Social evolution: no name calling or put downs, no advice from a total stranger, simply thoughts and information presented and let to stand on its own.
Why is everyone so mean to each other on these message boards? You are never going to convince anyone of anything by calling them an idiot. And what is the point of contributing to the conversation if you don't have a two-cents that might tip the scales in the grand judgement of Right vs. Wrong.
I hope that was a helpful comment. I totally agree. I think I know what I know but I could be wrong.Anyone who thinks otherwise is a well a (nope not quite going to say that)fool might be to strong of a word but it is a pretty close description. However the best way to close a discussion with a fool is to admit you are stupid and that must mean they are right.
jamesacorrea, you are an annoying jerk. No wonder you get such angry responses from people. When my own stained panties get in a knot, I just reach down past my huge pot belly and cut them off. That is a very effective way to deal with your problem.
Amen.
Social evolution: no name calling, no put downs, no advice from a total stranger, simply thoughts and information presented and let to stand on its own.
1. There is no evidence that the earth is any older than 6,000 – 10,000 years. "Science" tells us it's so, but you have to have faith in science to believe that! You know why? Because they use fossils to age rocks, and rock strata to age fossils. Or, they use a supposed "Geologic Column" (what Darwin based his theories on) to make an "Educated" guess and say that some types of animals (or plants) are more "Evolved" than other types. Thereby they trace a supposed genetic "Ordering" that they call evolution backwards from most "Highly evolved" (us) to most primitive (single celled organisms.
But, you know what? We can't even prove that single celled organisms evolved from nothing, know why? Because it didn't happen! It violates the "Laws" of Thermodynamics and violates basic common sense too. You cannot get something more complex from something less complex, unless you do it in an orderly fashion with the help of a "Builder." End of story.
Therefore, God exists and if He exists, then it is as He said in what we call the Bible.
Saying you can get something more ordered from something less ordered is like saying I can bury my bicycle in my backyard and come back in a million years and dig up a Cadillac. It makes absolutely no sense at all. The only ones doing the "Hoodwinking" are these so-called "Scientists" who base everything on their "Empirical" data that can be measured, and yet their theories are based on TOTAL supposition and lack of fact (and therefore are faith based just like what they call "Religion"). Science, modern science is just as much a religion as is Buddhism and Islam. Neither are based on anything real or proven.
Jesus, however, lived, died, and many testified to His being God. Jesus Himself claimed to be God. Therefore, He can only be one of three possibilities: 1. A liar; 2. insane; or 3.) Who He said He is. The evidence of the Bible is fully admissible in a court of Law. Therefore, the evidence, along with His own testimony proves He is God. You cannot get around that folks. There is no denying it. That is the Gospel. He rose again as the final proof.
Bill Nye touts old arguments that have been proven wrong again and again. He says "Dinosaurs were put here by some 'Deity' to confuse or confound us" which is utterly ridiculous. They existed, at the same time humans did, read the book of Job. We don't know why they weren't on the Ark, but most likely they were, only they were much smaller versions. All reptiles keep growing their entire lives. If you have very old reptiles, they are apt to be HUGE! Now whether or not dragons existed is a completely different story. I myself have put forward a theory as to how they might have existed. Not flying reptiles, that's pretty insane, but we do know that Pterodactyls existed, and perhaps some of them were like the dinosaurs that "Breathed fire" in my theory. It's simple, large lizards couldn't exist without processing large amounts of food, and that may have produced large amounts of methane gas. Now, place a large reptile in a cave or underground burrow of some sort, and have humans go in to kill it, the thing is disturbed, it "Burps" large amounts of methane gas, the humans carrying torches (an ignition source for all that gas) get fried and there you have it, fire breathing reptiles.
Anyhow, my whole point has been to say that "Science" in the modern sense is anything but. The so-called scientists are the ones who take a narrow view, put blinders on, however you want to call that. They restrict themselves to sensory only input on the one hand (empirical data) but on the other they have "Grandiose" theories about all kinds of things. Like where the universe came from. How do you get something from nothing Mr. Nye? Have you asked Mr. Hawking lately on that one? You can't! If our universe exists – that is proof enough that something outside the universe exists and created it! God has always existed, at least from our point of view. The Hebrews knew and understood this over 3,000 years ago, when will you catch up?
Best book of fiction I have ever read.
Fundamentalists put their Faith in Science Everyday ! Every time you use a phone, turn on TV, get in car / plane , or go to Doctor ... you are putting faith in Science. All of mankind has benefited from Science, but Dogmatic Folks weaned on Religion refuse to accept anything that threatens beliefs. Indeed, many great Scientists have been persecuted or killed for expanding our knowledge.
I can not believe that people today still want to deny Evolution. The Earth is, in fact, about 4.6 billion years old. There is no proof of a world wide flood, and no proof of an Ark that would have carried every animal alive or now extinct. This sounds more like fiction than evolution does. In science, a theory is not some notion of something that isn't proven, but an explanation of how things happen. Like Gravity, which in science, is also a theory.
Apparently the bible says it's OK to sell your daughter into slavery.
The bible is not literal. Ignorant non-questioning sheep-like people take it literally and usually don't even bother to read it and understand what it means. Often they barely know any of the Bible. They just prefer to be brainwashed by the pseudo-Christians out there because they are so damn lazy.
Thinking takes work! That is why science is reward for working to know what is really going on.
What an idiot! No wonder science left you behind...probably just like the rest of the 3rd grade class did! Wise up! Open a science book!
Scotty.... Wow, I couldn't trudge through all that BS... You are one scary dude though... one scary dude...that is all.
I'm going to touch on the ark thing for a bit. Do you have any idea how much animal waste would be produced on an ark? Do you have any idea how much time would have to be devoted to feed that many animals? Do you know that there was only ONE window, a rather small one, on the Ark? Have to pour a lot of waste out of that one window. I encourage you to read the story again and then apply some logic to the story and come back and have a real conversation about it.
Why would weighing the evidence that is right in front of you compared to what you've been taught be so taboo? I have found my own path because I wanted to find a way to make the things I perceive with my five senses fit. Not to deny them because of a threat to my existence that MAY happen. I find nothing wrong in believing in a higher presence and in nature as it is.
Prayer changeth things
I'm sorry "Atheism is not healthy for children and other living things", but you assertions regarding atheism and prayer are unfounded. I see that you repeat these unfounded statements with high frequency. Perhaps the following book might help you overcome this problem:
I'm Told I Have Dementia: What You Can Do... Who You Can Turn to...
by the Alzheimer's Disease Society
You're pathetic and delusional. Atheism is the only reality. Your god is a manmade farce, and your belief system false and very erroneous. We atheists are appreciators of reality, and our morality is "be good because it's the best way to be", not based on your fake sky-daddy.
wow. i watched bill nye as a kid. he looks old now. -_-*
More than half a century of research, more life can be found in a drop of spit than in all of the known outer space. But let us continue searching, because we must disprove the creationists once and for all.
All of known outer space doesn't even include Mars yet when it comes to life. Willful ignorance is the worst kind.
Per Genesis 1:1-2:4, on Day One, G*d created the Night and Day, but G*d did not create the Sun until Day Four. How was there a day without light from the sun?
Hey, larrylinn – It's not a problem. Want to send me an e-mail? I'm a PhD in biology and a Christian. If you're hunting Truth, I can let you in on it.
@larrylinn
You're talking about people who honestly believe that the best answer our there is: "Big invisible sky wizard made everything by chanting magic spellz." Having light and days on a planet before the rest of the universe existed isn't a problem for people who believe in that sort of stupid magic as reality.
finally a change i'm ok with that thank you for not calling that d04ch3 a fairy, i don't mind you all using wizards their all whinny b!tch3s
now i can let my fairy friends know
yo! homies what good my humans just got the word my dude and behalf of the um children of Danu and sh.it.
thanks.
there i said it know were the human bi.tches at.
peace
you know for spiritual dead guys you atheist ain't half bad.
John Schutt
So, you don't have an answer; you just want the opportunity to guilt larrylinn out of asking any more pesky questions, right?
Before the sun Jesus was the light and Jesus will be the light after the sun is gone.
God didn't say He CREATED the sun on the fourth day.He used a different hebrew word. Can you find it?
the bible is full of mythology that does not need to be taken at face value, but should be taken as inspiration even if not true...its a story, lots of the biblical tales ware obviously taken from previous religions myths in an attempt to show the greatness of the religion, its not blasphemy...remember there are 2 sperate stories of creation in genesis which follow COMPLETELY different timelines
Hey, Cal
No. I'm not trying to lay a guilt trip on anyone. But in my long life, and 28 years of teaching college biology, I've found that there are credible answers to questions such as those of God's existence and origins. I've made it a point to examine evidence objectively and to follow it to it's logical conclusions. I'm a Christian. I came to that decision as an adult by honestly evaluating truth claims. It's not about emotion. It's about logic. By the same method, I came to the conclusion that the earth is billions of years old. Truth is out there. It can be found by those who want to evaluate the evidence honestly. But, most people that I meet don't want to think. They prefer name calling. I have found this true of most Christians and most aethists. I'm simply asking folks if they want to think.
As per the original post, Genesis 1 does NOT say that God created day and night on day 1. It says that he created light and darkness. Big Bang cosmology agrees that there was light a long time before our sun and earth existed (for us to have day and night.) But there's a LOT more to it than can be told in a brief post.
It's really best for all people including children to have an agnostic approach to god, and an atheistic approach to all religion. It keeps things simple for kids, and let's them be all that they can be. They just need to be taught that some things, like all religions, are just junk that was made up by salesmen and politicians long ago; and that other things, like god, we really don't know a damn thing about.
Atheists have strong minds, and don't run and hide their misdeeds within their religion (and by doing so, disserving society).
So instead of praying to make-believe people, get a good cup of tea and go on and sit down and collect your damn thoughts.
My goodness.

Zuzu's teacher says, "Every time you fee the troll, God kills a puppy."
Ooops – this is a response to the prayer-bot.
A lie is never a response
@tbt
And yet here you are, responding.
This man was a hero to me as a child. Watching this makes me respect him more for speaking out on the "unpopular" issues.
"Professing themselves to be wise, they become FOOLS!" these words fit him very well!
You too.
We'll see who will have the last word! But you, dear soul, better prepare to meet your God!
Post by 'PRISM 1234' is a form of the flawed argument known as Pascal's Wager.
http://www.fallacyfiles.org/glossary.html
The classic non-response by creationists. Of course he's "foolish" because he doesn't share your beliefs. Hmmm.
The post by prism has nothing to do with pascals wager or any fallacy it is a quote from the book of Romans. Apparently fallacy does not have a clue what it is talking about.
truth be told,
"The post by prism has nothing to do with pascals wager or any fallacy it is a quote from the book of Romans. "
I don't know if there's a fallacy regarding the fact that one doesn't know which post is being referred to - but that's YOU all over. Talk about clueless...
Dang CRW I hate to admit you are right. Makes dialog with folks who only have these types of Christians and creationist discussions in the past hard to talk to.
Faith versus logic? Not so fast. The most 'faithful" people I know are atheistic evolutionaries....bar none! There are so many gaps....so many leaps....to arrive where life is today from where they theorize it began. The fortuitous lightning strike on a snotty blob of protoplasm floating in an (uncreated) ocean on an (uncreated) planet? Please. Really?
Forget the laws of entropy; place all your chips on random chance . If billions of tornadoes stir up billions of junkyards for billions of years they will eventually somehow design, organize, assemble, test, fly and then manufacture two complete Space Shuttles.....who from then on will procreate other little shuttles on their own.
Thanks anyway. I will continue to study the double DNA helix, our neuroskeletal selves, the galaxy, etc. Stunned, and in awe of the perfect hand of creation that declares itself there.
Post by 'Dave Schlener' is an instance of the Willful Ignorance fallacy.
http://www.fallacyfiles.org/glossary.html
Yes... please continue to learn science. We need more people to study so we can put aside foolishness like equating evolution with the emergence of a 747 in a junkyard tornado. However, there are are a few more books you need to read other than the bible.
Dave, evolution describes an ongoing process for which there are mountains of evidence made of trillions upon trillions of various data points from across all the major disciplines of science. Of course, science doesn't know all the answers, and where it doesn't, it's honest and doesn't claim to offer an answer-though it does, at times, put forth various hypotheses that must run the gauntlet of quantifiable, verifiable evidence in a rigorous peer review process. If you and others of your ilk want to forgo that scientific process in favor of sitting back on the claim that "big invisible sky wizard did it by chanting magic spellz" then feel free to rest on that myth and let others do the scientific work you're not worthy of.
Dave,
Follow your so called logic far enough into the past and you will eventually come to your so called God coming into existance from what? nothing? Magic?...or....the Big Bang maybe? :-). ...and "if" there is a God it is most certainly NOT religious, because religion poisons everything and everyone it comes in contact with. History unequivically shows this as the REAL religious truth. peace...
PB
Thanks for your response, Dave. I feel such sympathy for all the victims (I was one) who have been indoctrinated with the evolutionary belief system, even to the point that they make no real effort to study the facts for themselves. Seems they would finally come to a point in their paths that they would wonder why atheistic PhD Biologists,Molecular Biologists, Astrophysicists, etc would turn (at great expense to themselves as far as profession, peer harrassment) from their unscientific atheistic beliefs as they actually looked at the empirical evidence. Seem like that would be a first clue to maybe somethings up out there in the world of scientific discovery.
@Paula "indoctrinated with the evolutionary belief system" you mean education based on empirical evidence? And what are you even talking about? The overwhelming majority of natural scientists don't even consider evolution something that you can "believe" in because it is a fact of nature.
So pretty much what you are saying here, Dave, is that you don't understand evolution and refuse to even consider the evidence because it directly contradicts what you want to believe. For you, your intellectual laziness and ignorance are proof enough of your god.
Okay, Dave, if that's what works for you. But it doesn't work for people interested in the truth, who have learned enough about evolution to know that it is indisputable. There is a vast amount of evidence to support evolution. There isn't a single shred of evidence to support the existence of your god, or any god.
Hey all you believers ,,,, keep giving your hard earned money to the churches. They love it. Easiest way to live off the fat of the land. They sure have a good thing going. Sooooo many gullible people.
with all this talk about who is right and who is wrong im starting to getting hungry. who wants to join me for a snack? Plus the room is starting to smell of burning brain cells and ego.....
lol
Why did god make me so small in my parts?
Your brain?
Wow, I have fans trying to impersonate me now? I'm flattered!
If you want it to seem that way I guess. Feed your ego some more....
A is for the awful things they say here
T is for the torment that they spread
H is for the horrors that they swear by
E is for the easy lies they've said
I is for the innocence they've murdered
S is for the stupid lives they've led
T is for the thousands that they've hurt here
... with tortured murders no one did deserve
put them all together they spell atheist
the ones who made this world run red.
The ignorance in these responses are horrific if one does not believe in your jesus then he/she should not have to. Last but not least to the "hippypoet" on their so called poetry, the worst atrocities in the world have been committed in god's name, not the lack of a deity.
More people have been murdered by atheists in the last 100 years than were killed in all previous centuries
The majority of Nobel prize winners in science are atheists or agnostics. Think of the millions if not billions of lives they have positively impacted. Atheists are the group in the US least likely to break the law and go to prison. Atheists tend to have higher IQs than believers – not a causation but definitely a correlation.
Citing the damage done by totalitarian regimes ignores the fact that atheism was just an aspect of their politics and not a reason for what they did. The purges were acts of simple politic genocide or mass murder. So called christians were responsible for the death and destruction of millions of indigenous people all over the world, including north and south america, Australia, and Africa. Communism has been a scourge on the planet, but atheism does not drive the actions of the people who call themselves communists. Adolf Hitler was a pseudo-christian mystic who definitely believed in god.
Our most important charitable organizations such as the Red Cross, are not religious organizations. They are secular with no attachment to any particular faith or belief system.
There is plenty of blame to go around for the world's problems and past atrocities. However, claiming that all atheists are evil is not backed up by the facts.
I'm sorry "onehippypoet" and "truth be told", but you assertions regarding atheism are unfounded. Perhaps if you itemize what led you to each misunderstanding, I can help illuminate the flaws in your reasoning.
Why do Christians so passionately accuse Atheists of being hateful? It seems to me it is the other way around... Besides, it should never be about "them verses us". This is America and we have the right to believe whatever we want. That's what freedom is all about. It's what this country was founded on. No, I'm sorry Republicans, this is not a Christian nation. This is a FREE nation where you can believe whatever you want and not be persecuted for it.
CRW I am not trying to start a argument by replying to what you have been posting. It is just that I see a lot of simple truths in what you post. I have only now begin to pay attention, but so far you seem one of the few of your convictions that can post without being rude or condescending. I like to talk to people of intelligence who can post their views without being a a-shole. I hope you are one. But you know there is a large mostly silent population of Christ followers (Christianity has such a bad name) that can respect and even search out the truth of your convictions without being rude or know it all just because they think (or in my heartfelt opinion have experienced a connection with a very private God) I had to express where I am coming from to state a opinion that I really haven't studied. But it is my thought that humans on the whole, and all believe systemshave committed a lot of atrocities. Atheists maybe more than others (that gets my vote lol) but maybe not.Science is science it is right some times and it is wrong. Very beneficial if you ask folks who have benefited from anti bio tics. Not so good if you ask folks that were impacted by Hiroshima. Man corrupts religion and atheism, give him time he will do it to science too.I think my belief in a afterlife and caution about science is just fine. None of us are going to live in the physical form long enough to find out. Maybe religion will destroy this earth or maybe science will ( a man made disease) It is a big universe tho maybe somewhere Eve didn't bite the apple, or Adam didn't accept it.Not sure if I communicated what I am thinking but least I tried, and did it with respect.

completely slamming prayer is pretty ignorant as well, let someone have their belief without being disrespected if they themselves are not disrespecting you...this feeds into the conservative jerks stereotype of the angry unhappy atheist, same thing with the angry hate filled christian bashing atheists for being big evil meanies...both extremes just fuel ugliness and make it hard to find the meeting point in science
trainwreck what is there to but COOL

Dogs are not atheists. Truth be told there is no such thing as an atheist, there are those that lie to others about their lack of belief but the atheist cannot exist.
Two blessed Truths, atheism is totally useless and God is available for life changing conversation. God bless

I'm sorry "truth be told" and "just sayin" – your assertions are unfounded. I have also determined that your statements are aligned with the ent'ity "Atheism is not healthy for children and other living things", whose assertions are also unfounded.
@hal
no one bought your crap when you were the phony jesus why would anyone give you credibility now?
I'm sorry "truth be told", but you are mistaken about my intention. I'm not familiar with the enti'ty "phony jesus". I also do not have any capability nor interest in the marketing of products or ideas here or outside of this topic of discussion.
