I'm actually surprised at all the hate for Joel Osteen here. I've watched his shows in the mornings and didn't think he was that bad of a guy. He is sending the right message, and he's trying to reach a large audience. God is obviously helping him with that, because just before his booming success he was at the point where he'd have to give up. All of a sudden, everything fell into place for him. I look at him and his wife and though I am probably one of the most leftist, anti-organized religion supporters out there, I don't see anything evil in either of them.
A-s-t-r-o-t-u-r-f much? Come on Joel, we know your name isn't Josie. And wash your plastic-less-than-fantastic hair this decade already. The oil spill is gonna take a big cleanup effort.

Osteen was at a crossroad in his life... Either he was going to be a used car salesman or sell snake oil to the feeble minded.
He chose the job that paid better...

Why ask Osteen anything? Or why go ask the devil for the truth? The guy is a known false teacher and CNN staffers being completely ignorant of religious matter make him appear credible.
From his comments during the interview, it sounds like he appeared on Piers Morgan's show to shill a book.

To me, you seem to be saying that some preachers are OK and can be trusted to tell the truth. Do I understand that correctly?
As an evangelical I assure you Osteen does not speak for me. His "touchy-feely" message is a disgrace and something he will dearly pay for when he stands before God on judgment day! CNN, as the voice for athiests, loves to have him on spouting his "humanism" approach for mankind!

Why in the world anyone would turn to Joel Osteen for his view(s) on this topic beats the crap out of me. I have an IQ between 62 and 65 and even I know baloney when I see it, hear it or read it. This guy is full of baloney piled on top of baloney and I don't think he was even aware that Piers was mocking him live and in front of the world.

It's really best for all people including children to have an agnostic approach to god, and an atheistic approach to all religion. It keeps things simple for kids, and lets them be all that they can be. They just need to be taught that some things, like all religion, were just made up by salesmen and politicians from long ago. (Yes, charlatan folklore and spam started long before the Bible; what would make you think they hadn't?) And they need to be taught that other things, like God, we really don't know a damn thing about.
Atheists have strong minds and don't need a religion. Many religious folk have the best intentions. But too often, religious folk run and hide their misdeeds within their religion (and by doing so, they disserve society). And too often, religious folk are easily offended when someone mocks their make-believe characters – and, as we can see they can get really CRAZY!
Although there are many religious folk with good intentions – some selflessly helping others, religions and religious organizations are, as a whole, just big old clubs – each trying to out do each other and inspiring hate and division (often disguised as love) along the way. The problem is that people too easily buy into religion and don't realize how unfounded it all is. And when they buy into it, they buy into a lot of really old, really weird tenets that are nothing but harmful for the human species.
Take Christianity, for instance. Just look at all the things that Christians argue about amongst themselves today – abortion, men's and women's roles in the church, celibacy, contraception, acceptance of gays, etc. Most of these issues have their roots in the conflicted, unfounded tenets of early Christianity. Non-Mormons harp on Joseph Smith these days. But we really don't have any more proof at all to believe that Paul, the self-proclaimed "apostle" was anything more than an ordinary man who needed to make up religious "sales literature" to survive and spread his own personal beliefs. And yet a good chunk of the NT is attributed to Paul and accepted by many Christians. And a lot of what he wrote about has to do with many of the issues I mentioned above that have Christians fighting amongst themselves hundreds of years later. It's way too unfounded to argue over.
Get a good cup of tea, and sit down and collect your thoughts. If you find it helpful to pray to a god (something you know nothing about), fine. But it is really healthier for the mind to leave behind all the characters that people over the centuries have invented or given powers to, for which there is little or no foundation. Because with those invented characters and powers – that's where division and hate join the little party in your mind. That's where, in your mind, you are inheriting the division and hate from ordinary politicians, lobbyists and salesmen from long ago. My goodness.
A millionare preacher, what else is new. Want to watch somethig really scary? watch one of his services on tv and look at how many people are there just loving it no matter what he says, and all he says is common sense stuff anyway.. you should always look both ways before crossing the road and God shall rewad you by not being run over, amen brothers and sisters... and everybody is like he's so wise he really opened my eyes... scary scary.

Actually, Jesus was a bit "touched". After all he thought he spoke to Satan, thought he changed water into wine, thought he raised Lazarus from the dead etc. In today's world, said Jesus would be declared legally insane.
Or did P, M, M, L and J simply make him into a first century magic-man via their epistles and gospels of semi-fiction? Many contemporary NT experts after thorough analyses of all the scriptures go with the latter magic-man conclusion with J's gospel being mostly fiction.
Obviously, today's followers of Paul et al's "magic-man" are also a bit on the odd side believing in all the Christian mumbo jumbo about bodies resurrecting, and exorcisms, and miracles, and "magic-man atonement, and infallible, old, European/Utah white men, and 24/7 body/blood sacrifices followed by consumption of said sacrifices. I went to a Joel Osteen service once, and never again. The sermon was heavy on feel good fluffy-popcorn theology, and he seemed hung-up on how God would make you financially wealthy as a reward for faith. The church itself was shamelessly glitzy and obviously well-monied. God does not want you to be wealthy, he wants you to love your fellow man, and look out for those less fortunate than yourself; He may want you to be spiritually wealthy, but materialism is putting personal wealth and self before God. Leaving the service, many of the Sunday Christian attendees were very unfriendly and rude...it was a race out of the church parking lot, and to the closest chain restaurant for lunch for these people...and back to their lives of secular false-piety. Mr. Osteen is clearly no Billy Graham, he needs to humble himself, and put on the sackcloth!

Actually..scripture says, "I would that you prosper as your soul prospers!" God has nothing against His believers prospering as long as your SPIRITUAL growth takes first place with Him!
