Cardinals look to future after Benedict's exit

By Laura Smith-Spark, Richard Allen Greene and Hada Messia, CNN

Rome (CNN) - With the dust still settling from Benedict XVI's historic resignation as pope, the focus in Rome turns to the future Friday as Roman Catholic cardinals prepare to meet to discuss a timetable for picking the new pontiff.

A letter issued by the dean of the College of Cardinals on Friday calls the cardinals to come together Monday morning for the first in a series of meetings, known as general congregations.

There will be a second session Monday afternoon, according to the letter from Cardinal Angelo Sodano.

One of the cardinals' first tasks will be agreeing when to hold the secret election, or conclave, in which they will pick Benedict's successor.

However, the date for the conclave may not be set Monday, Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi said Friday.

Atheist posts: Contain sarcasm, lies, vulgarity, disbelief, profanity and other vicious nonsense. They exert a large amount of wasted and foolish energy trying to disprove God. Yet, they realize that everything we see couldn't have just popped out of nothingness into existence into highly complicated and structured life forms. An Intelligent Designer (Genesis chapter 1) is the Architect of all things we see. Science says that life can only produce life (Biogenesis).

Nobody says the universe "popped out of nothing" except you, CC. You're the one who thinks a giant fairy snapped its fingers and all of it suddenly appeared.

You can lie to yourself if you want; I prefer honesty. I don't know how the universe began. Neither do you. No one does. You just can't stand the idea that there's uncertainty. I can.

Don't mistake this for sarcasm, lies, vulgarity etc., I mean you no harm or even disrespect, but like most Christians you seem to have cultivated a very special view of the world that maintains your belief that you are the object of love from an all-powerful, all-present being that will always protect you and guarantees to bring you into eternal life with it. I'm sure you're very comfortable in this state, so I can't think of a good reason to try to talk you out of it, but in the end it's a fiction, and when you die, happily I hope, there will just be nil.

Then Jesus was led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit to be tempted there by the devil. For forty days and nights He ate nothing and became very hungry. Then the devil came and said to Him, If You are the Son of God, change these stones into bread. But Jesus told him, NO! THE SCRIPTURES SAY PEOPLE NEED MORE THAN BREAD OR THEIR LIFE; THEY MUST FEED ON EVERY WORD OF GOD." Matthew 4:1-4...

Jesus Christ fulfilled 108 specific OT prophecies concerning the Messiah many hundreds of years before He arrived in the flesh to undoubtedly prove He is the Son of the living God and Savior. Read Psalm 22, Isaiah 53 for starters. The bible is the true word of God without error. John hapter 1 says Christ is the Word...

IncorrectlyOffcenter, since you're busily dumping bible quotes on us, stop and take a look at this stuff from the mean ole Christian sky fairy in the Christian book of horrors:

    Numbers 31:17-18
17 Now kiII all the boys. And kiII every woman who has slept with a man,
18 but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.

Deuteronomy 13:6 – “If your brother, your mother’s son or your son or daughter, or the wife you cherish, or your friend who is as your own soul entice you secretly, saying, let us go and serve other gods … you shall surely kill him; your hand shall be first against him to put him to death”

Revelations 2:23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

    Leviticus 25
44 “‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves.
45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property.
46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.

Note that the bible is also very clear that you should sacrifice and burn an animal today because the smell makes sicko Christian sky fairy happy. No, you don't get to use the parts for food. You burn them, a complete waste of the poor animal.

Yes, the bible really says that, everyone. Yes, it's in Leviticus, look it up. Yes, Jesus purportedly said that the OT commands still apply. No exceptions. But even if you think the OT was god's mistaken first go around, you have to ask why a perfect, loving enti-ty would ever put such horrid instructions in there. If you think rationally at all, that is.

And then, if you disagree with my interpretation, ask yourself how it is that your "god" couldn't come up with a better way to communicate than a book that is so readily subject to so many interpretations and to being taken "out of context", and has so many mistakes in it. Pretty pathetic god that you've made for yourself.

So get out your sacrificial knife or your nasty sky creature will torture you eternally. Or just take a closer look at your foolish supersti-tions, understand that they are just silly, and toss them into the dustbin with all the rest of the gods that man has created.

Ask the questions. Break the chains. Join the movement.

there is so much insanity in the bible, it's hard to know where to start.

      the bible:
      10% love & compassion
      10% obedience training
      20% confusing and nonsensical
      30% ignorance and wrong information
30% violence and prejudice (racial, misogyny, h.omophobia, etc.)

the bible mentions unicorns seven times. unicorns are in children's fairy tales. also satyrs, dragons and c.ockatrice. a talking donkey and talking snake. a guy lives in the belly of a whale for 3 days - like in Pinocchio. the bible says the earth is flat and the sun revolves around the earth. the bible says to kill non-virgin brides, g.ays, disobedient children and anyone working the weekend.

cognitive thinking - it's not underrated. get up off your knees and think for yourself. realize christianity is no different than any other religion you don't believe in. religion is dangerously silly.

    Hey Bob,

I'll tell you and any other atheist posting here that God revealed the Law to Moses to IDENTIFY sin and what God is against. Since the Israelites were in the wilderness at the time, THEY didn't have any supermax security prison for murderers, rapists, theives, perverts, etc. They didn't have any drug rehab centers, AA meetings, probation officers to report to, crisis management centers, abortion centers like we do today. No fortune 500 companies to work for, you were either a land owner, shepherd or servant.

Our nation is fast becoming a disfunctional society because we have kicked God and the bible out of our public schools in the early 1960's, when America lost it's first war and our culture started to rebel with mind altering drugs, free love and defiance against civilization. The nation's youth today are disfunctional due to addictions from drugs, alcohol, kids having kids, kids aborting kids, laziness, rebellion against their parents and kids attempting to run the household. Godlessness will lead to these types of disfunctions. And remember, throughout history, godless didctators like Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Roman Emperors, and other wannabee tyrants hated Christians too! Many millions were slaughtered throughout the centuries due to tyrannical, power hungry atheists types. And no, I'm not Catholic and I know about the atrocities of the popes throughout the centuries. I'm a true believer in Jesus Christ, not someone who submits to man-made rituals, edicts, traditions of a false religion...

You get an epic fail on that post, IncorrectlyOffcenter. Other than an excess of gun crimes by rabid nuts of your ilk thanks to too many guns, for the most part, we are far better off than we were 50 years ago, and 100 years ago. Our present standard of living, level of healthcare, access to education, and various other quality of life considerations make that very clear.

So go back and think your dishonest post and your disgusting Christian delusions through a bit more thoroughly. You suck. While you're at it, take a closer look at what's really in the owner's manual of your sicko blood cult. Fine stuff like this:

Christians are the dumbest people on the face of the Earth, and here is why:

Not only do they actually believe in mythology and fairy tales (lots of other religions do too) but they have no spiritual center. For Christians, everything is centered around money, gossip, politics, etc.

Where is the soul searching? Meditation? Communing with nature? Celebration of life?

Christians care about one thing: How do I look to others?

    Christians are dumb as hell

The evidence is clear. Jesus as a child was a classic “bully”. If he were alive today he would be the target he would be considered a big part of the problem in our society. There is no question he would be in prison for the children he bullied and even killed. Jesus was a bad apple from the start.

I guess when we think of Jesus Christ we often imagine the poor carpenter who became mad, delusional, and preached a message which had nothing to do with real life. But in fact Jesus Christ was a King. Jesus Christ was a descendant of the Jewish King David, and thus he was royal. Yet, decisive was not that Jesus was a relative of David but that he shared the same Holy Spirit of God. In the Garden Gethsemane Jesus remained obedient although he expected the cruzifixion. Never in history anybody or any human being had to stand such a high pressure like Jesus in the Garden Gethsemane. It was the greatest deed which a human being has ever accomplished, the deed of a real King. For this deed the man Jesus was rewarded with eternal leadership by God himself. The man Jesus has become the eternal ruler of the Universe because he remained in God despite superhuman temptation.

In contrast to the pope Jesus Christ never aspired after honor, power and riches but took care of the people of Israel, cured many of them, forgave them their sins. Jesus Christ was a Redeemer, also a King. Jesus was the legitimate King of Israel, he had had the right to size the throne but like David he commended his case to God. It is only a matter of a short period of time when Jesus Christ will be revealed as ruler of the Universe. Up to this point of time we can come to him, and worship him as our Redeemer. He was meek and humble like a lamb, and through this he became God's Passover Lamb for us. If we believe in him we get released. The sin (sin is just egoism or selfishness, the opposite of Christian love to our fellow human beings) gets dethroned, and we become able to overcome the lust of our body, and able to love God and our neighbour.

Of course, Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and Mary was a virgin. Yet, take in account that Mary and Joseph were a couple, and hence via Joseph Jesus was a relative of David.

The Roman Catholic Church (RCC) is a strict hierarchy with the pope as her head. Hence, the RCC is not Christ's body but the pope's body. The head of the true Christian Church is the invisible Jesus Christ who is man and God at the same time.

The pope is not a Christian bishop because he is not concerned about the soul's health of the Catholics. The pope is only interested in honor, power and riches.

When we read the Bible we have to distinguish between the carnal Peter and the spiritual Peter. During the lifetime of Jesus the disciples had a lot of argument whom of them would be the greatest one. They could imagine to be honored and getting high positions by the people of Israel because they were friends of Israel's Messiah. They could imagine to become the new spiritual leaders of Israel instead of the Scribes and Pharisees. Jesus often admonished his disciples including Peter that they should not aspire for honor and power but take care of the people. Yet, up to resurrection they did not understand him. At first after Pentecost they started to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ enduring hard persecution by the religious establishment of Israel.

Has the pope ever been persecuted? No! The pope is the successor of the carnal Peter who wanted to found a new religious establishment in Israel. The pope is the leader of a religious establishment which regards the ordinary Catholics as damned common herd which they are allowed to reign, to patronize, to millk.

Even after the resurrection Jesus Christ had to tell Peter that he should pasture his sheep if he would really love him. If the pope wants become a Christian he should start to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and should endure to be mocked by the world.

From the pope's corrupt rule all other corrupt rules are derived. He has become a forerunner of the Antichrist which resembles our current politicians which are not concerned about the happiness of their peoples but only are concerned about their personal honor, power and wealth. They are not ashamed to milk the common herd, us, the tax payers.

    Signori Cardinali RCC,

    • Sacro / venerato mucche, divinità scimmia, caste, reincarnazioni e quindi fallisce l'induismo come religione.

    • Fat Buddha qui, magro Buddha lì, reincarnati / rinato Buddha fa in tutto il mondo per un no sul Buddismo.

Aggiunto dettagli disponibili su richiesta scritta.

" O nations of the world, recognize the LORD; recognize that the LORD is glorious and strong. Give to the LORD the glory He deserves! Bring your offering and come to worship Him." Psalm 96:7-8...

... or, you can try this one:

O Lord Ganesha who has a large body, curved trunk and brightness of a million suns, please remove all obstacles in my work always.

We pray to the supreme and perfect male (tadapurusḥāya) who is omnipresent (viddhamahe). We meditate upon and pray for greater intellect (dhīmahi) to the Lord with the curved, elephant-shaped trunk (vakratunḍāya). We bow before the one with the single-tusked elephant tooth (tanno danti) to illuminate our minds with wisdom (pracodayāt).

Read Matthew 18:20 if you wish. I will pray that some day the LORD will lead you to start reading God's word and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior...

      Matt 18: 20, "

For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them."

Said passage is a single attestation appearing no where else in the NT and therefore historically nil. See for example, Professor Gerd Ludemann's review in his book, Jesus After 2000 Years.

  18. AB - Preacher Man

If you get ‘em in the right spot they are not listening. They are so much so not listening, I could talk about anything. I could talk about my mom’s banana bread recipe. You don’t think so? When I go back in there, I will preach a banana bread sermon…I but ya ten bucks.

“Do you believe if you go ahead and allow the holy ghost into your heart that you can be cleansed of all your sins and ascend to the kingdom of God? That is what I’m talkin’ about, can I get an amen? Can I get a hallelujah? Do you know if you take two ripe bananas and you put ‘em in a bowl and you put some sugar and you go ahead and bake it at 400 you can pull it out and have yourself banana bread? Hallelujah! Hallelujah, yes you can!”

    See?

Christians, if Paul needed dead Jesus to appear to him in order to believe, then why can't I expect Jesus to visit me? Then I would believe, just like Paul.
