TP & S, you both act like I'm missing something in not rejecting God. I'll tell you straight, the best ever, my enitre lifetime, is when with a warm smile on her face, my Mom agreed with my Father, that God exists and to try your best in life to do well for him. You apparently didn't get that, and now think it's funny to instead look for directions to hell and ridicule God, when he's done nothing to incite you to do that, but instead gave you life and a brain to use to figure it out. You grow up and figure it out, before it's too late. Days are counting down... a finte number you have to work within.

John: You're a blatant liar!! Your imaginary friend can't be shown to exist. Your god didn't give us anything and just because you're not capable of understanding science and reality does not mean the rest of us should remain so closed minded. No matter how many times you spew it, it doesn't make it fact...just your uneducated opinion.

John: One more thing: There is nothing to figure out until there is evidence to support it. I'm not going to live in fear of a god or gods that there is no evidence to support (and nothing that you have said or posted is evidence in the real world).

Science: We watched the Dover trial and with every case won like that we become closer to a world without the need for imaginary friends. John seems to believe we are going to be sorry in the end but in reality, I wouldn't want to be spending any amount of time with people as hateful and spiteful as him...he has a sick mind if he truly wishes eternal torture on a person or believes in a god that would do that to a person.

    @GodFreeNow:
Your heart (spirit) is not right with God so you have difficulty interpreting scriptures. Scripture can not be broken.
Jesus is the Word of God. The seen was created from the unseen. God made everything with his Word.
Romans 8:7 – Because the wisdom of the flesh is enmity against God: [b]for it is not subject to the Law of God, neither indeed can be.

1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
I do not know if you will come across this, or if I can see your response but I sure will love to answer your questions.
Jesus is LOVE. IF He hated everything so normal, why would He give up his life for the sinful world? The pervs? Woman caught in adultry, the murderers, rioters, people engaged in foolishness, debauchery, witchcraft, child molestors, etc? He did this so that whosoever believes in Him will NOT perish (escaping the lake of fire which all sinful souls will burn in forever), but have ETERNAL life.
Note that it doesn't say that all that believe in Jesus will "live in heaven"; rather they will have eternal life. No sickness, no death, no heartache.
You, GodFreeNow will be a part of this reality. Whilst on earth, you decide where you will go.
PS: I am NO pastor, and most christians will consider me not worthy...the key is KNOWING Jesus and Him as LORD of your life.

      -Being s.e.xually controlling

Matthew 8:21 = Indecision shown. If you are ready for business, then do it.

Matthew 10:34 & 10:35 = REALITY. I love Jesus because He doesn't sugar coat the truth, o boy, he IS the truth. Have an idea the kind of death He suffered? For the first time humanity would actually have the chance to have our sins WASHED (not covered) away. Spiritual forces will clearly see a pathway to where God stays, for mankind. Think the enemies of progress won't fight the messengers?? Really???
Why would He (Jesus) deceive the people that were signing up for this assignment, knowing fully well the REALITY that faces anyone who believes in Him, not only in AD30 – AD 120, but on to TODAY'S DATE. Ever hear of "persecution"? This is honest straight talk.REMEMBER HE IS THE TRUTH. Lump all truth (not misrepresentation) and you would get Jesus.
Yet, He gives grace in tough situations.
One of your fallacy is MISREPRESENTATION BY CHOPPING AND PICKING SINGLE PASSAGES OF SCRIPTURES to represent. I can give you more scriptures that show Jesus cares for his women and men, but would rather show you the intent of the heart in the scriptures you are attempting to use to misrepresent Jesus.
Luke 14:26-27, 33 = REMEMBER THE FIRST AND GREATEST COMMANDMENT?? IF YOUR love for God isn't #1, sorry...because you will lose traction sooner than you expect. Your'e doing wordplay on the usage of the word "hate" etc.

Matthew 19:29 = reward for investment. The KING rewards!

      Need more? YES.

      @Blessed are the Cheesemakers:
I can understand your points, but it sounds like you are talking about Religion, NOT Jesus.

I can relate because people can influence how we see the supernatural and the Almighty, and they misrepresent Him, which we will feel because it won't make sense as we are His creation, it turns us off.

Best advice is seek God for yourself, and cut away from folks that believe what you describe. Actually, Read John Gospels, then the book of Romans, then Ephesians, then Galatians, then Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, then read 1John, then 1 and 2nd Peter, then Hebrews, then James, then 1 & 2nd Corinthians.

Read them in this order, and you will be blessed.

"people can influence how we see the supernatural and the Almighty, and they misrepresent Him"

How do you know it's a him? I ask because you were apparently influenced by someone to believe God is a "he" without any evidence, or have you seen God's penis?

The fact is there is no such thing as "supernatural" because everything we experience is purely natural regardless of whether we understand it or not. For a very long time people believed you got sick because you were a sinner and it wasn't until the invention of the microscope that we realized what germs were. Everything you call "soul" and "spirit" can be perfectly explained by our bio-electric brains and bodies.

Your view of the male creator deity is just one of many that people have sworn up and down are real and active and are responsible for all sorts of unexplained phenomenon. If you dismiss the Hindus who swear they have experienced their God the same way that you have experienced yours, and yet provide no more proof of your own, then you are a fool and a hypocrite and not worthy of the incredible life you fell into.

    February 27, 2013 at 11:51 pm |
  4. Reality

It is not "Jesus is" but "Jesus was":

Jesus was an illiterate Jewish, dirty sometimes sick (new book), peasant/carpenter/simple preacher man who suffered from hallucinations (or “mythicizing” from P, M, M, L and J) and who has been characterized anywhere from the Messiah from Nazareth to a mythical character from mythical Nazareth to a ma-mzer from Nazareth (Professor Bruce Chilton, in his book Rabbi Jesus). An-alyses of Jesus’ life by many contemporary NT scholars (e.g. Professors Ludemann, Crossan, Borg and Fredriksen, ) via the NT and related doc-uments have concluded that only about 30% of Jesus' sayings and ways noted in the NT were authentic. The rest being embellishments (e.g. miracles)/hallucinations made/had by the NT authors to impress various Christian, Jewish and Pagan sects.

The 30% of the NT that is "authentic Jesus" like everything in life was borrowed/plagiarized and/or improved from those who came before. In Jesus' case, it was the ways and sayings of the Babylonians, Greeks, Persians, Egyptians, Hitt-ites, Canaanites, OT, John the Baptizer and possibly the ways and sayings of traveling Greek Cynics.

    earlychristianwritings.com/

For added "pizzazz", Catholic theologians divided god the singularity into three persons and invented atonement as an added guilt trip for the "pew people" to go along with this trinity of overseers. By doing so, they made god the padre into god the "filicider".

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

    February 27, 2013 at 11:31 pm |
    • Reality

One of your major delusions is that the simple preacher man, Jesus is/was somehow "god, incarnate"!!!
John 1:1-18 where you have found most of this incarnation mumbo-jumbo only appears in this passage making it a single attestation. Most contemporary historic Jesus and NT scholars have concluded that the passage is simply more embellishment by the "great embellisher" John (who btw was not the Apostle John)- See Father Raymond Brown's epic 800+ page book, An Introduction to the New Testament for added information.

      Some added notes:

Actually, all of John's Gospel is of questionable historic value.

      To wit:

From Professor Bruce Chilton in his book, Rabbi Jesus,

"Conventionally, scholarship has accorded priority to the first three gospels in historical work on Jesus, putting progressively less credence in works of late date. John's Gospel for example is routinely dismissed as a source......

      From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gospel_of_John#Authorship

"Since "the higher criticism" of the 19th century, some historians have largely rejected the gospel of John as a reliable source of information about the historical Jesus.[3][4] "[M]ost commentators regard the work as anonymous,"[5] and date it to 90-100."

"The authorship has been disputed since at least the second century, with mainstream Christianity believing that the author is John the Apostle, son of Zebedee. Modern experts usually consider the author to be an unknown non-eyewitness, though many apologetic Christian scholars still hold to the conservative Johannine view that ascribes authorship to John the Apostle."

And from Professor Gerd Ludemann, in his book, Jesus After 2000 Years, p. 416,

"Anyone looking for the historical Jesus will not find him in the Gospel of John. "

"Jesus is not a big fan of women. "

Jesus first revealed himself to women. All the men had ran off. They stayed devoted to him He loved them.

      Look at Luke 8:1-5.

"After this he journeyed through towns and villages preaching and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve accompanied him, and also some women.... Mary called the Magdalene, ...Joanna, the wife of Herod's steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others who were assisting them out of their means."

Apparently, it's easy to convince man that he's god incarnate in human flesh, but convincing man that women are equals... well, he's only god.... he can't work miracles... Clearly you've read the Bible. God a.k.a., Jesus has a pretty abysmal record on female equality. He wouldn't even help a woman gentile by healing her daughter until she compared herself to a dog.

No Jesus explained how the rich will have a hard chance getting to heaven because they will idolize riches. Riches are a stumbling block. There is a parable about a guy who walked right away from jesusnwhe Jesus told him to leave his possessions. " It will be harder for a rich man to enter heaven than a camel to pass through the eye of a needle"

Matthew 8:21 And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
8:22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

Luke 14:26-27, 33 "If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple ... So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple."

Matthew 19:29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

When Jesus taught his disciples, he usually started with a difficult truth. Such as you must hate your family. (Why hate your family? Maybe because your family is probably going to hate you, kinda like how some atheists on here hate religious people) And He would then tell a parable that helped put into perspective what he meant. What are the parables for each of those quotes?

    • GodFreeNow

@GodFreedMe, So now that I've shown you Jesus' supposed words, you're going to tell me that's not what he meant and that you speak for him. Interesting tactic that I think would work well in Sunday school but you're going to have to do better than that in this arena. You asked me to prove my assertion, I did. Jesus did in fact say what I said. Now it's your turn. Prove that your interpretation is right and that Jesus wasn't being literal when he said what he said.

      February 27, 2013 at 11:05 pm |
    • Austin

You go take the original language and the word hate means deny or forsake or something. But the meaning is that they don't come before god. Family isnnot more important than god. Some people worship family, this is foolish. Jesusndoes not mean hate your family. Go look up a bible commentary, every one of them will agree with me. There are many instances where interpretation is difficult and words like hate are over emphasized words for original words that have no English translation at all.

      February 27, 2013 at 11:15 pm |
    • GodFreedMe

Jesus is preparing his disciples for what it may cost to follow him.

"...suffer me first to go and bury my father..."

This guy's father wasn't dead. The guy was saying he was willing to follow Jesus – after his father died. In 10 or 20 years.

Many christian sects don't get it, but this is what Satan does, he deceives confuses, lies mimics, imposters, and forms apostate religion. Ishmael is our Hebraic brother and God loves us all. Muhammad denied the Holy Spirit exists.

Mat 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy [against] the [Holy] Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
Mat 12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the [world] to come.

Muhammad also spoke of polytheism, which does not accurately accept what the new testament reveals about who Christ is... Hi is not a separate god. Read John 1:1-14. Jesus is the word, who was in the beginning as creator, and the plural definition of god in genesis is the father son and spirt. Godhead. One god, with salvation as central as thenglorification of humanity from death, to rebirth and eternal life. Gods sovereign ability is fully encompassed through the god head as one god. And the holy spirit reveals himself in awesome ways.

I am not an expert on Islam, but what little I've read, in Islam, Jesus when the soldiers are coming to get him in the room with the 12 apostles, Jesus asks the 12, who wants to die for him? Then 3 times asking, and each time, one young man offers. So Jesus accepts, changes him to look like Jesus, and the real Jesus floats out the ceiling before they get there. Can you confirm this or explain why he supposidly does that?

      Islam destroyed these out too:

      – Genesis (gone)
      – Job (last portion where God speaks and corrects them, they don't talk either to be corrected)
      – Revelation (the black light hairy sun etc... and other great stuff)

Satan took out some really great stuff showing God is right... he has been very active over the centuries.

God knew it, given Revelation's content.

That is a term, first stated in the book of Enoch the seventh generation from Adam, The son of man was the term used.

The term is used because he was born, but he was eternal and in the beginning. So he was not born . He was birthed. He was always god. Always alive, unlike any human, Jesus transcends time. Ho could he be born in heaven in the beginning and born on earth? Do you see why the term, The son of god, Does not make Jesus the fathered son of god? Was he born in heaven? Because he was clearly verified as the creator . He came clothed in a robe dipped in blood and they called his name the wod of god (rev)

The angel of the lord, referred to many times in the old testament, and Melchizedek the high priest who blessed Abraham, was the person of Jesus Christ. God is anything and everything he wants to be. He taking in the holy spirit through baptism is not taking anything away from His deity.

There was a white kitten on my porch one day , it was shaking with a disease, but purring and friendly. That was the first I saw it. That night I had a dream I was in a forest and it was dark and cold, so I knocked on the door of an a frame cabin. This lady opened the door and allowed me to stay and said " I have 2 kids". There was one kid, and one dead kidnwhosnspieit was singing to me in a demonic voice, and my body inverted upside down and the cat that was on my porch ran underneath me with blood gushing out of its entire side. I woke up and knew it was dead, knew a spirit had revealed this. I went outside and it was ran over at the end of my driveway .

I have also had the holy spirit reveal pictures if scripture to me before I even read it. This was the most incredible thing I have experienced in my life. I write my dreams down ever since the first on happened and the holy spirit has awesome ways of revealing his sovereign ability. One time a friend woke up and had had a dream about the thoughts I was thinking the night before, And all this has happened to me in a sequence of unmistakable events to call me to faith as a servant and slave of the cross of which I am not worthy.

Some more 'favorites' from Robert Brown's Christian book of nasty, since he's insisting on dumping his awful bible bile on us:

    Numbers 31:17-18
17 Now kiII all the boys. And kiII every woman who has slept with a man,
18 but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.

Revelations 2:23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

    Leviticus 25
44 “‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves.
45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property.
46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.

Note that the bible is also very clear that you should sacrifice and burn an animal today because the smell makes sicko Christian sky fairy happy. No, you don't get to use the parts for food. You burn them, a complete waste of the poor animal.

Yes, the bible really says that, everyone. Yes, it's in Leviticus, look it up. Yes, Jesus purportedly said that the OT commands still apply. No exceptions. But even if you think the OT was god's mistaken first go around, you have to ask why a perfect, loving enti-ty would ever put such horrid instructions in there. If you think rationally at all, that is.

And then, if you disagree with my interpretation, ask yourself how it is that your "god" couldn't come up with a better way to communicate than a book that is so readily subject to so many interpretations and to being taken "out of context", and has so many mistakes in it. Pretty pathetic god that you've made for yourself.

So get out your sacrificial knife or your nasty sky creature will torture you eternally. Or just take a closer look at your foolish supersti-tions, understand that they are just silly, and toss them into the dustbin with all the rest of the gods that man has created.

      @Robert

So you don't really want to address it because it raises some uncomfortable questions? You have to use the "Durrr ask god bout it when you die, but god's still good and here's a nice fluffy passage from the bible to prove it". Really? Are you that insecure in your beliefs?

      February 27, 2013 at 9:30 pm |
    • Robert Brown

      Hawaiiguest,

I have already met God and I hope you meet him before you die, after would not be good. I am comfortable discussing the judgment of God. God judges sin. He also offers forgiveness. He did not haul off and kill these folks wholesale out of the clear blue sky for nothing. He gave these nations that the children of Israel destroyed hundreds of years to repent. They refused. He gives people lots of opportunities to come to him. How many chances are enough?

      February 27, 2013 at 9:36 pm |
    • Tom, Tom, the Other One

Why is God so caught up in what people do that he would judge them, give them chances, and ultimately destroy them? I'm kinder to ants than God is to people.

      February 27, 2013 at 9:39 pm |
    • hawaiiguest

      @Robert

Really, and if anyone else were to do this, you'd call it evil. You only think it's fine because "god said so, god=good because he says he's good, so too bad for those morons". It's bullshit and would be entirely evil in your eyes when it came to anyone or any other god other than your own.

      February 27, 2013 at 9:45 pm |
    • Robert Brown

      Tom, Tom, the Other One,

You are very kind if you are nice to ants.

We place a great deal of value on this physical life and rightly so, it is the only one that we know. Would an eternal being see it the same way?

I don’t guess I know why he is so concerned with our actions other than, God is holy, something that we are not and which includes things I know I don’t understand. God can’t look on sin without judging it, because of his holiness. He made a way that he doesn’t have to judge us. He told us what he wants. What else can he do?

      February 27, 2013 at 9:50 pm |
    • Austin

God is Holy. He hates evil and he hates sin. Romans 5:8. But god demonstrates his love toward us in this, that while we were yet sinners , christ died for us.

He who knew no sin, became sin, that we might become the righteousness of god in Him.

      February 27, 2013 at 9:50 pm |
    • hawaiiguest

And, of course, no actual discussion will come out of either you Robert, or you Austin, because you don't care about actual discussion. All you want to do is assert and assert and preach all over the place. I don't accept your assertions, and no amount of reassertions are your part is going to make a bit of difference.

      February 27, 2013 at 9:53 pm |
    • Robert Brown

      Hawaiiguest,

I agree if a person slaughtered a bunch of people we would all say it is evil.
God gave his reasons for doing it. In the example I mentioned above, the Midianites worshipped other gods, and led the children of Israel into their practices. This was God’s response. What would be your suggestion to God for how to have corrected this problem?

      February 27, 2013 at 9:58 pm |
    • Tom, Tom, the Other One

Other believers are evasive on this, Robert: "What else can he do?" That question suggests that you believe God is not sovereign over whatever it is that establishes what is good. If any action is good when and because God does it, then surely omnipotent God could have solved the problem of human sin and imperfection by actions other than sacrifice of his son, and any of those actions would have been consistent with his benevolent nature. Instead it seems he was constrained to that one action – sacrifice.

      February 27, 2013 at 10:01 pm |
    • Robert Brown

      Tom, Tom, the Other One,

I don’t mean to be evasive. My understanding of God is obviously limited. A couple of things come to mind on the subject of God’s power. I assume you have read some or all of the Bible. Have you noticed how God exercises his power? It occurs to me that he tends to use his creation to do things. Why does he use one nation to judge another? Rain fire and brimstone on Sodom and Gomorrah? A flood to destroy everyone in Noah’s day? Moses to lead his people? Prophets to tell people what he said? Prepare a great fish to swallow Noah? Speak to Job out of the whirlwind?
God is a spirit. What in the world is that? It isn’t something we can see. Why did he lead the people with a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night? Why does he use people and nature to carry out his plans? If he didn’t like something couldn’t he just make it disappear? Why does he do things the way he does them? Why does he allow evil in his universe? Even if we knew the answer to all of those questions, would it make him less powerful? Just for a moment assume that he created all that we can perceive and a lot we can’t, wouldn’t that require an all powerful being?

      February 27, 2013 at 10:22 pm |
    • Tom, Tom, the Other One

Sorry, Robert. I didn't mean to say that you are being evasive. I am puzzled. It seems God is all powerful, but constrained in some way to actions some of which we may find appalling. If we find actions appalling, most believers would say that that is because of an objective moral standard and that is something they usually say comes from God. But the actions are good if God does them even if the objective moral standard suggests otherwise?

      February 27, 2013 at 10:35 pm |
    • GodFreeNow

@Austin, "He hates evil and he hates sin."
So did god create evil or did it exist before god? If he created it, why does he hate his own creation, or why create something that he hates so much?

      February 27, 2013 at 10:39 pm |
    • Robert Brown

      Tom, Tom, the Other One,

What we find appalling is the judgment of God. I believe it was Isaiah who called the judgment of God his strange work. God terms his judgment evil, why shouldn’t we? I don’t think God likes to do it. I think it breaks his heart.

Have you ever read the book of Hosea? God told him to go marry a prosti.tute. He married her and they had children, then she left him and the kids and went back to prosti.tution. Under the Mosaic law he could have had her stoned to death. God told him to go get her again and bring her home. Imagine that. The reason God did this was to show Hosea and the people he was preaching to, what Israel was doing to God. They were his bride and they would betray him and he would bring them back. It broke his heart when they went astray but he loved them enough to take them back. After all that God has done to judge Israel over the years he is still not done with them. They are to be brought back together again when Jesus comes the second time.

God is after your heart, mind, and soul. He does extinguish this physical life in judgment, but what is a hundred years or so compared with eternity. Would you give a hundred years for a thousand, a million, forever?

God’s judgment is not always the taking of life. He uses situations to bring us to him. I assume you are familiar with the prodigal son. He was starving, the judgment of God for his behavior. It led him to return to his father.

For his glory and yours if hearing you hear and seeing you see . Ask for faith in genuine need and you might be amazed, if you are suffering in the s in of this life he can save you from this if you cry out for him. And when his glory is revealed you will share your faith .

Some more 'favorites' from Robert Brown's Christian book of nasty, since he's constantly dumping his awful bible bile on us:

      Numbers 31:17-18
17 Now kiII all the boys. And kiII every woman who has slept with a man,
18 but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.

Deuteronomy 13:6 – “If your brother, your mother’s son or your son or daughter, or the wife you cherish, or your friend who is as your own soul entice you secretly, saying, let us go and serve other gods … you shall surely kill him; your hand shall be first against him to put him to death”

Ask the questions. Break the chains. Join the movement.
Be free of Christianity and other superstitions.

@Robert Brown, So before Jesus no one could get to the Father? Seems in opposition to the previous chapters of the book. Also, I thought it was Jesus' death that offered salvation. But those words point to it not mattering whether he lived or died since he was speaking in the present tense. What a tangled web...
