Biden urges faith leaders to pressure lawmakers on background checks

By Adam Aigner-Treworgy, CNN
[twitter-follow screen_name='AdamATCNN']

(CNN) – During a more than two-hour meeting at the White House on Monday, Vice President Joe Biden asked leaders from across the faith community to keep up pressure on lawmakers to support compromise background check legislation even as Congress begins to shift its focus to immigration reform, according to several attendees who spoke to CNN.

Biden urged the roughly 20 faith leaders in attendance not to be discouraged by recent legislative failures, and instead assured them that the White House had not given up.

"Even though he suffered a defeat, he didn't sound defeated," said pastor Michael McBride of the PICO National Network. "And we need that kind of hope from the bully pulpit of the White House."

In the run-up to last month's Senate vote, religious organizations from across the denominational spectrum pressured members of Congress to vote for background check legislation.

Without mentioning the names of any lawmakers, Biden acknowledged the effectiveness of such lobbying efforts and asked those in attendance to continue to target those whose opinions can be swayed.

May 3, 2013 — Opposing thumbs, expressive faces, complex social systems: it's hard to miss the similarities between apes and humans. Now a new study with a troop of zoo baboons and lots of peanuts shows that a less obvious trait – the ability to understand numbers – also is shared by humans and their primate cousins.

Oldest? New 'Bone-Head' Dinosaur Hints at Higher Diversity of Small Dinosaurs

May 7, 2013 — Scientists have named a new species of bone-headed dinosaur (pachycephalosaur) from Alberta, Canada. Acrotholus audeti (Ack-RHO-tho-LUS) was identified from both recently discovered and historically collected fossils. Approximately six feet long and weighing about 40 kilograms in life, the newly identified plant-eating dinosaur represents the oldest bone-headed dinosaur in North America, and possibly the world.

Prayer does not; you are such a LIAR. You have NO proof it changes anything! A great example of prayer proven not to work is the Christians in jail because prayer didn't work and their children died. For example: Susan Grady, who relied on prayer to heal her son. Nine-year-old Aaron Grady died and Susan Grady was arrested.

An article in the Journal of Pediatrics examined the deaths of 172 children from families who relied upon faith healing from 1975 to 1995. They concluded that four out of five ill children, who died under the care of faith healers or being left to prayer only, would most likely have survived if they had received medical care.

The statistical studies from the nineteenth century and the three CCU studies on prayer are quite consistent with the fact that humanity is wasting a huge amount of time on a procedure that simply doesn’t work. Nonetheless, faith in prayer is so pervasive and deeply rooted, you can be sure believers will continue to devise future studies in a desperate effort to confirm their beliefs!

Atheism is a default objective position on the subject of theism.
      .
A baby is born without any religious beliefs in a tabula rasa state of mind (not completely blank but blank where theism is concerned) that is the level of belief in anything at all, including superbeings, is zero to a newborn baby.
      .
In LOGIC, it is a starting position, a default position, to have no conclusions until data has been processed to the point where a conclusion is possible..
      .
In having zero evidence for a god, the default position remains a lack of a conclusion, a lack of a belief, because no evidence has yet been presented.
      .
Again, atheism is a lack of a position on the question of theism.

There is no conclusion drawn because there is no evidence upon which to base a conclusion.
There is no conclusion POSSIBLE without any data.
      .
The question should never arise, but we are surrounded by crazy people, so the question does arise: Do we have a conclusion? What is our answer? We are atheist because no evidence has appeared.
We don't "believe" no evidence has appeared, we KNOW it. We KNOW there is nothing to support the idea of a god whatsoever.
There is no doctrine to atheism. There is no baseless conclusion (belief) about there being no gods because it is the insistence upon having a basis upon which to draw a conclusion that leads back to the default position.
It is not a religion. It is not a philosophical position. It is a lack of one.
If there was a god there would be evidence and it would be testable, examinable, viewable, hearable, whateverable.
      There is NOTHING.
      .
In fact, there is just the opposite: The COUNTERINDICATIONS that any gods exist. Religion is fraud and brainwashing.
That is a fact. It is provable. It is testable. We have evidence there is no god. It is Chad. Chad is proof there is no god. lol

Reality used a term I enjoy seeing in print

Pro Abortion, as a pejorative for Pro Choice.

Sad really, because some of us are actually Pro Abortion, not merely Pro Choice.

We breed too much, we let the wrong people breed, and we discourage people who really shouldn't be bearing young from aborting.

Why? It certainly isn't as if we collectively will support these children when they aren't aborted. We wont fund health care or education or even the basic needs.

Then we wonder why our prisons over run, and our culture declines!!

Bizarre really, because we all know deep down inside that if it were not for abortions in the past the US would ALREADY be a third world slum.

If you have any doubts at all, do us all a favor and abort.

Eugenics, in the classic sense, is merely the application of preventative medical ethics. Prevention is supposed to be a conservative action. To preserve and prevent harm is to conserve health. Fascism is a right-wing ideology. Forcing health on people is fascism, but "it's for the good of the future" which is anathema to so many short-sighted people who cling to short-sighted, unhealthy, and mentally ill-inducing dogma. So forced eugenics is fascism. But what if you had the choice to freely choose which level of eugenics you would prefer to live with? Doesn't sound so bad now, does it? Freedom to not have children. Freedom to have healthy children. Freedom from being born diseased or genetically burdened with some nasty disorder. Freedom to be born healthy and sound of mind and body, to live in a place that is healthy.
Do I sound like a fascist? I am a realist. A pragmatist. If something can make us all have better lives now and for future generations, I'm all for that. But oppression? No way. We've got too much of that. Forcing people to have children is insane.
Brainwashing them to have children, when they will grow up unhealthy and poor, is insane. It is merely growing billions of victims for the ones who benefit from this blatant sadistic fascism of brainwashing.
False information gives false results. You want to live forever? Better get behind health and education or you can forget it.

The reality of se-x, abortion, contraception and STD/HIV control: – from an agnostic guy who enjoys intelligent se-x-

Note: Some words hyphenated to defeat an obvious word filter. ...

      The Brutal Effects of Stupidity:

: The failures of the widely used birth "control" methods i.e. the Pill (8.7% actual failure rate) and male con-dom (17.4% actual failure rate) have led to the large rate of abortions and S-TDs in the USA. Men and women must either recognize their responsibilities by using the Pill or co-ndoms properly and/or use safer methods in order to reduce the epidemics of abortion and S-TDs.- Failure rate statistics provided by the Gut-tmacher Inst-itute. Unfortunately they do not give the statistics for doubling up i.e. using a combination of the Pill and a condom.

Added information before making your next move:

"Se-xually transmitted diseases (STDs) remain a major public health challenge in the United States. While substantial progress has been made in preventing, diagnosing, and treating certain S-TDs in recent years, CDC estimates that approximately 19 million new infections occur each year, almost half of them among young people ages 15 to 24.1 In addition to the physical and psy-ch-ological consequences of S-TDs, these diseases also exact a tremendous economic toll. Direct medical costs as-sociated with STDs in the United States are estimated at up to $14.7 billion annually in 2006 dollars."
      See also: http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/26/opinion/bolan-se-xual-health/index.html?hpt=hp_t4

      And from:
"Adolescents don’t think or-al se-x is something to worry about (even though is becoming a major cause of throat cancer)," said Bonnie Halpern-Felsher professor of pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco. "They view it as a way to have intimacy without having 's-ex.'" (Maybe it should be called the Bill Clinton Syndrome !!)

Obviously, political leaders in both parties, Planned Parenthood, parents, the "stupid part of the USA" and the educational system have failed miserably on many fronts.

The most effective forms of contraception, ranked by "Perfect use":

      – (Abstinence, 0% failure rate)
      – (Masturbation, mono or mutual, 0% failure rate)

      Followed by:

One-month injectable and Implant (both at 0.05 percent)
Vasectomy and IUD (Mirena) (both at 0.1 percent)
The Pill, Three-month injectable, and the Patch (all at 0.3 percent)
      Tubal sterilization (at 0.5 percent)
      IUD (Copper-T) (0.6 percent)
      Periodic abstinence (Post-ovulation) (1.0 percent)
Periodic abstinence (Symptothermal) and Male condom (both at 2.0 percent)
Periodic abstinence (Ovulation method) (3.0 percent)

Every other method ranks below these, including Withdrawal (4.0), Female condom (5.0), Diaphragm (6.0), Periodic abstinence (calendar) (9.0), the Sponge (9.0-20.0, depending on whether the woman using it has had a child in the past), Cervical cap (9.0-26.0, with the same caveat as the Sponge), and Spermicides (18.0).

The same stories are boring and it's not like there are no new stories to write about.

Seek first the kingdom domains of God and once your vision settles, you will know that one's body is where the kingdom domains of God are to be found. For: the ‘depths of atomized inwardness’ are as far away as the outward distant stars in the night skies. Either direction is as stained evolutions upon the inner and outer chasms of all issues cosmological. This earth of one's birth is a celestial wonder and our bodies are made wondrous by the evolutionary trails as being trailering wanderings of atomized cosmological constructs of cellular conditionings made manifested and is a testimonial to all celestial manifestations of living cellular combinations of atomized cloisters.

      Science,

The conditioning of the human psyche is an entrustment issue of socialized embracing considerations via individualisms harmonizing a sensation of self-rationalized communal awareness. The aloneness of individualities makes for one reaching out from individualistic rationalisms to self-embrace a sense of social belonging even though individual loneliness shall never leave one's psyche. The playgrounds of cultivated socialisms is where any individual can find selflessness variables seeded redundantly apportioned from within one's own personalized psyche. The 'Game of Life' is for one to understand and also to be understood.

  12. Here you cnn pukes. Allow me to help you do your "job".

"SOS" is a naval emergency distress call meaning "Save our Ship", but at the CPAC, (Conservative Political Action Committee) convention, "SOS" stands for SpecialOperationsSpeaks.com, a new organization of former US Special Ops officers who are issuing distress calls about urgent high-profile questions, and critical unanswered mysteries about the 2012 Obama Benghazi debacle.

CAPT Larry Bailey, USN (Ret.), a former senior SEAL commander and co-founder of Special Operation Speaks, demands to know, "Where the heck is Admiral Gaouette?" ADM Gaouette was the commander of the USS Stennis Carrier Strike Group on station in the Persian Gulf area who was mysteriously summarily stripped of his command during the attack in Benghazi, Libya, in which Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were murdered.

Several days afterward, it was reported that ADM Gaouette was summarily relieved of his command during a major operational contingency event during the Benghazi attacks for the alleged claim of "inappropriate leadership judgment." ADM Gaouette's detention and total disappearance weeks before the November 2012 presidential election was a story that CAPT Bailey says "disappeared into a black hole of silence."

CAPT Bailey, as a "Brother-in-the-Navy" of ADM Gaouette, has some urgent and vital questions:

Where is ADM Gaouette now, and where has he been for over 4 months?

Why hasn't Congress called ADM Gaouette to testify about the 2012 Benghazi fiasco, when he clearly was a key operational senior commander in-theater?

If ADM Gaouette is under some type of detention, what does "inappropriate leadership judgment" mean, what is he specifically charged with, and does he have proper legal counsel?

CAPT Bailey urges anyone who heard or saw anything, or has even the smallest most innocuous piece of the puzzle, to tell them what that piece is. He says, "The more questions SOS asks, the bigger the black hole of silence becomes."

If there is an actual admiral by that name I do not know. You'll have to prove the guy ever existed, prove he was in the Navy, prove he was an admiral, and prove that anything you have said, no matter how tiny, is true before I'm going to bother with your obvious trolling here.

      May 9, 2013 at 3:07 am |
    • Horational Blornhower

Just let me add that the proper place for your question, if it is legit, is with contacting your personal Congressional House or Senate member for your district.
They are the proper starting point for a civilian inquiry or investigation into a military or Federal legal matter.
They have a direct line to the military because they are members of Congress. They can open a Congressional Investigation or refer the matter to where it needs to go. They represent you in government. You must go through a chain of command.
If an admiral were arrested, it will come out sooner or later. If you want oversight and accountability, though, you may as well forget it. Corruption is too thick inside the Beltway. Apathy is more likely than action. Trying to contact CNN is a waste of time. They only want something they can see from their office windows so they know you're not a nut.

I know these people didn't exist because the people who believe they existed are 'tards. I know they didn't exist because the people who created them only wanted to make money off their purported existence and so created writings and stories to enhance their profitability (via a vast, incredibly well executed conspiracy). I know they didn't exist because no one who existed before photographs could possibly exist. I know they didn't exist because I simply don't want to believe it in the face of all the evidence that these people existed.

Religious freedoms? Political freedoms? Where does one 'draw-the-line'? I do not pay my religious dues to the God of All Creation but rather to the lessor one who evolved us out of the mired clay. There lays the differences between Creation and Manifestations. We did all evolve from a single cell just as it was done in the first day of establishing Life here upon this earthly world. One celled-in chasm entwined by the atomized fabric of inter-micro-cosmological spatial relationships.

One egg. One sperm. The biologically steadied states where within the atomized cosmos of cellular designations, there seems to be a codifying of perceptual discreteness far enough away for any practical understanding to be stood soundly upon.
