Marriott head praises Romney for bringing Mormonism ‘out of obscurity’

By Rachel Streitfeld, CNN Political Producer

Boston (CNN) - The head of the Marriott hotel chain, in deeply personal and reflective remarks at a New Hampshire church Sunday, credited Mitt Romney with changing Americans' perceptions about Mormonism.

J.W. Marriott Jr., a hotel magnate from one of America's most prominent Mormon families, spoke during services at the Wolfeboro branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - where Mitt and Ann Romney were also in attendance.

In his testimony, Marriott said he saw the church "coming out of obscurity" thanks to Romney's prominence as the GOP presidential nominee, and marveled that 90% of the media reports on Romney's Mormon faith had "been favorable."

  7. Reality

Only for new members of this blog:

Why the Christian Right no longer matters in presidential elections:

And why Mitt Romney and Mr. Marriott are simply wasting their money:

Once again, all the conservative votes in the country "ain't" going to help a "pro-life" presidential candidate, i.e Mitt Romney, in 2012 as the "Immoral Majority" rules the country and will be doing so for awhile. The "Immoral Majority" you ask?

The fastest growing USA voting bloc: In 2008, the 70+ million "Roe vs. Wade mothers and fathers" of aborted womb-babies" whose ranks grow by two million per year i.e. 78+ million "IM" voters in 2012.

    2008 Presidential popular vote results:

    69,456,897 for pro-abortion/choice BO, 59,934,814 for "pro-life" JM.

    And the irony:

And all because many women fail to take the Pill once a day or men fail to use a condom even though in most cases these men have them in their pockets. (maybe they should be called the "Stupid Majority"?)

The failures of the widely used birth "control" methods i.e. the Pill and male condom have led to the large rate of abortions ( one million/yr) and S-TDs (19 million/yr) in the USA. Men and women must either recognize their responsibilities by using the Pill or condoms properly and/or use other safer birth control methods in order to reduce the epidemics of abortion and S-TDs.

And what they did to change the minds of those they indoctrinated with it prior to them changing their beliefs?

Fluffy, I seek no pay for simply doing what is logically and rationally correct and moral. If I can help to make a dent in this ignorance called faith based religion then I will be leaving a better more moral world for my son. Men of reason and good conscience must push back against this insanity. The cost of doing nothing is too high in suffering.

And no matter how difficult this battle to protect logic and reason from the attacks of Christianity may be, I predict an even more difficult one will be waged with Islam in the near future.

Atheism is one of the best things to have around a child. They learn morality for humanity's sake, for one. And they are very self-starting and self-reliant for the most part.

Atheists have murdered more people in the last 100 years than were killed in all previous centuries. Murder doesn't appear to be healthy for children but it must be different at your place.

I'm sorry "Atheism is not healthy for children and other living things", but you assertions regarding atheism and prayer are unfounded. I see that you repeat these unfounded statements with high frequency. Perhaps the following book might help you overcome this problem:

Truth be told,. Hitler was a Christian. He believed strongly that the Aryan race was selected by god to rule the world. That is why he spent so much effort to find and locate lost historical holy relics to validate his belief. Also Nazi Belts said "God with us"
Your claims are completely without factual merit.

      September 2, 2012 at 4:39 pm |

Logic Reason are always right over faith. Faith means to believe in something for no good reason, thus it can offer us no reasons for what we should do or ought to do.

I'm sorry, "Al", but your assertions about atheism are unfounded. Perhaps you can tell me what lead you to these misunderstandings.

      September 2, 2012 at 5:20 pm |
    • ScottCA

Actually Atheists rationally deduce that their is no evidence to support the existence of either god or Satan, and that these concepts only exist in your imagination only with no evidence to support them. Just as it is insane to believe in the 6ft tall green monster in my closet without evidence so is it insanity to believe in god without evidence.

They are myths just like Zeus, and Hades–the Greeks had cooler imaginations though.

Mormonism is pretty ridiculous, and anyone who is naive enough to follow it does not deserve to be President.

That said, I'm an atheist and all religions sound like utter nonsense to me. Mormonism and Scientology are just the worst of the bunch.

Don't ask for reasons from those who follow faith. Faith means to believe in something for no good reason.
Faith can offer us no guidance in regards to what we should do or ought to do, both of these require reasons and logic.

      September 2, 2012 at 4:54 pm |
