Vatican: Cardinals could meet sooner to choose new pope

By Livia Borghese and Laura Smith-Spark for CNN

Rome (CNN) - The cardinals who must pick a successor to Pope Benedict XVI after he steps down on February 28 could meet to make the decision sooner than thought, a Vatican spokesman said Saturday.

The conclave, the meeting which will bring together the 117 cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church, could start before March 15 if all the cardinals are already in Rome, Father Federico Lombardi said.

Lombardi had previously said the conclave was likely to start between March 15 and 19.

But he gave new details Saturday, saying that because the pope had resigned rather than the conclave being triggered by his death, there was scope for the time frame to be brought forward.

The decision may not come until after Benedict's departure and lies in the hands of the cardinals, he added.

Jesus never actually said he believed in God. In fact, if you read the Bible you will learn that Jesus actually believed in what he called, "The Divine".

What does this mean? Jesus, while inarticulate and a bit clumsy in general, had an excellent grasp of the fundamentals of what the Native Americans call, "Mother Earth" and what it is to be a "Human Being".

    How do we know this?

Look at the teachings of Jesus in the Gnostic literature that relates to being reborn as a Snake, a Lizard, and a Spider. Why did Jesus feel he was reincarnated; and why these animals and insects? That is easy if you read the Gospel of Mary.

Mary had many pet names for her lover and among them were Snake, Lizard, and Spider. Snake and Lizard I can understand, but the passages relative to Spider are less clear.

if I may draw a parallel, Mohammad never actually said he believed in GAWD. In fact, if you read the Qu'Ran you will learn that Mohammad actually believed in what he called, "GORE".

What a cornucopia of flimflam buffoonery the Christians have shared with us today! What a plethora of prattle!

The entertainment value of hearing what they actually believe just cannot be underestimated.

The evidence would suggest that Judas, Mary, Jesus and others spent a great deal of their down time reflecting on the spiritual dichotomy of the soul vs. the physical and how that relates to the teachings of God.

Why did they do this? Jesus was attracted to Buddhism and often rested his decisions on the non-bias imaginings of one who would make sacrifice in this life only to be reborn in the next.

In short, Jesus was a Jew by birth, but not by practice. He taught his own flavor of Buddhism and his closest disciples, Judas and Mary for example, were quite sure he was a snake in a previous life.

Jesus was quite real, and quite human. Even Timothy and Philip knew the true nature of Christ, as evidenced in this passage from the Gospel of Philip, "...and our Lord came unto me and witnessed as I behaved without intimidation."

Scholars believe this is evidence of group sexual activity, common place at this time in history among men afield.

I have spent a great deal of my professional life in the study of the Gnostic Gospels. As it turns out, the majority of “prophets” contributing to these scriptures was quite illiterate and most likely drew pictures to explain their wisdom.

Needless to say, transcribing pictographs to verse was a tough task for the monks in those early centuries.

Moreover, Jesus was the worst of the lot. This poor man could not even draw stick figures in the sand and apparently could not be trusted with anything sharp enough to draw with. As the story goes, Jesus would have to play a primitive form of "charades" while his scribes tried to guess his meaning.

Most scholars agree that this is why these books were omitted from the Holy Bible

  10. Unglodly Discipline

The majority of people on this planet will, in fact, believe anything they are told. And if there is a satisfactory amount of time for brain washing to take place, they may become religious. Christians are very much the same as Nazis, Muslims, Jews and many other smaller cults that are affected by the charlatans of religion and power.

Why were atheists spared? Are we more intelligent? I don’t think so. There is something else at work here that I find frightening. Could something so bizarre happen to me?

How did those children get slaughtered? God is barred from using magic in situations that embarass us due to free will.

    Tom Tom
Last I heard atheists believed in relativism. Truth all is relative to beliefs (true or false of the population or those in power) that are based on the then norms of that society. If the norms of society are that God exists and is the creator this is truth under your own construct of relative truth!

      PoeSpotter, you are correct.

      February 18, 2013 at 5:19 pm |
    • fred

      **
Actually, you are correct since Chad argues positions that are valid from the creationist camp and others argue from the secular camp. Chad speaks the truth from a well rounded position while the secular camp is blinded by anything related to God. Science and religion actually complement each other when the truth is spoken. Problem is that relativism allows for two opposing facts to be true making truth the variable and time the constant. Thus the atheist has no absolute truth with the exception of a time certain for organic matter responding to chemical stimuli.

      February 18, 2013 at 5:27 pm |

“What is the philosophy behind the talking snake in the garden of eden?”
=> In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
=>Man was with God in the Garden which God spoke into existence. The word of the serpent was not the true word of God. Man chose the deception of the serpent (the creation) over the voice of the Creator.
To this very day man has a choice to follow the deception of the serpent or the Word of God. I suggest you take the red pill and see it takes you Zealot.

It was the woman Eve who fell for the word of deception. Eve was enticed to acquire the wisdom of God through the knowledge of good and evil. Can you see the deception yet? The wisdom of God is in knowing God not the knowledge.

Science offers all the knowledge you want but cannot touch the origin of life or purpose of existence. If you want that you must stop listening to the serpent.

      fred,
"=>Life eternal filled with love, joy and peace united with God in wondrous awe."

      - There's just as much evidence for The Big Rock Candy Mountain:

One evening as the sun went down
And the jungle fires were burning,
Down the track came a hobo hiking,
And he said, "Boys, I'm not turning
I'm headed for a land that's far away
      Besides the crystal fountains
So come with me, we'll go and see
      The Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains,
      There's a land that's fair and bright,
Where the handouts grow on bushes
And you sleep out every night.
Where the boxcars all are empty
And the sun shines every day
And the birds and the bees
      And the cigarette trees
      The lemonade springs
      Where the bluebird sings
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
All the cops have wooden legs
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth
And the hens lay soft-boiled eggs
The farmers' trees are full of fruit
And the barns are full of hay
      Oh I'm bound to go
      Where there ain't no snow
      Where the rain don't fall
      The winds don't blow
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
      You never change your socks
And the little streams of alcohol
      Come trickling down the rocks
The brakemen have to tip their hats
And the railway bulls are blind
      There's a lake of stew
      And of whiskey too
You can paddle all around it
      In a big canoe
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains,
The jails are made of tin.
And you can walk right out again,
As soon as you are in.
      There ain't no short-handled shovels,
      No axes, saws nor picks,
      I'm bound to stay
      Where you sleep all day,
      Where they hung the jerk
      That invented work
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.
      ....
I'll see you all this coming fall
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

All the laws are summarized under love God and love your neighbor as yourself. We are to serve others with joy in our hearts. Sometimes I don’t have the joy and don’t feel like serving and want to be selfish. Sometimes I want to spend money and time on myself and I hate it when people in need just happen to show up. When I realize they did not just happen to show up and they were sent so that I could be a blessing instead if a pig I feel bad. When I feel bad or guilty that is not of God and I ask for forgiveness and try to learn from the experience.

    • Answer

      @fred

So in other words you have nothing. Your constant usage of words that have appeal doesn't do anything.

      ********** firstly
=>If death is anything other than non existence is it not self evident that a pleasing eternity trumps the alternative?

-- You see you don't even specify anything as "pleasing". Do you know how to define the word? What is pleasing?
Associate it. It must be an activity must it not? If you go on with just the lovely words you must associate it to a context. So what context is pleasing? Pleasing eternity? That alone speaks "BOREDOM". For an eternity you must be doing something throughout the span of time.

      ********** secondly
      =>there is no must do.
--So define the stuff you get to do. If it is NOT a must then it surely is something you MAY or WANT to spend the length of time on.

      ********** thirdly
What we know it that all evil (anything not of God) is separated and nonexistent. We cannot imagine what that is because all we know and have known is touched by evil.
“Worship” is a way to express the highest love and admiration for something so wondrous the seraphim cover their eyes. It is overwhelming.

--You're full of bs here. "separated and nonexistent." - let see you explain this.

"We cannot imagine what that is because all we know and have known is touched by evil."
-- Once more bs. God can't even get rid of evil?

“Worship” is a way to express the highest love and admiration for something so wondrous" <<– god wants worship? You know this for fact?
      -Try again deluded fool.

Are there any historic ruins in the pristine plains of this lush green and bountiful glade of wonder that is covered by endless rainbows? With the glowing sun radiating it's glory of the day? The night that is forever banished from the skies that is of your wondrous heaven?

      February 18, 2013 at 7:26 pm |
    • fred

      answer

“For an eternity you must be doing something throughout the span of time.”
=>you are blending our known time and space which consists of past, present and future with eternity which does not have such boundaries. The boundaries are no different than yours (assuming you think of that nothingness abyss as simply an infinite extension of nonexistence) after death. The only difference is we have hope in a joyous presence. There is no guarantee that it will be like the paradise of the Garden of Eden because God says it will be a new heaven and a new earth. We will see Christ because we will be like him. There are patterns of flowing streams (i.e. constant flow of goodness in all manner of speaking). Streets of Gold, walls of jasper all speak about our lack of words to describe the wonder that awaits the children of God. At a minimum we will be blessings to all around us.

You act as if it would be boring to spend eternal “moments” simply being and I say you are locked in a negative materialistic world. God simply is and we are somewhat of that nature where we simply are the state of pleasing, the state of love, and the state of joy. If you have ever experienced a moment of true love how long would that moment be from a timeless perspective?
Hell? What is such an eternity since we have never experienced timelessness outside of the constraints of time? Does it go on forever? No it is eternal not forever which is time sequenced.

“If it is NOT a must then it surely is something you MAY or WANT to spend the length of time on. “
=>I don’t think we call the shots on this as we receive a reward based on what we were given while we were here. Yes, if I always feel joy when feeding orphans I may be at a feeding station but that is a guess. It could be in the nature of a timeless dream where you morph in out of different states.

“– Once more bs. God can't even get rid of evil?”
=>we have no indication that good or evil are erased from time simply the creation of a new heaven and new earth where there is no evil. We are told God will separate evil for eternity from good. We are not told how yet are told of eternal hell existing for some that will always hate God and work against God.

“god wants worship? You know this for fact?”
=>Worship is not used in the way you see or understand it. If you love someone you have the highest admiration for them and longing to be with them and serving their every need.

      February 18, 2013 at 8:11 pm |
    • fred

      Ken
“What if you interpret supporting equal marriage rights for gays as an example of loving your neighbor as yourself?”
=>Equal rights are not an issue as that is biblical. Gay marriage is a problem at several levels. I personally direct people to denominations that believe certain verses of the Bible do not apply.

“How do you explain the desire some Christians seem to have in wanting to keep marriage just for straight people?”
=>There is sinful bigoted behavior in all of us and that I address straight out. I have seen enough ugly marriages and very few married people model marriage as God intended. Marriage is to be to the glory of God and much of the Bible relates marriage to the relationship between Christ the church and believers so we can relate to it. Jesus said there is no marriage in heaven as we see it down here.
Are you treating the person you are with in a manner that glorifies God? First priority is a right relationship with God then a right relationship with whoever God brings into your life. Now if God Joins the two no one shall separate that union. Insisting on a male female relationship reeks of the Sanhedrin that crucified Christ. I ask Christians why they are focused on this to the extent they are willing to intentionally violate the prime laws Jesus made crystal clear.

In short there is usually a bigoted reason why people skip from love God with all your heart then love your neighbor as yourself just to focus on a detail churches cannot even agree upon. When you put it in proper order the problem goes away.

You sure love to paint whatever imagery you would love to pander to yourself don't you? Spin everything to fit your own vapidness.

      ------–

Your self delusion is for all the glorious words of the dictionary that appeals to your imagination and likes, never the words you dislike. The length of time of eternity is what fred? How long are you going to define one moment that passes in a heaven? It never ends and that's your torture.

The Bible says specifically that hell is reserved for satan and his demons. It is a great eternal lake of fire. There is no question about that. Exactly what an eternal lake of fire is that is open for debate.
Outside of that bunch we do not know the nature of torment specifically for others that reject God because God is rejected for all sorts of reason. There is also the theme that we are only held responsible for what we were given.

The entire concept of God revolves around the eternal nature of God and eternal life with God. Everything we have been given points towards something really great. Sorry if I do not know what that is. In my opinion what we read is symbolic because there are no words yet to describe that joy.

Since the Quran never says the 72 virgins are female or even human, there are a lot of Muslim jihadists who could have been in for a doozie of a surprise!

oh, so tell me again how your understanding about what that abyss of nothingness amounts to from an eternal perspective. You can only describe it as if you were a frog that gets run over by a car. Not that simple for an atheist or Christian because we a have no practical experience or words for an eternal hereafter.

sorry, I must run but I will see if I can think of something tomorrow

Go make up more stuff. That's your deal – it's always been that way. Appeal to yourself -those things that make you feel comfortable.

Equal rights for blacks and women use to be biblical too. Give it another few years and most Christians will conveniently realize that the Bible doesn't actually condemn gays, or how they live. You can choose to be on the right side of history now, or be judged by future generations.

The Bible has been clear with regard to “blacks” and women having equality before God. It also clearly shows the actual treatment not reflecting the ways of God which simply points to sin and the need for salvation of all men over time. There is also no difference between married people gay or straight when it comes to equality before God. You are correct in that the Bible points to sin and the need for salvation to those who discriminate against others.
The question boils down to $exual lust and in most cases there is little difference between lusts that are sinful in married straights or gays. Thoughts and actions that are sinful will separate anyone from God and certainly does not bring glory to God or reflect the glory of God given Gods burning holiness.
Any physical activities or thoughts that could harm someone you love are wrong. This applies equally to all.

[HD] Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman – Is The Universe Alive? S03E03

From the smallest microbe, to the tallest tree, we think we know life when we see it. But could life also exist on the vastly different scale? Where planets act like single cells, and black holes reproduce the DNA of space itself? Could the secrets of the cosmos lie, not in physics, but in biology? Is the universe alive?
