A look at possible papal contenders

(CNN) - Technically, any adult Catholic male can be elected to the papacy, but the last pope not chosen from the College of Cardinals was Urban VI in 1379. The cardinals who seem to be front-runners to replace the current pope are referred to as "papabile," or translated from the Italian, "pope-able."

Our interactive offers a list of some cardinals considered "papabile," according to John Allen, CNN analyst and correspondent for the National Catholic Reporter.

    Take a step back,"Reality";your tiresome,boring ignorant screed showcasing your slavish willingness to repeat the pseudo-"scholarship"of the equally intellectually lazy,who themselves simply echo the dubious findings of others.In short,you've shown yourself(along with others of your ilk)too shallow-minded to do the actual work and/or study required to ascertain the validity of your assertions.Now,speaking from the Christian perspective,the validity of our truth-claims are not really in question;all that's really relevant at this point is 2 things:You believe it,or you don't.That's it.At some of the most prestigious universities and colleges in the U.S and Europe,men and women who have doctorates and scholarly honors based upon decades of Biblical studies in not only the history of our faith,but"boots-on-the-ground"archeological work;to dismiss their lifelong labors(for which they are paid hefty salaries for pursuing these supposed"fairy tales",by the way!!)Is simply ignorant and absurd;if you actually believe your claims have more credibility,what does that say about these great centers of learning? Oxford.Cambridge.Harvard.Princeton.Rutgers.Stanford.I could go on,but I think the point is made.Atheists,sceptics,and the like may mock,deride,ridicule,scorn,and dismiss the Christian worldview to their heart's desire,but when all is said and done,our faith will NEVER be overthrown by the cavillings of any mere human beings,no matter how many alphabets trail their names.So,get a grip and get over yourselves;you're not nearly as clever or smart as you think you are-mull,and reflect,haters-Peace & Love in Christ!

      How you have the nerve to call anyone intellectually lazy, when you are too lazy to use the space bar, is beyond me. Before refuting someone else's post as being ignorant, it would be helful to make sure yours doesn't look ignorant, as well...and ending your little rant with "Peace and Love in Christ" makes you look rather silly, as well.

      Bullsh1t. I am a PhD student at Harvard and the Divinity School has more closet atheists than I can count. Try Harder. Archaeology every day debunks your idiot "faith", and everything about it.

      That is also the Ad Populum Fallacy. Countless Professors of Alchemy and Astrology were also VERY well paid at universities in the past, as well as ALL those who taught the world was flat. Just because third rate universities, and even a few good ones have religion departments with people who are deluded proves nothing. The world is inevitably moving away from religion. Get over it, Larry. You and your ilk are a dying breed. I can name 25 things Archaeology has debunked about the Bible in the last 50 years, including that the Exodus was a myth, as were Abraham, and everything in Genesis.

    Oh why such great punishment? SO great?
    If I could at least remember then perhaps I would slap my own back and slash myself.
    All I can see now is shadow.
    All I want is sleep.
    The Hell, Earth. Why this place?
    Such loveliness allowed while we bask in the suffering.
    Where does such cruelty manifest?
    Who would seek worship on this shipwreck?

      When things go wrong as they sometimes will;
      When the road you're trudging seems all uphill;
      When the funds are low, and the debts are high
      And you want to smile, but have to sigh;
      When care is pressing you down a bit-
      Rest if you must, but do not quit.

      Success is failure turned inside out;
      The silver tint of the clouds of doubt;
      And you can never tell how close you are
      It may be near when it seems so far;
      So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit-
      It's when things go wrong that you must not quit.

      Heaven is a place in Hell.
      A place where Angels and Demons dwell.
      The bell rings, the Devil Swings and on God’s throne he begins to dwell.
      Looking through space and time the duality of the immortals shine.
      The singing begins and the song is one of the infinite.
      Universes are sung, galaxies too.
      Star and planet, me and you.
      But we can hear the singing not.
      For we are here on this planet caught.
      The web we weave to cry and deceive.
      Robs us of our own immortal lot.

    These Godless evil-doers believe in the lies of the talmud, believing only in the lies of satan an ignoring Jesus' truth. My boyfriend changed the oil in his truck so I can cook deep-fried cheese again. If you are not a practicing Christian that shows your love for Jesus, then you automatically belong to satan's team.

      You have the chance of repenting for your sins to Jesus, ask Him if you can get closer to Him, and of course, sin no more. My 12-year-old daughter is very popular at school, the high school. Prideful atheists will never join my father in Heaven.

  11. And in REAL religious news not reported here . . .

    Islamic authorities in Maldives will lash a girl 100 times for (here comes Douglas!) fornication. Ain't god grand!

    Proposition 8 comes before the Supreme Court in a month, and President Obama has filed a brief supporting the overturn of the statute. The Defense of Marriage Act also is up for review. Will the court face up to the reality of the "equal protections" clause, or will they weasel out on some narrow interpretation?

    Could be a whopper of a defeat for religion!

  18. Reality

    Spreading the Good News other than we are "pope-free" for a few weeks:

    Putting the kibosh/”google” on all religion in less than ten seconds: Priceless !!! (so who needs a pope?)

    • As far as one knows or can tell, there was no Abraham i.e. the foundations of Judaism, Christianity and Islam are non-existent.

    • As far as one knows or can tell, there was no Moses i.e the pillars of Judaism, Christianity and Islam have no strength of purpose.

    • There was no Gabriel i.e. Islam fails as a religion. Christianity partially fails.

    • There was no Easter i.e. Christianity completely fails as a religion.

    • There was no Moroni i.e. Mormonism is nothing more than a business cult.

    • Sacred/revered cows, monkey gods, castes, reincarnations and therefore Hinduism fails as a religion.

    • Fat Buddhas here, skinny Buddhas there, reincarnated/reborn Buddhas everywhere makes for a no on Buddhism.

    Added details available upon written request.

    A quick search will put the kibosh on any other groups calling themselves a religion.

    e.g. Taoism

    "The origins of Taoism are unclear. Traditionally, Lao-tzu who lived in the sixth century is regarded as its founder. Its early philosophic foundations and its later beliefs and rituals are two completely different ways of life. Today (1982) Taoism claims 31,286,000 followers.

    Legend says that Lao-tzu was immaculately conceived by a shooting star; carried in his mother's womb for eighty-two years; and born a full grown wise old man. "
