![]() Congregation Or Hadash, a conservative Jewish synagogue built from a former auto body repair shop.

From auto shop to sacred spaceEditor's note: This story is part of CNN's American Journey series to show how old buildings around the United States have found new purposes and helped to build communities. Are there repurposed buildings in your community? Share the stories with CNN iReport and they could be featured in a CNN story. Sandy Springs, Georgia (CNN) - The old Chevrolet paint and body shop was vacant - 24,000 square feet of metal and concrete surrounded by a sea of asphalt. But when some members of Congregation Or Hadash saw it, they saw a home. Since it was founded in 2003, the conservative Jewish congregation had bounced from location to location outside Atlanta - a Methodist church, a windowless space in a school, any place they could rent or borrow as they grew. "Sometimes, from week to week, we didn't know exactly where we were going to be," said Fred Wachter, president of the congregation and a member since its early years. "All the while ... we probably walked every piece of available property and real estate in Sandy Springs, trying to find something, anything, that would look like it." FULL STORY |

The atheists on this blog are jealous of God because they want to be mini-gods themselves. Prideful Atheists. My camel-toe got tax-exempt status. It is time for you to start your walk with Jesus.
Amen.
Please don't start with this garbage again.
One line a holy roller says...then one line a crazy person says, then more blah blah blah.
It isn't clever or funny.
Please stop.
My bosses told me the same thing when they fired me. Just like Tom Tom *cough* Scotty did when he kicked all the Christians off the last blog he moderated. My 12-year-old daughter quit smoking at the table but her kids still do it. Read the Bible, it is 100% accurate.
Amen.
I said please.....
Time for you to get to a gynie.
You atheists are carnal beings that believe the lies of your father, satan, who is the devil. Read Jesus' gift to us, the Holy Bible. I keep the flea powder in the oven next to the kittens now. Keep standing on the wrong side of the divide and see what happens.
Amen.
We missed you and your carnal kittens, HS. Long time no see. Kisses everywhere!
All atheists? I'm not jealous.
If I was ever to be jealous of a fictional character it'd be someone cool like Wolverine or Jack Reacher.
Why would anyone ever want to be a character that's so lame that he has to invent people just to pay attention to him?
Go now and tell the fools the truth of their misplaced worship.
Speak loudly that religion is the true great evil on this Earth.
This Evil affects every plant and animal the Mother gave us.
Tell them and care not if they are vulgar, for you are the light.
AB
Toprerism
Telling fools the truth/reality does not work, I reject all those facts/science in order to maintain my beliefs. I am Topher, I have spoken.
Wonder if topher gets his material from the ICR like fred does.
I've seen the things we're made of and from... Have you..? And still not awed and held in wonder as to Life's abilities to create from atoms; ageless creations of celestially terrestrial Life forms..?
How much pot had you smoked when you saw these things?
Over half a century of 'aged' wandering does measure one's way...
Have you ever asked yourself:
Whats the purpose of life? Why do we suffer? Is there any hope for the future?
The bible answers these and other questions. Many may think that the bible is a book full of myths, outdated stories or it to hard to understand...But, that's what people think...Why not try for yourself to try and see what the bible has to say about the most important questions of life?
Jehovah's Witnesses will be more then happy to help study the bible, cost free and at a time an location of your choice.
Speak to one of them on the street of when they come to your door, or visit jw.org for answers to your questions, or to request a cost free bible study
JW
You keep posting the same crap, stealing advertising for your delusion is a nasty sin, p!ss off already.
Charm- Jw.org is created by jws...go and worry about your one web sites if you have one
JW
Do you deny being a thief? If I reject the watch tower approach by your people, I can simply walk away. Your posts here are repeti tive and are aimed at people reading them before understanding that it is garbage. You are deceitful at best no better than the other hustlers that post their version of the truth, begone.
I do deny being a theft...Jw are not a profit organization...we do not charge for our educational work, literature, or ask Thieving...$000000000 dollars!!! Therefore my post will still represent $000000 dollars!
Do JW's tithe?
do you really think you are convincing anyone, JW?
No,
Rather than giving required tihes and offerings, Jehovah’s Witnesses imitate the early Christians and support their ministry in two ways: by performing their personal ministerial work without pay and by making voluntary donations.
We thus follow the Bible’s direction to Christians: “Let each one do just as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”—2 Corinthians 9:7.
Sam – People dont need to be convinced if they dont want to...Just like you dont convince me. Im just trying to show people the value of a bible study!
Do you feel you are accomplishing that?
Or are you yet another thiest purporting to know the mind of god?
i am trying to appeal to theists sense of reason, but it appears that those posting here lack that sense
While we are at it, JW, what do you think I am trying to convince you of?
sorry, its not you now, others in general, atheists, or born agains.
JW: Fair enough. Gopher/Topher says that predestination and free will are not contradictory. I feel they are. What do you think?
Sam – Predestination, is when your life is already as if it was written in a book, that tells you, what your going to be, when your going to die, etc... Some like Jesus or John the baptist had a special assignment from God even before they where born... Though this does not apply to all of us...we have free will.
– in free will, which all of us have, we are free to choose which course of live we will take, and according to that choice reap benefits or disaster...like if you choose to overdrink you could become a drunkard and make damage to yourself or others...etc
jw: so, are you claiming that god doesn't know what we are going to do before we do it?
Sam- God knows who we are and know our weaknesses and potencial. But prefers I guess he prefers to see things differently, look at this advise he gave the Israelites:
Deut 30:19: " I take the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you today that I have put life and death before you, the blessing and the curse; and you must choose life so that you may live, you and your descendants,"
God gave them a choice and the consequences of their choices.
If god predetermined that and angel would choose to be satan and that Adam and Eve would rebel bringing consequences for its decendents, don't you think that god would've even created ?
JW: You are amazing. You dance around he question with as much panache as does Gopher
A simple yes or no answer is what I am looking for
Does god know what i am going to do before i do it?
You freaks are hilarious.
Wasting your life away with that brain dead dogma and also telling others that they should also. What a bunch of cunts.
Have you ever asked yourself:
Why do people cut and paste the same nonsense over and over?
If there's no point in your life without your fantasy book, that's your problem. You make your own point to your life.
Beware of proselytizing to people who already reject your rabid cult. They might just kick you in the nuts. You know, those tiny things in that tiny sack of skin under your tiny pee-pee. You deserve to have them kicked many times. Stay away from me.
Ha...I posted that...whats the problem?...ignore it then. you have the option to replay to my post or not..
Stay back! I'll defend myself!
you scared me now...sorry!
The bible answers these and other questions.
-----
Not conclusively, or with relevance to everyone. It's one of many variations, 1 side to a multi-faceted story.
Have you ever checked out how your Jehovah Witness schtick came into being?
Check in history.
Look up the "Great Disappointment" and find the answers to how you clowns formed. A great many stupid people all fell into the same "end of times" and FAILED miserably. They broke apart and splintered into different pieces of stupidity just to make more claims that the next round will be the new "end of times."
You freaks never learn.
Jehovas witnesses came to existence since men was created
Heb 11:4 – Heb 12:1- By faith Abel offered God a sacrifice of greater worth than that of Cain,+ and through that faith he received the witness that he was righteous, for God approved* his gifts,+ and although he died, he still speaks+ through his faith.... "So, then, because we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us...
Abel was a jehovahs witness and others...read all chapter 11
But you didn't form a religion for millenia and then on a different continent? Very unlike christians.
The modern-day organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses began at the end of the 19th century. At that time, a small group of Bible students who lived near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the United States, began a systematic analysis of the Bible. They compared the doctrines taught by the churches with what the Bible really teaches. They began publishing what they learned in books, newspapers, and the journal that is now called The Watchtower—Announcing Jehovah’s Kingdom.
Among that group of sincere Bible students was a man named Charles Taze Russell. While Russell took the lead in the Bible education work at that time and was the first editor of The Watchtower, he was not the founder of a new religion. The goal of Russell and the other Bible Students, as the group was then known, was to promote the teachings of Jesus Christ and to follow the practices of the first-century Christian congregation. Since Jesus is the Founder of Christianity, we view him as the founder of our organization.—Colossians 1:18-20.
JW,
Yeah, Abel is claimed by sheep ranchers and chefs too because "God" liked his roast lamb better than Cain's kale and rutabagas. Take *that*, vegetarians!
LOL...funny guy!
Aw, don't chase him away. It's good to know how these people think since it seems that we all have to deal with them once in a while... and also interesting to see their debates with other folks who call themselves "true" Christians too!
Their usage of the word "true" is similar to what comparing two pairs of black socks are truly black.
~~Follow this exchange:
"No! My pair of black socks is the truest black."
"No! Mine is! I said so."
Then why atheists keep on harassing other religions? Constantly i see atheist people here saying: "what you believe is wrong....what i believe is right"!!
I don't see that as wrong, if everything is done with respect for other peoples decisions on what to believe or not!
What you believe IS wrong. The bible has so many parts PROVEN false, yet you continue to believe...it is like a whole bunch of people who are supposed to be mature adults believeing in Santa, going door to door ANNOYING ALL OF THEIR NEIGHBORS with their Santa literature.
That does not speak to whether or not there are gods or not...just the bible is CLEARLY false... why do you still believe what we know is false?
igaf – About the bible:
The Bible is scientifically accurate. It even contains information that was far ahead of its time. For example, the book of Leviticus contained laws for ancient Israel on quarantine and hygiene when surrounding nations knew nothing about such matters. At a time when there were wrong ideas about the shape of the earth, the Bible referred to it as a circle, or sphere. (Isaiah 40:22) The Bible accurately said that the earth ‘hangs on nothing.’ (Job 26:7) Of course, the Bible is not a science textbook. But when it touches on scientific matters, it is accurate. Is this not what we would expect of a book from God?
The Bible is also historically accurate and reliable. Its accounts are specific. They include not only the names but also the ancestry of individuals. In contrast to secular historians, who often do not mention the defeats of their own people, Bible writers were honest, even recording their own failings and those of their nation. In the Bible book of Numbers, for instance, the writer Moses admits his own serious error for which he was severely reproved. (Numbers 20:2-12) Such honesty is rare in other historical accounts but is found in the Bible because it is a book from God.
Its prophecys:
The Bible contains numerous prophecies, many of which have already been fulfilled. Consider an example. Through the prophet Isaiah, who lived in the eighth century B.C.E., Jehovah foretold that the city of Babylon would be destroyed. (Isaiah 13:19; 14:22, 23) Details were given to show just how this would happen. Invading armies would dry up Babylon’s river and march into the city without a battle. That is not all. Isaiah’s prophecy even named the king who would conquer Babylon—Cyrus.—Isaiah 44:27-45:2.
The Bible writer Isaiah foretold the fall of Babylon
A man researching the fall of Babylon
Some 200 years later—on the night of October 5/6, 539 B.C.E.—an army encamped near Babylon. Who was its commander? A Persian king named Cyrus. The stage was thus set for the fulfillment of an amazing prophecy. But would the army of Cyrus invade Babylon without a battle, as foretold?
The Babylonians were holding a festival that night and felt secure behind their massive city walls. Meanwhile, Cyrus cleverly diverted the water of the river that flowed through the city. Soon the water was shallow enough for his men to cross the riverbed and approach the walls of the city. But how would Cyrus’ army get past Babylon’s walls? For some reason, on that night the doors to the city were carelessly left open!
JW, basically all three of your prior posts are either false or just specious. It is ludicrous to claim "prophecy" when either the details are so scant or the events so distant in time that they cannot be verified.
The more serious question you and others of your ilk should be asking is why your god can't do better than showing his face once in 2000 years, at best and if ever. That alone is cause for reasonable doubt, to say the least.
JW, given how much of the bible has now been publicly examined in the light of science and found to be in disagreement with science, you have to be LYING to claim that the bible is scientifically accurate. You can't really be that ignorant, unless willfully.
So tell us, how does the bible claim that disease spreads? And how was the earth populated? Seriously. Get over your wacky religion already.
@Brian and Sue
These nut jobs will come back with the old adage of "it brings comfort to us." Count on it.
That failed excuse will work for them because we, humans, all want comfort. What they'll always fail to see is that their comfort isn't a comfort but a jail for their own minds.
Sue and brian – Its easy to criticize, but hard to replay to what i posted with logic and respect...
Ya you HAVE to respect an opinion.
~~LOL
Get over yourself and your poor excuses you fuck =wit, JW.
JW, your response post is a cop out, and a gutless one at that. I posed questions to you. Try to answer them, even if they make you uncomfortable.
Frankly, I think your shameless promotion of your awful cult here is detestable.
Good point Answer. I agree.
Viewpoints are not people. They deserve criticism, not "respect". JW, enough harm has already happened as a result of your particular twist on a religion. Don't come here trying to sell it like you have been; you won't find fully eager customers for your swampland, to say the least.
"how does the bible claim that disease spreads?"
Rom 5:12: "That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because they had all sinned"
"And how was the earth populated?"
Gen 1:27, 28 – "And God went on to create the man in his image, in God’s image he created him; male and female he created them.+ 28 Further, God blessed them, and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many, fill the earth+ and subdue it,+ and have in subjection+ the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and every living creature that is moving on the earth.”
JW,
The earth was populated TWICE by the same method – – incest.
Observer – It was the only way at the beginning to reproduce. After wards God gave this law:
Leviticus 20:17 – "“‘If a man has sxual relations with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother, and he sees her nakeedness and she sees his nakeedness, it is a disgrace.+ They must be cut off* before the eyes of the sons of their people. He has exposed his sister to shame.* He should answer for his error."
JW,
Fortunately for the Bible, it NEVER condemns fathers sleeping with their daughters. It does, however, condemn gay s3x which can't result in babies. At least it is consistent.
Observer- are you talking about lot and his daughters?
What was the reason they did that?
The very fact that Lot’s daughters got him intoxicated suggests that they realized that he would not consent to having sxual relations with them while he was sober. But as aliens in the land, his daughters felt that this was the only way to prevent the extinction of Lot’s family. The account is in the Bible to reveal the relationship of the Moabites (through Moab) and the Ammonites (through Benammi) to Abraham’s descendants, the Israelites.
JW,
Yep. Lot did a lot of sinful things. He got drunk. Had s3x with his daughter. Got drunk again. Had s3x with another daughter. What a sinful loser.
JW, grow some courage and answer my questions rather than just dodging with non-answers. I didn't ask you about your twisted view of sin. I asked you for a scientific explanation of how diseases propagate, since you claimed that your bible is scientifically accurate while I know that it is not.
So, out with it, you cowardly liar. Answer the question directly this time. No more cowardly dodges of yours will be tolerated.
Brian-
Deut 23:19: "A peg should be part of your equipment. When you squat outside, you should dig a hole with it and then cover your excrement."
This commandment given by God helped the Israelites in the desert to stay out of the risk of infections.
JW, stop your cowardly dodging. Your response does not answer my question and is another one of your shady dodges. Again, here is the question. Answer it directly this time:
How does the bible say that diseases propagate? You claimed that your bible is scientifically accurate while I know that it is not.
So, out with it, you cowardly liar. Answer the question directly this time. No more cowardly dodges of yours will be tolerated.
I think that the JWs as a group are pretty much a criminal organization due to their acts of willful endangerment. One of several scenarios in which the whole Jehovahs Witness no blood doctrine falls flat, and can actually cause death, is in the case of someone who comes in to emergency treatment already having had significant blood loss. In that case, the patient will die without receiving blood.
Witness or witless? You decide, but that particular religious cult is sure to remain in the margins, at best. I think that if they weren't so aggresssively preying on people with their door to door annoyances and JW's spamming here, they'd already be toast.
Des – I'm an ER nurse and J- Witnesses terrify me.
Do you have to take care of an JW patient?
That's a terrible, empty response you made JW. Yes, I occasionally have to treat patients from your organization.
Frankly, my job comes with enough stress without having to deal with your gang members especially when they are parents of young patients. That is one of the worst things I encounter.
Pam – I appreciate that even though its hard for you, you still take care of my spiritual brothers...no daught makes you an exceptional professional. I know how it feels, as my wife is actually an RN and she has to treat others even though sometimes she doesn't feel like it. But she was taught in school and through the books to respect the opinions and conditions of the patients.
JW, enough of your side babble attempts. I won't put up with you attempting to dilute the discussion with it.
Your evil gang is putting human life at risk. Enough of it already.
Pam- I can't believe that you are a nurse... Having so much hate for a clients believes is not professional nursing!
JW, your comment and your religion is what is both disgusting and hateful. I put the life of my patient first, over the crazy claims of your deadly cult.
Don't you dare accuse me of hate or of not giving my patients the best possible care. It is that emergency care that saves lives, whereas following your terrible cult would end those lives.
Your tactics and your sick cult disgust me, frankly. You are willfully endangering lives and preventing the best possible patient care, and that to me is totally unacceptable.
Pam – Again if a JW has a legal medical directive docuument, that says, "no blood" you have to respect that wish and that's it...You could think whatever you wish, but your obligation is to respect the client...THE END!
JW, you and your religion are vile and dangerous. I will always put saving human lives ahead of your crazy, murderous cult beliefs. I know that many other medical professionals share my views; we abhor your sick cult and its crazy doctrine, and we will always want to help save the lives of your victims, whether you agree or not.
Pam- I'm happy u have that desire of saving lives... What if the JW has a legal docuument... What will you do?
JW, you are vile and dangerous. I will always put saving human lives ahead of your crazy, murderous cult beliefs. I know that many other medical professionals share my views; we abhor your sick cult and its crazy doctrine, and we will always want to help save the lives of your victims, whether you agree or not.
Pam- Good answer! Define cult for me without looking at the dicionary?
People like you with that attiitude are very few... Thank God the Colleges still continue to produce Good quality Doctors and nurses that can respect the wishes of their client.
Be careful, Pamela. JW is a very slimy character and is clearly experienced at dodging the issue and trying to push his evil cult's agenda in sideways and sell others on it to drag them in.
Pamela, I am also a medical practitioner (ENT person, actually), and I know that myself and many of my colleagues, both new graduates/residents, and more experienced doctors as well as nursing practitioners, share your views. Let's now yank cult-spammer JW back to the case that his crazy cult has a particularly hard time squirming out of:
One of several scenarios in which the whole Jehovahs Witness no blood doctrine falls flat, and can actually cause death, is in the case of someone who comes in to emergency treatment already having had significant blood loss. In that case, the patient will die without receiving blood.
JW's particular religious cult (and yes, JW, we medics know how to use a dictionary) is sure to remain in the margins, at best. I think that if they weren't so aggresssively preying on people with their door to door annoyances and activities like JW's spamming here, they'd already be toast.
A medical treatment is optional....you dont need to tell me which treatment i should take thank you!
JW,
Legal actions have to be taken to protect children from ignorant parents who are willing to risk their children's lives.
That is utterly false, JW. Often trauma situations, the emergency physician or whoever is available has to decide for you, on the spot. In cases of severe blood loss and an unresponding patient, the medical ethic trumps your crazy cult beliefs.
You've already been called out as a liar once above. Now you are heading for three strikes. Please stop trying to sell the world on what is a very dangerous organization of yours.
Thanks, Observer. You must have posted that while I was still typing. I still shudder when I think of some of the crazy JW parents that I have had to deal with.
Pam- You may not agree with our way, and Gods way of thinking. But you have to respect it, its part of your training. What goes beyond its only in between the JW and the Courts if its needed...
By the way JWs are working very closley with the MEDICAL community, to look for alternatives to blood transfusions:
"At one time, the medical community generally viewed strategies for avoiding transfusions, so-called bloodless medicine, as extreme, even suicidal, but this has changed in recent years. For example, in 2004, an article published in a medical education journal stated that “many of the techniques developed for use in Jehovah’s Witness patients will become standard practice in years to come.” * An article in the journal Heart, Lung and Circulation said in 2010 that “‘bloodless surgery’ should not be limited to J[ehovah’s] W[itnesses] but should form an integral part of everyday surgical practice.”
Thousands of doctors worldwide now use blood-conservation techniques to perform complex surgeries without transfusions. Such alternatives to blood transfusions are used even in developing countries and are requested by many patients who are not Jehovah’s Witnesses."
JW, your statement " But you have to respect it, its part of your training. " is is preposterous and stupid. Medical urgency in saving human life trumps your crazy cult beliefs, or ought to.
Pam- each jw have a legal medical directive with them that says "No Blood", if you administrate blood and the jw has that directive you could get in trouble with the law for that. The jw patient could sue the doctor or medical staff.
You are obligated to respect each other's consciences, if you do that contributes as well for your patients good mental health, and it gives you peace of mind to know that you respected you clients wishes.
Meh, let the adult JWs go if they want to. Who needs 'em anyway. The children are a different story.
JW, you and your religion are plainly vile and dangerous. I will always put saving human lives ahead of your crazy, murderous cult beliefs. I know that many other medical professionals share my views; we abhor your sick cult and its crazy doctrine, and we will always want to help save the lives of your victims, whether you agree or not.
JW, the fact that techniques now exist in many cases to avoid the use of blood does not in any way negate the moral issues of the past. I have no issues with a dependentless adult refusing appropriate medical care, but this should not be an option for anyone under 18, and is highly unethical for anyone with dependents. Taking such a risk with one's own life as a parent should at a minimum be taken into account in ustody hearings if not be ounishable as attempted abandonment.
Be careful, Pamela. JW is a slimy character and is clearly experienced at dodging the issue and trying to push his evil cult's agenda in sideways and sell others on it to drag them in.
Pamela, I am also a medical practitioner (ENT person, actually), and I know that myself and many of my colleagues, both new graduates/residents, and more experienced doctors as well as nursing practitioners, share your views. Let's now yank JW back to the case that his crazy cult has a particularly hard time squirming out of:
One of several scenarios in which the whole Jehovahs Witness no blood doctrine falls flat, and can actually cause death, is in the case of someone who comes in to emergency treatment already having had significant blood loss. In that case, the patient will die without receiving blood.

Instead of deleting off topic posts perhaps the Belief Blog writers could come up with an article that is actually worth talking about?
Seconded.
Not gonna happen
Joe
If you do not see this as harmless banter for entertainment purposes perhaps you should find another site. The more red neck types do seem to take criticism as hatred, says more about them than anyone else.
That is how I see it, which is why I suggested that if the moderators don't want people to go off topic they should come up with some articles worth talking about.
Joe
I take your point, but the editors have to keep up the posts or like the others that rely on the scam of religions they will have to get honest work, sorry Daniel and Eric but that is the way I see it.
Atheism deserves a good laugh. Just put it in the fiction section.
Put what, the lack of a book?
Derpity
Looks like someone has an IQ under 90. Good times
Hahah. I laughted. Go away.
Proof
God created the universe. Many billions of years ago, a life form evolved on a planet not so far distant and their scientists deduced the building blocks for life existed in the universe and from it, new life forms could be created.
These ancient ones populated Mars with life and eventually, due to asteroid events over millions of years, life arrived here on Earth.
We are a product of that primeval turbulence. Therefore, we must worship the Aliens, not God. The Aliens have to worship God.
This is all true because I have faith that it happened just this way.
"Faith" is a useful tool, but it does not serve to determine truth from fiction.
"Faith" doesn't serve anything at all.
"Non-belief" doesn't serve anything at all.
Non-belief serves the purpose of not wasting time on things that are likely not true.
AB
I am enthralled by the idea/prospect of soulgenisms. are we restricted to just one or can a body have multiple soulgenisms over his/her lifespan?
Same can be said about atheism.
And you've said it. 9000 times. We get it. You hate atheists.
We will need to consult Dr. D. Johnson on that point I think.
"If we exist to live and die and that's it, what's the point? We rot in the ground after we die and nothing we do will matter. Seems like a depressing religion to me!"
You as.sume there must be a point. Do you base your belief only on the uncomfortable feeling that a pointless existence is depressing? What is wrong with we give our own lives purpose and we create the point of our lives. Wheter or not you like it, that is what you've done with your man made religion.
lol??
Your comment is awaiting moderation.
How do all the thousands of other man made religions save man from himself?? Any scriptures besides the gnostic fakes??
RB and his ilk would have us believe that in just about 200 years we went from 8 people (after the "flood") to enough to not only found the Egyption empire but also to enslave themselves (the hebrews) so that they can escape from themselves.
lol??
Your comment is awaiting moderation.
Honey bunny, errrr wabbit!
Philosophical question:
Is there any difference between a God that doesn't actually intervene in the physical events of our lives, and an imaginary God that most people believe in?
The difference definitly can't be accuratley measured.
Sometimes writing a bunch of crazy shit is fun. That explains the bible. Imagine how little the scribes had to do besides feed their egos?
AB
and their bellies. Imagine the pride of getting a great scam up and running, Madoff's of the 3rd century or so.
AB, you are hilarious.
High App...
Egoisms are awash within all socialistic hierarchies... The poorest of socialisms have egos built upon the most simplistic resources of mental attributes... Although the base hierarchies of entrenched socialisms give rise to many freedoms, the poorest socialists are held captives via their nation's drug enforcement laws... All drugs have addictive qualities... Alcoholic beverages are liquid drugs and are called 'alcoholic' for a reason... Pharmaceutical drugs are synthetically made offshoots of naturally occurring substances.... Such synthetic drugs show little promise of curative abilities when compared to that of naturally evolved substances... Marijuana has yet to show us 'her' true potential in curative abilities...
Hello LL, you crazy old fuck. How are you? I didn't read your post but it looks nice.
Sorry I bothered to post... 🙁
Don't be sad LL, I am sure somebody will read it.
Read it sure, but what are the chances that anybody will understand it?
I don't have to read it to know he digs pot.
He's drunk or wasted or at least braindamaged. The problem is that he is allowed to access the internet.
Sired Oriole A....
I've been a 'dry' alcoholic since September 5th 2,009 and an off again on again smoker since 16... And you..? Or for that matter anyone else care to come clean..?
if they wanted to feed their ego's then why don't we know for sure who some of the authors of some of the books in the bible (Hebrews, 1st Samuel, Revelation etc) you would think they would have put themselves into their books right? and over many hundred years people just happen to build on other's 'storys'
NOAH’S ARK Q&A
Q) How big was the ark?
A) 450ft by 75ft by 45ft with 3 decks and an 18in overhang.
(Genesis 6:15; 1 cubit = 1.5 feet)
Q) How long did it take to build?
A) 100 years, give or take.
Noah is around 500 years old in Gen 5:32 and when the flood begins in Gen 7:11, he is 600.
Q) How many people were on the Ark and helped build it?
A) 8 people were designated by God to be spared, but the women wouldn’t have done any building. 4 illiterate men did all the work. They found the suitable trees, cut them down, seasoned the wood, transported, cut and shaped it, nailed together with nothing but Bronze Age tools.
Large ships are normally built by organized teams of hundreds or thousands of skilled craftsmen working for years at a time.
Q) What kind of raw materials would he need to build it?
A) Enough trees for 216,525 square feet of wood fort the frame, plus load-bearing walls, interior rooms, stalls, pens, and staircases. Enough pitch (tar) to seal more than 114,750 square feet of exterior (thousands of gallons).
Q) How long were they on the boat?
A) Around a year.
He entered on the 17th day of the 2nd month (Gen 7:11) and left on the 27th day of the 2nd month of the following year (Gen 8:14)
There were 40 days of rain, 150 days of drifting, 150 days of receding water, 4 weeks for the recon birds to find land, 10 days between coming ashore and getting God’s OK to disembark.
Q) How many animals were on it?
A) If we limit our list of animals to those specifically mentioned in the Bible in one verse or another, that’s about 120 “kinds”. God said to snag 7 breeding pairs of clean animals, but only 1 set for the unclean critters, making for a bare minimum of 660.
However, Noah would’ve also had to keep a good stock of animals to feed the carnivores.
The Bible also mentions that Noah started slaughtering cows, sheep and goats as soon as he got out of the boat in order to thank God for His mercy, so he would’ve needed a few spares for that too.
Q) How much food would they need?
A) A lot. From mice who to elephants that eat 100 lbs of food each day.
Food would have been a huge problem. How do you store tens of thousands of pounds of different kinds of food for a year in a confined space during the Bronze Age? The sheer volume would exceed the holding capacity of the Ark.
Q) What about the poop?
A) The Bible does not mention what was done with all those thousands of pounds of excrement or how it was collected, brought on deck and then dumped overboard.
I imagine the Ark was pretty smelly and that the poor humans spent most of their time shoveling sh1t.
Poop decks have evolved.
What about the poop?
----
He probably put the kids on dung duty. Chores.
100 years!? So Evan Almighty couldn't have possibly built an ark in the timframe of the movie? I'm so disenfranchised right now.
They all hybernated.
So Noah's Ark was a Hyper-Sleep chamber?
Ancient Palestinian cryonics, perhaps?
Or was it another of those time-dilation bubbles like the one God used to make the Universe in 6 days even though light from distant solar systems appears billions of years old.
Man only knows time as segmented into past, present and future. In addition man cannot comprehend time outside of the cycle because that is all we know and as such all scientific tools of measurement are founded upon our time and space. If God has the attributes shown in the Bible a literal flood story cannot be ruled out. The Bible does not place the global flood in a given time period it is man who has done that based on mans limited knowledge and further limited by a linear time concept.
Yes, well, if you account for magic, anything is possible. You might have only come into existence in the last second and really just be a microbe on the back of a flea. With god, nothing is impossible.
Cpt
Magic is illusion and although we cannot rule out existence as simply an elaborate illusion we can rule out magic.
At first I thought you said "hyphenated" and wondered why you would care. But then I see you're a troll and a liar, so nevermind.
Doc
Excellent summary, unfortunately misleading. Here is the truth if you are interested:
The chosen ones of God would find it an impossible task to escape judgment outside of the presence of God in their lives. There are a few who will obey God and those who do will face mocking and hostility from the godless. Obedience takes what seems forever yet God will assure that everything that needs to be accomplished to find higher ground will be accomplished before the final moments of life. All things of this world will be washed away while the chosen find comfort in Gods plan of salvation.

That is belief...you have no way of knowing if it actually truth, and THAT is truth.
Let's see where should we look for the truth? Personally I have not seen greater truth than what Jesus presented. I doubt you or I or anyone on this web site could claim greater perspective on truth than Jesus. Moses wrote the flood story down out of oral tradition (or possibly divine inspiration) and Jesus confirmed the truth as I posted it.
What greater truth are you suggesting?
Moses wrote first couple books of OT = FAIL. No evidence exists outside of the biblical claim to support this and I think you would hard pressed to find a single biblical scholar that believes that anymore. Indeed, there appears to be more and more evidence that the Exodus didn't happen and that the jews were originally part of the southern tribes of Canaan.
Yes, I recently read where even a segment of Jews are taking such a liberal position. Jesus referred to Moses on a few occasions mentioned the book of Moses. So, Jesus thought Moses was for real. I can't top Jesus
So why bother with all the exact measurements ?
Fred has special knowledge that lets him know the exact intention of each author of the bible (Oh! and he knows who they were too apparently).
Detail was very important to the Hebrew and they were tasked with bringing forth the exact word of God. They were the keepers of the Law.
God revealed to Noah the exact design of the Ark. In like fashion the plan of salvation, the plan of creation all are at the direction of God. Noah could not design the Ark (place of salvation) but relied on every word that was given by God.
Theists or naught. Life is...
Live
live is life
live
live.
When we all give the power
we all give the best.
Every minute of an hour
don't think about a rest.
Then you all get the power
you all get the best.
When everyone gives everything and every song everybody sings.
Then it's live
live is life
live is life
live.
Live is life – when we all feel the power.
Live is life – come on
stand up and dance!
Live is life – when the feeling of the people –
Live is life – is the feeling of the band.
When we all give the power
we all give the best. . . .
Then it's live
live is life
live
live is life
live.
Live
live is life
live
live is life.
And you call when it's over
you call it should last.
Every minute of the future is a memory of the past.
'Cause we all gave the power
we all gave the best.
And everyone gave everything and every song everybody sang.
Live is life.
I forgot the 'nah nah nah nah'
Logic Lost
I saw a sunset and it was perfect.
Why do you ask me to see another?
For in waiting for the next sunset, I will endure much suffering!
Perfection exists in the suffering too.
Be thankful for the pain.
Did I not thank you by loving you?
The book describing the brutal cat fights that Lilith and Eve used to get into are marvelous. Adam was a lucky dude.
You've never seen Fatal Attraction, have you? 😉
No, I am afraid my research keeps me quite busy.
Busy..? Dr..? Is your research dealing with the medicinal effects of marijuana..?
In the spirit of Kinsey??
Lol??, you are inordinately interested in the sec lives of others, I have noticed.
Research into pics of naykid chilldren. Got it. We'll come to you when we need that stuff, okay.
I am a leader in the field of the Gnostic Gospels. My research is very time consuming.
Be wary of Killing Fields.
Gnostic Gospels? Whew! For a second there I thought maybe you didn't do anything useful...
I am pleased that you admire my work.
I take it the Gnostic Gospels don't say much about sarcasm?
You're a worthless waste of air and space and clueless enough to fall into a hole on purpose. What a maroon.
I see.
At the time Jesus was conceived, it was 100% necessary for a man and a woman to have intercourse to achieve pregnancy. This is a clue that the bible is flawed.
but Mary did see Jesus' face in a piece of toast she cooked one morning. IT'S A MIRACLE!!!
AB
Which brings up the conundrum of in vitro fertilization. When the gamete cells combine to form a reproducing cell (conception in a petri dish) does it at that instance receive a soul as defined by Christians? And if these fetuses are cryogenically frozen do they retain the soul until implanted and or destroyed?
When exactly does "ensoulment" take place anyways?
The Jews believe it happens when the child takes its first breath.
Some Christians seem to believe it happens as soon as dad get a stiffy.
Doc
That being the case I have produced a great many ensoulments over the years, if size doesn't matter.
Strangely, many have mistaken the soul "entering" the body with that of the soul "leaving" the body. Ensoulment takes place at death when you are made into a god part. You see, God is a collective. Many soulganisms are entwined to create a powerful deity.
I thought 'ensoulment' occurred when Buddha decided whether you were going to be a human or a toad this time around...
If you meet the Buddha on the road, Kill Him!
I eat beef, tough luck ancestors.
I was soulless until I heard Al Green for the first time.
AB
Soulganisms must somehow be incorporated into the Brazilian Paradise, priceless wordsmithing.
Marylin Manson's 'Beautiful People' did it for me...
My Sweet Lord, Hindu or Christian and does it matter?
God is not good at math... another clue the bible is flawed
(7:2-3) "Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens."
(7:13-14) "In the selfsame day" All of the animals boarded the ark "in the selfsame day." With a million or so species (There are more than a million known today.), the animals must have boarded at a rate of at least 10 pairs/second.
(7:15) "And they went ... into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein there is breath of life."
(7:8-9) Whether by twos or by sevens, Noah takes representatives from each species of "every thing that creepeth upon the earth." Now this must have taken some time, along with expert knowledge of taxonomy, genetics, biogeography, and anatomy. How did Noah manage to collect the endemic species from the New World, Australia, Polynesia, and other remote regions entirely unknown to him? How, once he found them, did he transport them back to the ark? How could he tell the male and female beetles (there are more than 500,000 species) apart? How did he know how to care for these new and unfamiliar animals? How did he find the space on the ark? How did he manage to find and care for the hundreds of thousands of parasitic species? How did he obtain and care for the hundreds of thousands of species of plants? (Plants are ignored in the Genesis account, but the animals wouldn't last long after if the plants died in the flood.) No, wait, don't tell me. A miracle happened. Millions of them.
(7:9) "There went in two and two."
(7:17)"And the flood was forty days upon the earth."
(7:24) "And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days."
There are hundreds of contradictions, thousands of flaws, and more in those crazy old religious texts.
Who cares? The tards never read the damn thing and don't care what you say anyway. Time to find something else to do.
God created light before he created the sun. This is a clue the bible is flawed.
lol as if God requires the sun to have light. And you people claim to be smart????????????????????? lol
Ron, if there was no sun, please explain where the light was being produced.
Genesis has been proven wrong a bazillion times. It no longer matters what it says because it is all bs anyway.
if that is true then how come the order of the first seven 'days' (I say days b/c the original Hebrew could mean day, or a long period of time) simulates the order of evolution?
lol??
Your comment is awaiting moderation.
Not to worry, it's getting darker all the time.
Amo 5:20 Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?
God died for our sins even though we had not been born yet and therefore had not committed any sins. God created sin to begin with for some unknown reason and since he has a plan for each of us that includes sin, he had to die for us. This is a clue the bible is flawed.
Just because the bible was obviously made up by bored Jews wandering the sandbox of the world does not mean that there is no god out there. It's just not the Christian God.
True. It doesn't mean there is another god(s) either.
Correct, however the idea of God not existing was already implied by Apple Bush's previous comment, making your comment redundant.
But I guess so is correcting a redundant comment on a message board that clearly doesn't value intelligent conversation.
@bostontola
I mean 'Atheism' and 'Ho.mo.se.xu.al.ty'.
L&A,
All AB said was the bible is flawed. You obviously read more into it. You should be more careful with your own projection, esp. if you are going to hurl insults.
AvdBerg: Are you seriously claiming that athiests and ho-mo-se-xu-als cannot be moral or decent?
Berg, it is sad that you do not embrace dignity and equality for all.
Stop stealing from the same CNN you accuse of supporting equality. You look extremely hypocritical.
L&A
Right, Deist thinking, some process created the universe, what that is we have yet to understand, we don't know, but there is certainly no god watching you take a crap or demanding that you toe his line or else you will experience eternal punishment. Modern people are not going to support this scam for much longer, we pray/prey.
Haha but tthey do believe and they will for al long time.
Middle-eastern religions are smart in the sense they know how to indoctrinate men before the common sense part of the brain develops (see Topher).
I'm just thankful atheists aren't executed anymore because they don't believe in popular sky gods throughout history.
Just becuse there isn't a Christian god doesn't mean there couldn't be other godlike or alien beings who are watching us take a crap or whatever. They may not be all good and all powerful , but we have no way at all of even guessing if something is watchingus. We just aren't that smart or knowledgable.
Sara,
If there something watching us, it seems that is all they are doing. There is no objective evidence for any event happening that is outside of natural causes. If so, how is something watching different than nothing watching?
Topher has stated he was atheist for many years before embracing his God.
Akira
Watch what Topher says, it can be diverse. Topher has also stated that in his teens until his mid twenties that he professed to be a Christian but really wasn't until he was born again later in life. Strange stuff coming out of our Topher.

Congregation finds a building in which to practice their religion. Is it me, or is this the non-story it appears to be?
The only part that resembles a story is that the architect apparently did some interesting things to make the transformation successful. They didn't go very deeply into that though.
*yawn*
Editor's note: This story is part of CNN's American Journey series to show how old buildings around the United States have found new purposes and helped to build communities. Are there repurposed buildings in your community? Share the stories with CNN iReport and they could be featured in a CNN story.
USA Today has a better story on demon possessed hotels.
Well, the pope hasn't hugged anyone lately, and there haven't been any natural disasters or mass killings, so this is what we get.
The Editor's Notes requests more stories about "repurposed buildings" from readers. Maybe I'll write about how my neighbor turned his garage into a man cave.
I did that. Where's my write-up?
LOL. Same place as your check for contributing to the CNN blogs.
