Is he the new Energizer bunny?
Were catholics, papists, romanists out of zest?
Does that means they don't drink the "holy water"?
Would not the "holy water" be a better alternative?

Wow! I guess they’ve finally got us! The fact that God does not make missing limbs grow back must absolutely prove beyond any shadow of a doubt that God does not exist! I guess its time to close down our churches, hospitals, clinics, homeless shelters, pregnancy centers, schools, charities, youth programs, drug rehabilitation programs, orphanages, and mission agencies!

Lack of regneration doesn't disprove 'god' and I'm not aware of any reasonable atheists making such claims. Most atheists simply reject claims made by men about the existance of 'gods'. As for charity – there are many atheist humanists that donate to, volunteer at, and aid charitable causes. Why do you hang your willingness to help others on the existance of a god? Would you turn your back on those in need if you knew there was no god? Seems shallow.

Recliner. People can do good deeds; they don't a church or religion to guide them. If you have any proof of your god's omnipotence and omniscience, provide it. While you claim those attributes for it and it doesn't use them to prevent human suffering nor to fix human suffering, then those claims are worthless.

    • But your god absolutely promises to answer prayer

Recliner "Wow! I guess they’ve finally got us! The fact that God does not make missing limbs grow back must absolutely prove beyond any shadow of a doubt that God does not exist!"....

The problem is that your god absolutely guaranties to grant the prayers of the faithful. So when we find a prayer that is never answered, no matter how faithful the amputee, no matter how hard he prays or how many other people pray for him, it demonstrates that your god is either impotent, a liar or imaginary....

In Matthew 17:20 Jesus reiterates that same message:
For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you."
Jesus says something similar in Matthew 21:21:
I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

@Truth Prevails. I wouldn't know. My child was raised on the bible, and so I never had any problems with her disobeying. I began studying the bible with my daughter as soon as i knew she had been concieved.
And so it was with ancient Israel...though old laws required disobedient children to be executed, not one ever was. Disobeying their parents was just something children never thought of when God's laws ruled.

If the bible commanded you to be as promiscuous as you want, drunk when ya want, and free to do drugs and to be overly obese, you would convert.

Washington was the first President under the current const.itution. Prior to that, under the Articles of Confederation there were Presidents of the US under Congress As sembled – but they were elected by congress, not 'the people'. And there were 14, actually, not 6, beginning with Peyton Randolph. John Hanson was 8th (under the AofC)....He was not 'black', or 'african american'......

  9. State laws

The diffference between State laws that you obey and laws recorded in the bible that you ignore is found in the wisdom of those words.
State laws allow for overeating, overdrinking, over se xing, and over medicating/drugging where these are things banned in the bible.
It is not wise to overeat, for example.

Overeating isn't wise – true – but one need not look to a bible to acquire this wisdom; one can simply look at evidence, here, on earth.

You know the bible also has many 'laws' that are s e.xist, bigoted, immoral, inhumane and unethical too.... have you read your bible? or just the versus that agree with your world view?

    March 18, 2013 at 1:14 pm |
  17. Over 40,000 denominations of insanity

Some believe the Pope is the Anti-Christ.

Some believe that celibacy is appropriate for certain people, or for certain positions. It's ridiculous. Celibacy is unnatural and will continue to cause problems for the religious institutions that employ it.

Many of the people from these same institutions advocate against abortion, but don't understand the realistic benefit of the morning after pill or even basic contraception; their unrealistic wishful thinking is causing the death of many at the hands of disease. Realistically, many abortions could be avoided if a morning-after pill were not viewed as such an evil option. Many of these same people bring children into the world at a high pace, and then would prefer that the rest of society take over and educate their children in their particular brand of religion when they don't plan well.

In the U.S. recently we learned of the head of Lutheran CMS chastising a minister of that church for participating in a joint service for the victims of the Newtown school shooting.

One sect calls homosexuality an abomination while the next one in the same denomination is already performing gay marriage.

One sect, the Westboro Baptist Church believes Americans are being killed at war because America is too kind to "fags".

One sect believes that Jesus and Satan were brothers and that Christ will return to Jerusalem AND Jackson County, Missouri.

One sect believes women to be subservient, while another sect in the same denomination promotes equality between the sexes.

Conflicted right from the very beginning, Christianity continues to splinter and create divisions and more extremism as it goes.

    =================================================
Has anything improved with Christianity since 200+ years ago?

Thomas Jefferson, POTUS #3 (from Notes on the State of Virginia):

Millions of innocent men, women, and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined, imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity. What has been the effect of coercion? To make one half the world fools, and the other half hypocrites. To support roguery and error all over the earth.

James Madison, POTUS #4, chief architect of the U.S. Constitution & the Bill of Rights (from A Memorial and Remonstrance delivered to the Virginia General Assembly in 1785):

During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been its fruits? More or less in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry, and persecution.

John Adams, POTUS #2 (in a letter to Thomas Jefferson, 09/03/1816):

I almost shudder at the thought of alluding to the most fatal example of the abuses of grief which the history of mankind has preserved – the Cross. Consider what calamities that engine of grief has produced! With the rational respect that is due to it, knavish priests have added prostitutions of it, that fill or might fill the blackest and bloodiest pages of human history.

Ben Franklin (from a letter to The London Packet, 3 June 1772):

If we look back into history for the character of present sects in Christianity, we shall find few that have not in their turns been persecutors, and complainers of persecution. The primitive Christians thought persecution extremely wrong in the Pagans, but practised it on one another. The first Protestants of the Church of England, blamed persecution in the Roman church, but practised it against the Puritans: these found it wrong in the Bishops, but fell into the same practice themselves both here and in New England.

Thomas Paine (from The Age of Reason):

All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.

Putting the kibosh/”google” on all religion in less than ten seconds: Priceless !!!

(And only for the new members of this blog.)

    • As far as one knows or can tell, there was no Abraham i.e. the foundations of Judaism, Christianity and Islam are non-existent.

    • As far as one knows or can tell, there was no Moses i.e the pillars of Judaism, Christianity and Islam have no strength of purpose.

    • There was no Gabriel i.e. Islam fails as a religion. Christianity partially fails.

    • There was no Easter i.e. Christianity completely fails as a religion.

    • There was no Moroni i.e. Mormonism is nothing more than a business cult.

    • Sacred/revered cows, monkey gods, castes, reincarnations and therefore Hinduism fails as a religion.

    • Fat Buddhas here, skinny Buddhas there, reincarnated/reborn Buddhas everywhere makes for a no on Buddhism.

Added details available upon written request.

A quick search will put the kibosh on any other groups calling themselves a religion.

    e.g. Taoism

"The origins of Taoism are unclear. Traditionally, Lao-tzu who lived in the sixth century is regarded as its founder. Its early philosophic foundations and its later beliefs and rituals are two completely different ways of life. Today (1982) Taoism claims 31,286,000 followers.

Legend says that Lao-tzu was immaculately conceived by a shooting star; carried in his mother's womb for eighty-two years; and born a full grown wise old man. "

    • Truth Prevails :-)

Some actual evidence (at least sensible and trustworthy):

"There is no single, simple answer to explain the obesity patterns" in America, says Walter Willett, who chairs the department of nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health. "Part of this is due to lower incomes and education, which result in purchases of cheap foods that are high in refined starch and sugar. More deeply, this also reflects lower public investment in education, public transportation, and recreational facilities," he says. The bottom line: cheap, unhealthy foods mixed with a sedentary lifestyle has made obesity the new normal in America. And that makes it even harder to change, Willett says.

Nowhere in the article is belief/disbelief brought up. The article does say "America's so-called "red" states tend to have higher rates of obesity"...those would be Republican states and thus largely believers.
