What really enrages Muslims? Twitter knows

By Richard Allen Greene, CNN

What really enrages Muslims?

Having a really good hair day - but no one knows because you wear a hijab.

Not being able to say "Hi" to your friend Jack in a plane - or to call out for your nephew when he gets lost in an airport because his name is "Jihad."

The 72 virgins all turn out to be male.

The tongue-in-cheek answers are part of an explosion of sharply satirical responses on Twitter to a Newsweek magazine cover showing Muslim men in turbans and keffiyahs, apparently rioting, under the banner all caps headline "MUSLIM RAGE."

Thousands of Muslims have made fun of the magazine headline since Monday, when it published a long article by the Somali-born writer Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a former Muslim who describes herself as a "combatant in the clash of civilizations."

She links this month's protests against an online film making fun of the Muslim prophet Mohammed - which have resulted in several deaths around the world, including that of the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens - to the reaction in 1989 against Salman Rushdie's novel "The Satanic Verses."

"In 23 years not much has changed," Ali argues. "Islam's rage reared its ugly head again last week.

"The American ambassador to Libya and three of his staff members were murdered by a raging mob in Benghazi, Libya, possibly under the cover of protests against a film mocking the Muslim Prophet Muhammad," Ali writes.

Newsweek's cover puts Ali herself at the heart of the story about "Muslim rage," with the sub-heading: "How I survived it. How we can end it."

Ali, a sharp critic of Islamist violence and of what she sees as Europe's limp response to it, claims that the rioters represent mainstream Muslim views.

"The Muslim men and women (and yes, there are plenty of women) who support - whether actively or passively - the idea that blasphemers deserve to suffer punishment are not a fringe group. On the contrary, they represent the mainstream of contemporary Islam," she argues.

The "many Muslims and ex-Muslims" who "unambiguously condemn" the murders and riots "are marginalized and all too often indirectly held responsible for the very provocation."

But by Tuesday morning, on Twitter at least, far from being marginalized, those Muslims were relentlessly making fun of Newsweek and Ali.

One tweet showed the magazine cover doctored to make the rioting Muslim men look like glam rockers, replacing the headline with "Muslim Rave."

Remi Kanzai riffed on the same theme: "Just add nighttime & glow sticks. It goes from #MuslimRage to #MuslimRave."

Some of the more serious tweets dealt with the discrimination Muslims feel at airports: "When a 'female assist' is called before I even walk through the metal detector."

But many kept the mood light, complaining about work, family, Islamic restrictions on eating pork and drinking wine, or fasting during Ramadan.

"The Dark Knight Rises came out in Ramadan," one complained.

And some aimed their barbs directly at the writer of the provocative piece.

"Whaaaaat?!" Megh demanded. "Ayaan Hirsi Ali doesn't have an active Twitter account?!"

What angers the Muslims is disrespect.
When you treat someone with respect you as well might expect that in return. Islam recognizes Jesus as one of the prophets of God and bears the greatest respect for him and Virgin Mary. I know ignorance makes people say stupid things but as many problems it has a solution: reading and learning!!!!
Muslims will never say anything bad about the Holy Books or about the prophets because all of them are part of Islam and it's teachings.
The problems are created by people not by religions. What is a fact is that ignorant, not very smart people are all over the world and in all religions, and what makes this worse is that their voices are the loudest.
I am a Muslim, a computer programmer, a woman that does not wear a veil and I am not the only one that shares these thoughts.
I urge you to step out of your little world, talk with some normal Muslim people and read some.

Anger should not be equated with rioting and violence. We are all free to feel anger in feelings and words–this is a given in free countries. If Jews erupted into rage and violent demonstrations every time they were denigrated and disrespected, there wouldn't be a moment of silence anywhere, anytime.

Please tell me then how many embassies were raided and Ambassadors killed when an image of Jesus was displayed in a vial of pee? Sculpted with poo?

Was their any outrage at all from the Muslims? Nope...

Blaming a sham movie as an excuse to act like animals shows the truth behind Islam.

The UTTER STUPIDITY of the west is, they import these people by the boat loads (all displaced people (strangely they only seem to be Muslims!) in Syria, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya making their way into Europe via Turkey the facilitator in chief!), and Pakistani Muslims Hazaras into Australia (via friendly Indonesia and Malaysia!), and Bangladeshi Muslims into India, Burma all seeking asylum.

And, once they are provided asylum we all know how the tables turn, it's the oppression of Muslims by these host nations!

Even though our own DIE-HARD Islamic supporter CNN's Mr.FAREED ZAKARIA sings never ending praises of the Arab Spring, and the economic miracles of Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, NOT to talk of the rich MErn Sheikhdoms (while taunting the west for their failing economies!!!), none of these Muslims find it attractive to stay on in those nations (or are they not allowed to???).

This problem will never end until the tap is shut off!

And, the US is ONLY NOW waking up to this issue.......Many Many thanks to people like FAREED ZAKARIA.......and, that's called SILENT JIHAD, destroying Western Civilization from within!

The GREATEST IRONY is NOT only are the western countries EXPECTED (by Islamic Supporters like CNN's Mr.FAREED ZAKARIA & others) to provide asylum & dole to Muslims oppressed in MUSLIM COUNTRIES themselves,

BUT once in, Western nations need to protect their OWN CITIZENS against these marauding Muslims everytime their beliefs are hurt by somone's actions IN ANY CORNER OF THE WORLD!!!!!

Ok it's fair to make fun of muslims as well as christians. I am NOT an anti-semite and I am an atheist, and I hate the blatant hypocrisy of making fun of all religions except the jewish one. Can you imagine a #JewishRage with similar jokes? How would the media react?

I think this is completely wrong.

For example, Einstein was not an aetheist but a Deist.

Let's keep the truth and the facts correct. It is the best weapon against ignorance especially to islam.

What instigated the attack on the Twin Towers, Flight 93 and the Pentagon?

And what drives today's 24/7 mosque/imam-planned acts of terror and horror?

The koran, Mohammed's book of death for all infidels and Muslim domination of the world by any means.

Muslims must clean up this book removing said passages admitting that they are based on the Gabriel myth and therefore obviously the hallucinations and/or lies of Mohammed.

Then we can talk about the safety and location of mosques and what is taught therein.

Until then, no Muslim can be trusted anytime or anywhere..................................

Who said muslims had anything to do with the attacks on the Twin Towers, Flight 93, or the Pentagon? Did the tv tell you that? Oh wait...you must have seen when the news reported finding the terrorists passports in the rubble of the twin towers. Or maybe you saw the report when they found the terrorist passports in the rubble of Flight 93. Sure there's no bodies...or wreckage...but the passports miraculously survived. Do yourself a favor...research the families of the victims of Flight 93. In fact, look up Deena Burnett specifically. All I seem to find is phony acting and doctored photographs. Most kids have 5 fingers...strange how in some of their family photos, the kids only have 4 fingers. Definitely not doctored.

      As noted previously:

o Islam gives women almost no rights and treats them like fodder for the male species as so bluntly noted by Aya-an Hi-rsi Ali in her autobiography, In-fidel.

"Thus begins the extraordinary story of a woman born into a family of desert nomads, circu-mcised as a child, educated by radical imams in Kenya and Saudi Arabia, taught to believe that if she uncovered her hair, terrible tragedies would ensue. It's a story that, with a few different twists, really could have led to a wretched life and a lonely death, as her grandmother warned. But instead, Hi-rsi Ali escaped – and transformed herself into an internationally renowned spokeswoman for the rights of Muslim women."

      ref: Washington Post book review.

      some excerpts:

"Some of the Saudi women in our neighborhood were regularly be-aten by their husbands. You could hear them at night. Their scre-ams resounded across the courtyards. "No! Please! By Allah!"

"The Pakistanis were Muslims but they too had cas-tes. The Untou-chable girls, both Indian and Pakistani were darker skin. The others would not play with them because they were unt-ouchable. We thought that was funny because of course they were tou-chable: we to-uched them see? but also hor-rifying to think of yourself as un-touchable, des-picable to the human race."

"Between October 2004 and May 2005, eleven Muslim girls were ki-lled by their families in just two regions (there are 20 regions in Holland). After that, people stopped telling me I was exa-ggerating."

"The kind on thinking I saw in Saudi Arabia and among the Brotherhood of Kenya and Som-alia, is incompatible with human rights and liberal values. It preserves the feu-dal mind-set based on tr-ibal concepts of honor and shame. It rests on self-deception, hypro-cricy, and double standards. It relies on the technologial advances of the West while pretending to ignore their origin in Western thinking. This mind-set makes the transition to modernity very painful for all who practice Islam".

    Prayer changes things .

Prayer does not; you are such a LIAR. You have NO proof it changes anything! A great example of prayer proven not to work is the Christians in jail because prayer didn't work and their children died. For example: Susan Grady, who relied on prayer to heal her son. Nine-year-old Aaron Grady died and Susan Grady was arrested.

An article in the Journal of Pediatrics examined the deaths of 172 children from families who relied upon faith healing from 1975 to 1995. They concluded that four out of five ill children, who died under the care of faith healers or being left to prayer only, would most likely have survived if they had received medical care.

The statistical studies from the nineteenth century and the three CCU studies on prayer are quite consistent with the fact that humanity is wasting a huge amount of time on a procedure that simply doesn’t work. Nonetheless, faith in prayer is so pervasive and deeply rooted, you can be sure believers will continue to devise future studies in a desperate effort to confirm their beliefs!!
