Christian metal singer charged with attempting to hire hit man

By Tom Watkins, CNN

(CNN)–The lead singer of the metal band As I Lay Dying has been arrested and charged with seeking to have his wife killed, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said.

Authorities said Tuesday that Tim Lambesis tried to contract an undercover detective posing as a killer for hire to murder his estranged wife, who lives in Encinitas, California.

Arraignment was set for Thursday afternoon at North Division Court in Vista.

The department said it learned on May 2 that Lambesis, 32, had asked someone to carry out the killing and an investigation was initiated.

The investigation culminated Tuesday afternoon, "when Lambesis solicited an undercover detective to kill his wife," it said. He was arrested without incident at a business in Oceanside and taken to the Encinitas Station and booked into the Vista Detention Facility.

Last September, Meggan Lambesis filed with San Diego Superior Court to have the marriage dissolved.

  1. A true Scotsman

Here's what I hate to see on belief blog over and over...

A Christian does something wrong... if you are for Christianity they were not a true Christian..if you are against Christianity they did it because they were a Christian and it's probably all of them.

A Muslim does something wrong...if you are for Islam they were not a true Islamic...if you are against Islam then they did it because they were a Muslim...and it's probably all of them.

An Atheist does something wrong...if you are for atheism they were not a true atheist...if you are against atheism then they did it because they are an atheist..and it's probably all of them.

    Are you noticing a pattern???

Now that Tim Lambesis is in prison, he'll be participating in a lot more unholy acts.

  5. Where was God?

Before you all dismiss Christianity based on this: this man does not represent Christianity and does not represent Christ. Calling yourself a Christian does not make you a Chrsitian. Your faith has to be acknoweldged by God. Any lunatic can identify him/herself with any religion and do whatever the hell they want. This man's actions proves nothing. All will be judged for their actions, regardless of what they claim or who they think they are.

Your faith has to be acknowledged by god? So... you get a Certificate of Authenticity in the mail? Suitable for framing no doubt.
Hey, you could put it right next to your picture of Jesus riding a T.Rex. I know that totally happened in real life, because, as a christian... I have unshakable faith.

Christians cannot keep doing the old "he's not one of us" crap. He's part of the Christian tribe so take ownership of it. Like "Christians" are supposed to. Tend to your flock.

He's Christian and made a serious mistake. Now whether or not he actually believes there is a God, only God knows.

He does represent Christianity. Christianity has a lot of good people. It has a lot of messed up people. It has a lot of hypocrites. It has a lot of people who would give you their last dime if you needed it. It's like any other group.

I guess people missed the part where he claimed to said he doesn't believe in God. A christian believes in God and would never do such a thing. But idiot atheist will claim he is still christian lel.

    • mydadspants

Yes he is a christian! He's just like all of the other charlatans who are making money preaching lies about something that doesn't exist... Pastor Ted Haggard, pastor Jimmy Swaggart, Bishop Eddie L. Long, the catholic church, they'e all about earning money and abusing people. Are these people not christians either? I wonder who's next to be outed as a fake.
Santa Clause, The tooth fairy, the easter bunny and your god do not exist. You're just taking to yourself.

This unfortunate situation has nothing to do with Christianity. But, has everything to do with the fact that Mr. Lambesis... first, believes Christian Metal is good. Second, believes he will get away his crime. And third, believes that the Virgin Mary conceived without a penis present... So, as you can see, he is not the brightest star in the solar system... sorry, not the brightest almighty angel in all of God's glorious heaven... get it now? The ground was sour to began with, only weeds could grow...

There is a difference between being sincere-but-flawed, and being a "public Christian" who openly contradicts Christianity – the dude wanted to murder his wife, for goodness sake.

I guess this makes him eligible to become a member of ACDC who you know is going to demand equal time on this site. They sing openly about hell, murder, and mayhem and never get press coverage here. They should claim to be Christian too!

Divorce is the answer if you don't want to be married anymore. If you can't commit to your vows, then just leave each other. You go over the line in murder. That's just not right, and he knows it. Otherwise he prob wouldn't think he would be caught. Forgive. Let it go. Move on. Dirty Deeds Dun Dirt Cheap.

    Wait a second!

A very important part of this story was not previously mentioned and this shows the power of control that is wielded by the Christian lobby in America, the ability to SILENCE the media that is wielded by Christianity.

This sort of obfuscation and lying to protect a bigger lie must END.

Previous versions of this story made no mention at all that the Perp was a "Christian" Metal Singer, kind of an important detail don't you think?

What difference does it make? Wrong is wrong no matter what you believe. Christianity had nothing do with this guy hiring someone to kill his wife.

The whole point of espousing high moral ideals is so that you don't have to live up to them. Especially if you can cast off accountability for your actions onto a Godhead that will offer forgiveness for ANYTHING. I think America is finally starting to see what Christianity is really about and the kind of people who use the Christian faith as a cloak of righteousness to hide their dirty deeds.

No big deal. Afterwards he just asks for forgiveness and waltzes into heaven to party with Jebus.

    May 20, 2013 at 10:45 am |
    • DS

That depends on whether he's asking forgiveness because he's really sorry or asking forgiveness because he was caught. What comes out of the mouth isn't what counts. It's what comes out of the heart that demonstrates a true "conversion" and there have been very few throughout history and now.
