EW: 'The Bible' finale ratings rival 'The Walking Dead'

By James Hibberd, EW.com

(Entertainment Weekly)–History’s The Bible miniseries finale delivered the show’s largest audience since its record-setting premiere. The network reports that 11.7 million viewers watched the two-hour conclusion on Easter Sunday, despite The Bible airing against heavy cable competition during its second hour — AMC’s The Walking Dead had its season finale and HBO’s Game of Thrones had its season premiere, with both geek titans setting ratings records.

In fact, during the 9 p.m. hour when The Bible and The Walking Dead ran head to head, the shows were basically tied with 12.3 million viewers (The Walking Dead rises to 12.4 million when you include its full 65-minute telecast). It’s a strong performance for the religious miniseries that few expected to be a ratings competitor.

Every letter of a word has meanings of its own, seeds to grow crop of words for humanity to communicate. From seeds of letters, blocks are created and than blocks are combined to create words to communicate intentions of a person. Word ATHEIST MEANS, A SELF CENTERED, DENIER OF TRUTH ABSOLUTE, OR A PERSON CLAIMING HIMSELF TO BE TRUTH ABSOLUTE GOD, A HINDU SHAMAN, A CROOK SPEAKING BY HIS SOUL, DESIRE, NOT OF TRUTH ABSOLUTE OF A MATTER. Atheism is not of human, but in line with mind set of a animals. Following words are best example to identify Atheism.
Letter D, means, THE. Vowel O, represents, QUANTIFIED AND Letter G is result of one s intention from his mind and heart. Sounded Ga. meaning a secular, self centered by intention in opposition to truth absolute by intention. or an atheist,
Letter M means essence or choice of an intention, Vowel O represents Quantified. Letter N means enshrined or established. Letter K identifies function of a noun. Vowel E represents unity of an adjective and a noun in essence. Letter Y means Ye, from heart and mind, base of word Yes. Meaning by self choice, with dis regard to truth absolute, a Secular, self centered or an atheist,
Letter D, means THE, Vowel O means QUANTIFIED, Letter N means established or enshrined. Letter K identifies function of a noun. Vowel E represents unity of an adjective and a noun in essence. Letter Y means Ye, from heart and mind, base of word Yes. Meaning by self choice, with dis regard to truth absolute, a Secular, self centered or an atheist,
As a matter of fact, word ANIMAL means nothing else, but a atheist, self centered or denier of truth absolute.
Atheism, self center ism is way of animals and hindrance negativity to truth absolute GOD, foundation of consti tution of USA and universe and source for existence of everything in existence, otherwise known as constant.

God in Quran says, (Islamic scripture)

“Does the human being not see that we created him from a tiny drop, then he turns into an ardent enemy?” [36:77]

“He raises a question to us – while forgetting his initial creation – "Who can resurrect the bones after they had rotted?" [36:78

‘Say, "The One who initiated them in the first place will resurrect them. He is fully aware of every creation." [36:79]

“They even attribute to Him sons and daughters, without any knowledge. Be He glorified. He is the Most High, far above their claims.” Quran [6:100]

“The example of Jesus, as far as GOD is concerned, is the same as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him, "Be," and he was.” Quran [3:59]

‘They said, "You have to be Jewish or Christian, to be guided." Say, "We follow the religion of Abraham – monotheism – he never was an idol worshiper." [2:135]

“Proclaim, He is the One and only GOD. The Absolute GOD. Never did He beget. Nor was He begotten. None equals Him." [112:1]

“The Messiah, son of Mary is no more than a messenger like the messengers before him, and his mother was a saint. Both of them used to eat the food. Note how we explain the revelations for them, and note how they still deviate!” [5:75]

“It does not befit God that He begets a son, be He glorified. To have anything done, He simply says to it, "Be," and it is.” [19:35]

“No soul can carry the sins of another soul. If a soul that is loaded with sins implores another to bear part of its load, no other soul can carry any part of it, even if they were related. ... [35:18]

“They do not value God as He should be valued. God is the Most Powerful, the Almighty.”[22:74]

“If you obey the majority of people on earth, they will divert you from the path of God. They follow only conjecture; they only guess.” [Quran 6:116]

“There shall be no compulsion in religion: the right way is now distinct from the wrong way. Anyone who denounces the devil and believes in God has grasped the strongest bond; one that never breaks. God is Hearer, Omniscient.” [2:256]

“O people, here is a parable that you must ponder carefully: the idols you set up beside God can never create a fly, even if they banded together to do so. Furthermore, if the fly steals anything from them, they cannot recover it; weak is the pursuer and the pursued.” [22:73]

Looking at the actual data tells a different story. The Bible series only did well among senior citizens. Of the 12 million Bible viewers, only 3.5 million – under a third- were under 50. Compare that to the Walking Dead, where the vast majority (8.1 million) were under 50. Is it news that there is little interest in the Bible among parents and young adults today, and that most of the interest in the Bible is confined to senior citizens? I don't think that's all that surprising or important – unless you run a nursing home, I guess.

Both shows were fictional portrayals of zombies. I'd imagine the demographic overlapped as a result.

TV stats are for ratings only, momentary, and they DO NOT necessarily reflect the Faith demographics!

Those who watched 'The Walking Dead' are not necessarily disinterested in "The Bible" series! It's just a different viewing interest at the moment! When they grow older (e.g. over 50,) I am pretty sure a lot of them will change their viewing interests and watch "The Bible" like series over "The Walking Dead" like series!

BTW, 86% of Americans believe in God!!!

      April 3, 2013 at 1:33 pm |

"86% of Americans believe in God!!!" That doesn't mean they believe in the concept of god as portrayed in the bible or the concept of the trinity or Jesus divinity.

That doesn't mean they believe in the concept of god as portrayed in the bible or the concept of the trinity or Jesus divinity.

It also doesn't mean they are telling the truth. If someone lies and says that they believe in God when they really don't, do they get extra flames and pitchforks in hell?

Where Jesus Christ is, and He sent the Holy Spirit in His place:

    Matthew 12:40
"40 for just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."

    Matthew 28:6
"6 He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying."

    Mark 16:6
"6 And he said to them, “Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him."

    1 Corinthians 15:4
"4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"

    Revelation 1:18
"18 and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades."

    John 14:3
"3 If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also."

    John 14:16-18
"16 I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; 17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also."

    John 14:26
"26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you."

    John 17:5
"5 Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was."

    Luke 24:50,51
"50 And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. 51 While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven."

    Mark 16:19
"So then, when the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God."

    Hebrews 1:1-3
"1 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. 3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,"

Indeed, Pamukkale' springs, which produce the famous white travertine terraces originate from this cave.”

You call human as ‘Donkey’ or ‘filthy’ or so on… subhanallah (Glory to The Almighty who has no partners and no sons and no association and how is so merciful to the entire creation) Quran call following about the entire creation and the creation of human:

Who perfected everything which He created and began the creation of man from clay. – 32:2

By the fig and the olive, And [by] Mount Sinai, And [by] this secure city [Makkah], We have certainly created man in the best of stature; – 95:1-4

And you are calling a human regardless of his/her faith as donkey and others… aren’t you contradicting yourself?

Well, I wish you the best…

    To Dear Toad:
There is only One Power who is THE creator of the heavens and the earth and anything between them which of course included human… there is no second power…. Its human comes up with their idea and associates whatever they feel by using their “free will” given to them by their Creator… and every single one of human will be standing in front of The Power on that day where there will no counselor to talk on behalf of him… his own limbs will be testifying against him… I am glad that you attributed me with that… actually its not something new in this time… its been there since the beginning… i.e. every prophet were called madman by their people… lets just take the example of Jesus that during his time he was called whatever the Jew at that time called him and until today including the followers are also making him what he was not… its like accusing someone with something that he was… but does anyone being punished in this life? NO, every accountability will be on that day… also from that day there will be no coming back and doing good things and go back… they will be told that you had your chance… even Quran gives example what they will be wishing to be… they will be wishing to be a dust so that dust will not have to go thru the judgment…

We ask The Almighty to have mercy on all of us and judge us with His mercy and not His justice… amine

      And your point?

      The point....is Tacos.

      April 2, 2013 at 9:03 pm |
    • The real Tom

Damn you, HG. Now I want a taco so much.

      LOL. It's just basic math.

Frenchman + Egyptian stone = Taco
      Makes perfect sense.

    • The real Tom

      Ah. NOW I get it.

(not really, but then math is anathema to me. Tacos, on the other hand, are not.)

  17. Irrational Exuberance

So "the greatest story ever told" redux, tied a comic book.

Of course The Bible was edited a bit, the original material being a horribly inconsistent mess.

I think Lycidas meant to respond to another post, for that made no sense at all in context.

    • The real Tom

Lycidas, did you watch the series? If so, what was your opinion?

      April 2, 2013 at 7:50 pm |
    • Lycidas

The real Tom- "Lycidas, did you watch the series? If so, what was your opinion?"

I watched a few parts of it. It wasn't bad. It wasn't for the theologian who would want every line uttered to have came diretly from the Biblical text. It wasn't for the ones who are not Christian and have no desire to be Christian as a faith. It was for the layperson who knows the stories but won't bicker over the fine points and for those who might just want to watch a nice story.

Lycidas, "Celt" is not defined by Christianity. It is an ethnicity, and Christians are not the overlord deciders. Where did you get that weird idea?

      April 2, 2013 at 9:19 pm |
    • Lycidas

"Lycidas, "Celt" is not defined by Christianity. It is an ethnicity, and Christians are not the overlord deciders. Where did you get that weird idea?"

No..but in the context of the one I was answering there is such a thing as Christianity based off of celtic tradition.
I don't believe I said anything about Christians being overlord deciders...you may want to keep your wild speculations down.

The Celts don't really exist anymore. Not in the Christian sense anyway.

That would be news to the people of Ireland. And the thousands of people who practice traditional Celtic spirituality (both in its original Pagan form and the Christian).

  18. True Religious Story the Belief Blog Just Happened to Miss

From the BBC to Bill Deacon:

"A Catholic priest has pleaded guilty to selling methamphetamine from his flat in the US state of Connecticut. Kevin Wallin admitted making more than $300,000 (£200,000) from drugs sent to him from California. The 61-year-old bought an adult video and sex toy shop, Land of Oz and Dorothy's Place, to launder the drug money, prosecutors said. Wallin is due to be sentenced on 25 June. The sentence, already agreed, is between 11 and 14 years in jail. Prosecutors said Wallin had sold nearly 4lb (1.8kg) of methamphetamine."

Glad the Catholic Church got that priest situation under control.

    April 2, 2013 at 6:40 pm |
    • .

Unless every priest everywhere is doing the same exact thing, this falls under the heading of SO?? This is a criminal thing, not a RC thing.

Don't worry, Bill will have an excuse for this.

  19. The Four Cuddly Kittens of the Apocalypse

So if they had not put it head-to-head with "The Walking Dead", and they named it "Tales of the Zombie Hippy of Nazareth", would their ratings have improved?

    April 2, 2013 at 6:32 pm |
    • Lycidas

Considering that Jesus was neither a hippy or a zombie...ummm....no.

    • Christianity is a form of SEVERE mental illness

Jesus was clearly a form of a zombie

      April 2, 2013 at 8:12 pm |
    • Lycidas

Christianity is a form of SEVERE mental illness- "Jesus was clearly a form of a zombie"

More opaque actually. Since he couldn't have been a voodoo zombie (considering voodoo only exists because of Christianity and all that...but I'm sure you knew that didn't you?) and he couldn't have been a hollywood zombie (Night of the Living Dead, Walking Dead..etc) because he was alive after his resurrection.

You do know that the modern post 1968 "zombie" is a corpse that moves right? Clearly the Biblical Jesus doesn't fit that in any shape or form.

I forgive you of your vast ignorance on this subject ahead of time.

      April 2, 2013 at 8:59 pm |
    • Zingo

Okay, if Lycidas says Jesus was an opaque zombie, then so be it. I really would not expect light to pass through a zombie anyway.

Was dead, then "Not" but still moving. Still showed wounds, etc. from execution... other than a definitive lack of wanting to eat brains, I'd say he qualifies for the "hollywood" version quite well...

      April 3, 2013 at 12:17 pm |
    • Lycidas

"Was dead, then "Not" but still moving."

I don't think you've seen any zombie films. There is no "was dead" with zombies. They are dead and decomposing. Sadly for the hecklers on here that try to be clever...those conditions were never used to describe Jesus in the texts.
