Huckabee: Lack of religion in classroom leads to violence in schools

(CNN) - Responding to the deadly mass shooting Friday in Newtown, Connecticut, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said new laws regulating guns won't deter such shootings, linking a lack of religious discussion in the classroom to increased violence in schools.

"We ask why there's violence in our school but we've systematically removed God from our schools," Huckabee said on Fox News. "Should we be so surprised that schools have become such a place of carnage? Because we've made it a place where we don't want to talk about eternity, life, what responsibility means, accountability."

"That we're not just gonna have to be accountable to the police if they catch us but one day we stand before a holy God in judgment. If we don't believe that, then we don't fear that," he said.

"People are going to want to pass new laws," Huckabee continued. "This is a heart issue ... laws don't change this kind of thing."

Yahweh killed 42 children (he had them torn apart and eaten by she-bears) for making fun of Elisha's baldness (2 Kings 2:23-24). In his thirst for blood he also had Jepthah sacrifice his own young daughter to him (Judges 11:35). And don't forget when Moses ordered the army to go back and kill all the (thousands of) little boys and non-virgin females from the tribe of Midian, allowing the soldiers to keep only the virgin girls for their own use (Numbers 31:17-18). Moses here uses the same logic later employed by Heinrich Himmler when he advocated murdering Jewish children. The idea was to kill the boys so they couldn't grow up and seek revenge later. Are these the works of a just god who cares about innocent lives? If the god of the Hebrews and Christians is so great, why did he allow his "chosen people" to be slaughtered by the millions by Christian Germans in the Holocaust? Stop blaming guns, Atheists, and mental disorders for this violence. Ask yourself why was it so easy for a stranger in combat dress to just walk up to a school and get inside? The storage facility where I keep my old semi-worthless junk locked up has far more security than most public schools. Before we tear the 2nd amendment to shreds, maybe we should take a look at making schools SAFER.

"By the fear of the Lord one keeps from evil".. .....Solomon Proverbs 16:6 The wisest man who ever lived, aside from Jesus Christ of course, understood this concept, and wrote it. The "wise" of our day teach just the opposite. Well, how's that working out for ya?

We all know of many men of God who fear the Lord, but did horrible things behind the scene 😉

      LOL, LOL

Well said Sal old buddy!! He is like PR & JB, this conservatives/catholics/preservatives, all they want to do is go to the Vatican an kiss the Pope's ring over and over, time and again. He probably prays the rosary and do hail Marys every day, then goes to Baptist church Sunday morning and in the afternoon goes to the catholic priests to kiss his ring and smooches with the nuns. These are Apostates who believe they can mix oil with vinegar, they eat pork meat and bow before the idols of Rome. He really, really wants to kiss the Pope's ring.

  6. His panic

Now, now, people. Let's not loose Perspective here, let's not loose Faith here and now.

While is true that a horrible crime was committed by the offspring of a Gun Lover. Let's remember and keep in mind that while terrible as it was. There's still a higher percentage and a bigger number of children and people who were kept SAFE by God. If I remember well, it's been said that the school have about 600 to 700 children.

So in either case God protected and kept SAFE more than 600 children plus their teachers and other Personnel in the School. So we should appreciate that, give thanks and Praise God for it. Let's give thanks and Praise God for those first responders, for the Police and firemen, for the neighbors, for the teachers and for the other hundred's of good things that happened that prevented a worst crime. If I go by the numbers of those who were kept SAFE, vs. the number of the victims, then, God won again. Time and again the number of those who are kept SAFE is greater than those who fall victims. So God is still Winning all the time.

So let's pray to God, for Comfort and Strength for the survivors.

    Atheists need not apply.

Your post is the silliest most non-sensical one I have ever read. God protected the other children? How do you know this? So God chose not to protect the ones who died? Or was he incapable of protecting them?

To His Panic: YOU WROTE: " If I go by the numbers of those who were kept SAFE, vs. the number of the victims, then, God won again. Time and again the number of those who are kept SAFE is greater than those who fall victims. So God is still Winning all the time."
So this is a victory for God? Pretty weird stuff mate...really weird.

I am a proud Christian and I get frustrated every time a Mike Huckabee or a James Dobson utters some ridiculous statement quoting outdated or misinterpreted scripture. There is so much more to this tragedy and we have to spend time in a national dialogue searching for answers, not dismissing the event on a sound bite. My God is a loving and forgiving God. He gave us free will and with free will you get tragedies. I'm not trying to dismiss this event at all. Just that there is no one simple answer to explain why it happened. And Huckabee and Dobson don't help. They are not the moral leaders I want to follow

While Huck a bee and his pals like W, DC, SP, JMC, MR, JB, JM, the TP and the NRA et al have been entertaining the nation and the populace with Iraq, Libya North Korea and Syria.

The Enemy within, the Terrorist inside was getting ready, arming themselves with Assault rifles, sometimes foreign made. Going to the firing range to practice how to shoot left and right, at anyone and everyone. Really, really people!!

So what do we have in this country now? Well, just to begin without going too far. A whole generation of men who are unfit even for Military Service. Who are fundamentally DRAFT-DODGERS as probably were their fathers and grandfathers. Who in all probability will flee to Canada, again! Who would probably refuse to Defend their Country from Foreign enemies. Who would burn their SS cards, who would probably claim Conscientious Objector all over again, if there ever was a need to bring back the good Old Draft.

But then this same type of good for nothing are Ready and Willing to pick-up Military style weapons to shoot their fellow citizens, even children. Worst of all yet even their own mothers.

This is the 21st century equivalent of prehistoric tribesmen believing that thunder and lightning bolts meant the sky gods were angry with them.

I just don't understand some people. Even if I learned that God really doesn't exist, I would still want to follow the basic principles of trying to live as a Christian because of the joy my actions bring to myself and others by always trying to put others first instead of being selfish and/or dishonest to get what I want like so many people who have no faith choose to do,

The idea is that man gives man rights and therefore man is capable of taking those rights away (sans diety ideology). Think back to the Native Americans who believed in the Great Spirit. The settlers came, who did not believe in the great spirit and therefore felt free to take that land.

I hope when disaster strikes closer to him he says it is God punishing him for the evil lies he is making on his name.

What kind of Christians will say that God did not want to help those children from getting killed because His ego was hurt by the mutterings of politicians?

Sometimes I wonder if we really know God at all? If there is anything I know about God God is Good! Evil is not within Him.
Christians are the ones that paint God as some vengeful egomaniac. God is so mad at Haiti because they do voodoo hence the earthquake, God is mad at America so children got killed, God is mad at Nigeria so people who go church get bombed, God is mad at Africa for worshiping other gods so He sold them into slavery.

Joseph was sold into slavery, Ruth lost her husband, Mary's son was crucified, Job lost everything, Paul went to jail, Stephen was stoned to death, etc. looking back now we can see the good that came out of those situations, I wonder if people said God was punishing Joseph, Ruth, Mary, Job, Paul, Stephen at the time they were going through what they were going through.

I may never know why, but one thing I know is that good is going to come out of this situation.
This is nothing new though: Acts 28:3-6 Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. 4 When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other, “This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, the goddess Justice has not allowed him to live.” 5 But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects. 6 The people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead; but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god.

Mike Huckabee is a perfect example there isn't a god – a supreme being would never create such a moronic tool.

I am so glad Huckabee did not get far in his presidential bid. He is an idiot. I did not have religion in my school. I am 65 years old and turned out fine. There has been more harm done in the name of religion than in any other (government, etc.) He had no business using this tragedy to espound his religious views on the country,. This is not a religious country for many reasons. And a religion would not stop a mentally ill person from killing another. He and the other religious people (Bachmann for one) should keep their mouths shut and let the families grieve.

You, Mr. Huckabee, are an ass. You represent the worst kind of hypocritical, blame shifting, soulless morons we have in this country. My disgust far exceeds the words I can come up with to describe it.

We certainly can talk about responsibility and accountability, we just don't allow you to make up the answers. We can do this without your god. All I see in this article is that Huckabee is bummed out that people are waking up and won't be controlled by living in fear of hell anymore.

  18. There was a time when religion ruled the world

and all of Europe was solidly christian, ruled by christian leaders that were approved by the christian church.
We call this time the dark ages

What sick logic. So since our government isn't allowed to force one religious perspective onto students, his god decided to turn a blind eye while 20 kids get murdered. Even I thought that god existed I would never worship such a monster.
