West Point cadet quits over religionBy Moni Basu, CNN (CNN) – Military development. Academics. Athletics. Three pillars of Army values that cadets at America's most prestigious military academy live by. But West Point cadet Blake Page says there is one other unspoken pillar at the United States Military Academy: religion. That's why, with just five months left before graduation, Page quit. And he did it in a most public fashion – in a fiery blog post. "The tipping point of my decision to resign was the realization that countless officers here and throughout the military are guilty of blatantly violating the oaths they swore to defend the Constitution," wrote Page, 24, in The Huffington Post. "These men and women are criminals, complicit in light of day defiance of the Uniform Code of Military Justice through unconstitutional proselytism, discrimination against the non-religious and establishing formal policies to reward, encourage and even at times require sectarian religious participation. These transgressions are nearly always committed in the name of fundamentalist evangelical Christianity." FULL STORY

But decisive evidence for this phenomenon has proven elusive. New research from a team including Carnegie's Erik Hauri demonstrates that oceanic volcanic rocks contain samples of recycled crust dating back to the Archean era 2.5 billion years ago. Decades before atheist scientist and author Richard Dawkins called God a "delusion," one world-renowned physicist – Albert Einstein – was weighing in on faith matters with his own strong words.
“The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still primitive legends,” Einstein wrote in German in a 1954 letter that will be auctioned on eBay later this month. "No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this.”

Peace
When the Separation of Church and State is flauted, well it's criminal–the runiation of everything. Something MAJOR should be done about this vile state of affairs. When will people realize that this is a PERSONAL realm and I don't care about what YOU believe, and it's MY business what I believe. And don't compare non-believers to believers. Non-believers want to be left alone. Plenty of believers want to be left alone.
Hearing anyone with a gun preach about what their invisible mystical 'creator' "wants" is downright creepy. The christ followers who get all zealous with what THEY "believe" are as much a nuisance as the zealots of Islam and Judaism. 21st century people, fused chromosomes on one of the four great ape species anyone?!!
Interesting that there are just as many zealots on the Athiest religion.

He seems to have had issues before he got to USMA. It took him three and a half years to figure this out? Our military is better off without this type of soldier.
You have no idea what you are talking about. You don't know anything about this guy. Maybe he wouldn't have been a good officer. It wouldn't have anything to do with his religious beliefs though. The military has become a bastion of christian outreach and it has only grown worse. The military is prohibited from endorsing a religion, but that isn't the reality. Lately, they are requiring us to process through the chaplains. It's ridiculous. The Chaplains are supposed to be there to minister to those who are religious. Not to those who aren't. They are also requiring the "spiritual" health tests which are bogus. No one can even define what spiritual means, but if you don't say you believe in a higher power it's off to the counselors.
