no matter how much the fundamentalist right tries to muddy the historical waters.

Hey TommyIT, its not a Christian nation and not suppose to be? DENY THESE FACTS.

"Just walk into the Rotunda (of the U.S. Capitol)," he said. "In the Rotunda, there are four paintings hanging on the wall. In those four paintings, you have two prayer meetings, a Bible study, and a baptism. That's just while walking into the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol!"

Besides reference to God in the Washington Monument, the Capitol, and the Lincoln Memorial, God's name was mentioned at the National Archives, Senate and House Office Buildings, the U.S. Supreme Court, the Jefferson Memorial, and the Library of Congress.

In the main reading room of the Library of Congress, there was a bronze statue of Moses holding The Ten Commandments.
On the ceiling, a painting called "Judea," showed a young Israeli woman raising her hands in prayer to God. There were also Bible quotes on the walls.

"The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament showeth His handiwork," it reads. And, down the hallway in the main lobby, two Gutenberg Bibles were on display.
In the National Archives, there was a bronze medallion on the floor, and right at the top of it were The Ten Commandments, front and center.

At the Jefferson Memorial, God's name was mentioned numerous times, including the famous Jefferson quote, "God Who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God?"

At the Lincoln Memorial, words like "Nation Under God", "Bible" and "Pray" were inscribed everywhere in the building stones.
In the Senate and House Office Buildings there was a plaque that read "In God We Trust."

At the Washington Monument, the CBN News team managed to fit inside the dark stairway.

Almost 200 carved plaques, donated by the states, hung in the stairway. Many of them displayed scripture verses from the

Bible and quotes such as, "Search the Scriptures" and "Holiness to the Lord."

      Have some facts;

On the outside aluminum tip, a Latin phrase was inscribed that read, "Laus Deo," which means "Praise Be To God."

At the U.S. Supreme Court Building, The Ten Commandments were located in several different places including on the carved stone frieze on the front of the building.

The statue showed Moses leaning his arm on The Ten Commandments. The commandments are also on the wall above the judge's courtroom bench.

Even with all these references to God in the federal buildings, there are some judges who say God and government do not go together.

Scenes like The Ten Commandments monument in Alabama were being rolled away out of sight. But the reality is, God's name is chiseled in stone all around, and that is something that can not be disregarded.
Sometimes, you just can't argue with the evidence.

The A-C-L-U and other groups may try to remove God from the public square, but what they can't remove is the undeniable fact that the U.S. was born on the principles of Almighty God and the pictures are there to prove it.

      @ Frank

Wasn't Moses Jewish? Maybe the USA is a Jewish nation, since there are all those representations of the ten commandments.

Frank, Frank, Frank: its over. We have gay rights, we have gay marriage. We will always be here. The contest is over. We won. You lost. You've missed the boat. Learn to live with it.
