Opinion: Don't scapegoat a faith for bombings

Editor's note: Farhana Khera is the president and executive director of Muslim Advocates, a national legal advocacy organization dedicated to promoting freedom, justice and equality for all, regardless of faith.

By Farhana Khera, Special to CNN

(CNN) - Like so many Americans across the country, I was shocked when I heard of the attacks at the Boston Marathon. A part of me immediately traveled back to when I was cheering runners myself as a student at Wellesley College, the midpoint for the marathon, a time when such dangers as bombings never crossed our minds.

Boston is an indelible part in the personal history and identity of those who have lived or attended school in the city. That someone had detonated bombs at an event that symbolized unity in a place known for its rich diversity and as a birthplace of our nation's freedom was heartbreaking.

My cousin has been on a crusade around the USA preaching against the evils of Drugs and Alcohol addiction for several years. His companion, Brother Jim, was a major part of the sermon. Jim never spoke, but he would sit on a stool at the end of the stage, staring blankly ahead, belching, farting, scratching his junk, and frequently drooling. This example of what substance abuse can do to a mind was a necessary part of the crusade.
My point: Brother Jim has been called home by god, and my cousin needs a replacement. So Chad, are you busy until august?

I DO hold Islam responsible for (i) keeping its females totally subdued; (ii) providing a proor and backward education for its own people that often involves ignoring science and history to fit into the 6th Century view of the World as dictated by the Qur'an; (iii) impsing a backwards and brutal civil and criminal code on its people; and (iv) generally ensuring that Muslim countries are invariably the lowest, most backward in the World, despite often having vast, vast amounts of oil wealth..

Did you know that what Jesus did was for Jews and not intended for others?

Jesus wanted to fix the Jewish religion not start his own.

Can you verify why Jesus was doing something only for the Jews? there again, is there any Jesus , savior, is we can not even trust his closest followers. Jude. Was he not the half brother of Jesus. And were Peter and Paul disciples?

Give me a break. There is no way the Messiah of the World would be hindered by Jews or an individual with a scandalous and intimidated opinion. You are intimidated by the Lord of salvation. This is why you scramble for deluded meaning.

"And were Peter and Paul disciples?" – Peter was, Paul was an apostle, not a disciple (except in his own mind). Paul changed the religion of Jesus (apolocypitic jew) into a religion ABOUT Jesus (the sacrificial redemption).

If a guy wearing a red tarbush walks into a shop and detonates a bomb- and this is followed by thousands more similar acts by red tarbush wearing guys over say, two decades, we are all going to be wary of guys in red tarbush hats. At some point its going to occur to people that something is really very wrong with what these people are buying into.

Islam, Christianity and Judaism all have had their periods of extreme barbarism...but nobody is supposed to notice. When you have the POTUS on national TV saying "God wills it " before launching a war, Talking about demons with other heads of state??? (Gog and Magog?) – when you have young men shouting "God is great" before they martyr themselves or shoot a woman in the back, then there is a problem with the BS religion these people are subscribing to and should absolutely be called to account.

Human life span = approx: 70 – 80 years on average.

      60 second x 60 minutes x 24 hours x 365 days x 80 years

Total time of lifespan [in seconds]
      == 2,522,880,000

Dividing that number by 5 seconds per killing..

      Maximum number of deaths.

      == 504,576,000

**No eating, no sleeping, no other doings. Except killings. The people who lined themselves up to be killed would really have to wait their turn.

o On the koranic passages and world domination:
"Mohammed could not have known the size of the world, but several passages in the Koran show that he envisioned Islam dominating all of it, however large it might be: “He it is who sent his messenger . . . that he may cause it [Islam] to prevail over all religions´(Koran 9:33, M.M. Ali; see also 48:28 and 61:9). M.M. Ali designates these three passages as “the prophecy of the ultimate triumph of Islam in the whole world.”

Mohammed’s successors, the caliphs, quoted passages like these to inspire Muslim armies as they advanced out of Arabia, imposing Islam by the sword upon a peacefully unsuspecting Middle East and North Africa, as I described in the previous chapter.

Islamic armies, imbued with what Mohammed claimed was divine authorization, imposed Islam by force over vast areas, all the while extorting wealth from subjugated Jews and Christians to fund their ongoing conquests. As I noted, major defeats at Tours, France, in A.D. 732, and again at Vienna, Austria, in A.D. 1683, halted Islam’s attempt to take all of Europe by force. Gradually Islamic forces were forced to retreat from Europe, except for part of the Balkans. But Islam has again set its sights on a conquest of Europe and of European civilization, wherever the latter has spread to North and South America and other regions. Muslim strategists ask their followers, Why do we find in these modern times that Allah has entrusted most of the world’s oil wealth primarily to Muslim nations?

Their answer: Allah foresaw Islam’s need for funds to finance a final politico-religious victory over what Islam perceives as its ultimate enemy: Christianized Euro-American civilization. So, Islam follows Nazism, fascism and communism as the world’s latest hostile takeover aspirant.

Nazis, fascists and communists failed. Does Islam have a better chance at success? I believe it will flounder if we awaken to its threat in time; yet, if there is not adequate planned resistance, Islam does have a better chance of succeeding. Communism’s world takeover attempt was guaranteed to fail because its economic policy was naively contrary to human nature. Advocating the rubric What is mine is thine, and what is thine is mine, communism failed to see that human nature will not keep those two balanced propositions in equilibrium. Like

a female black widow spider consuming her mate, the latter part of the formula makes a meal of the former, leading to the collapse of any system based upon that formula.

In contrast, political systems do well if they can persuade people to adhere to What’s mine is mine and What’s thine is thine maxims.

Only if a strong religious incentive is added does such an idealistic formula have any long-term chance. Even then success will be spotty. But communism (and Nazism, for that matter) excluded religion. And that mistake was the final nail eventually clamping a lid on communism’s coffin. Communism, on a historical scale, perished while still in its childhood.

Islam is not repeating communism’s mistake. Mating political cunning and incredible wealth with religious zeal, Islam does have a chance to succeed and will succeed unless major parts of the Western world unite to take appropriate countermeasures. But many Western leaders, unable to believe that a mere religion could possible be a serious political threat, keep proclaiming themselves as Islam-friendly, reasoning that all religions are good-aren’t they?

A Muslim strategist in Beverly Hills, California, declared several years ago, as quoted by a friend of mine: “Now that the struggle between Western democracies and international communism is winding down, it is time for the real and final struggle to begin, and we are going to win!”

Atheists are those people that, given the divine origin of that which does not exist, are perhaps in power of not believing in that which does not exist but must. It holds then that sacrifice and prayer are the natural bed partners of each frozen moldy rapist in a tie but god dwells within them both and if you can towel off before honey I’m home it tickles less when it hurts.

Soft granite is not hefty hefty enough for the rigid human brain. Too soft! To grainy. The fine pimples of this derelict country sleep heads in the case.

But please understand happy understanding geologic time. There are no people. No creatures, no sun. There is an exchange of positive and negative. No more. Fear the nun.

A smart and experienced beverage connoisseur knows to grip the chalice in three places. NO no tears for spilling or breaking or shaking. There is but only one small channel though which we can navigate. Fortunately, we are very small indeed.

There is no scam of any nature on this planet as perfect as religion. All reward and punishment, hope and fear is built in. You simply cannot lose (or win).

Saying Jesus is the savior will not make it so. John 3:16 by the way is a single attestation in the NT making it historically nil and also many contemporary NT scholars to include Professors Crossan, Ludemann, Borg and Fredriksen have concluded after rigorous analyses that it was not said by the historical Jesus. It was, they conclude, an addition to embellish the life of Jesus to gain converts/money to/for the cause.

See added commentary at http://wiki.faithfutures.org/index.php/350_Jesus_to_Nicodemus and in Professor Crossan's book, The Historical Jesus.

And not according to you, God is guilty of filicide. Please peruse the following before another outburst.

(from Professor Crossan's book, "Who is Jesus" co-authored with Richard Watts)

"Moreover, an atonement theology that says God sacrifices his own son in place of humans who needed to be punished for their sins might make some Christians love Jesus, but it is an obscene picture of God. It is almost heavenly child abuse, and may infect our imagination at more earthly levels as well. I do not want to express my faith through a theology that pictures God demanding blood sacrifices in order to be reconciled to us."

"Traditionally, Christians have said, 'See how Christ's passion was foretold by the prophets." Actually, it was the other way around. The Hebrew prophets did not predict the events of Jesus' last week; rather, many of those Christian stories were created to fit the ancient prophecies in order to show that Jesus, despite his execution, was still and always held in the hands of God."

"In terms of divine consistency, I do not think that anyone, anywhere, at any time, including Jesus, brings dead people back to life."

      April 22, 2013 at 4:28 pm |

Ignorant thinking is exactly what it is...ignorance simply means we do not know.

Religion will tell you they know, when they cannot possibly.

Atheists simply do not jump to the conclusion that goddidit.
That is not to say they believe nothing.
I for one do not think there are any gods, but there are many things in this universe we do not yet know, such as the difference between the chemicals and electricity that make me up, and the person who is having the conversation.

It is the energy we call life, but we have yet to understand or have a working definition of life...we simply do not yet know.

You cannot have spirituality without religion, because it is only religion that defines spirits.

I know we do not have all of the answers and likely never will. But to think for one second that any of these things were influenced by some sentience as we know it is absurd. There is absolutely no evidence of it whatsoever.

The god described in the bible is impossible. The god described in the Quran is impossible. And the other thousands of gods that men have made are so improbable to make the entire belief in any religion laughable.

I believe we will find life on other planets soon, we already have several planets that have been found that are very likely candidates, and since the 4 basic building blocks of life are the 4 most common elements in the universe, it is very probable that life is in many other galaxies. None of them mentioned in any religious text except for the scam religion scientolgy.

and you keep using your when you mean you're. Quit it.

No religion and atheism are vastly different, but relate to a common topic. Like light and dark.Complete darkness is nothing more than a complete absence of light. atheism is a complete absence of religion.

"and you keep using your when you mean you're. Quit it."

He says "there" when it should be "their" too - and quite a few other flubs that show that his thinking processes never advanced beyond the third grade.

You may not like the quote from revelations Hawaii but you cannot deny the logic. There is either a supreme creator of all things known and unknown or there is not. Choose wisely my friend.

Oooo veiled threats with absolutely no backing. One of the last bastions of the intellectually inept such as yourself. Pathetic. You've already run like the coward you are from one thread, why not just run from this one as well you worthless little zealot.

Is irrelevant. Billy does not have the permission of the hierarchy of the RCC to state his lies on this or any other blog. Billy will be saying hail Mary's and some other such BS until he gets right with the bishops, of course the mythical jesus/god doesn't really give a sh1t one way or the other.
