Holy Hitchhiker: Pope gives pal a ride on the PopemobileBy Daniel Burke, CNN Belief Blog Co-Editor [twitter-follow screen_name='BurkeCNN'] (CNN) - In yet another breach of normal papal protocol, Pope Francis on Wednesday gave a pal a lift on the world's most exclusive ride: the Popemobile. According to Catholic News Service, the holy hitchhiker was the Rev. Fabian Baez, a priest from Francis' former Archdiocese of Buenos Aires, whom the pope spotted in the crowd at St. Peter's Square. As he helped the priest onto the Popemobile, Francis told Baez, "The picture will go around the world,” CNS reports. The beaming priest rode around St. Peter's Square and was given a special seat at the Pope's speech to the crowd. During the Pope's speech, he urged the crowd to remember their baptism. "Many of us do not have the slightest memory of the celebration of this Sacrament, obviously, if we were baptized shortly after birth," Francis said. "It is important! It is important to know what day you were immersed in that current of salvation of Jesus!" Baez later tweeted in Spanish, “I’m going to change my biography. The poor priest who got on the popemobile today with #PopeFrancis”.
Mark another point for the "Pope of the people." |

what a load of &^^% from this pope.. More junk PR
IMO, the world's most exclusive vehicle is Air Force One.
Way to go Pope!!
Dimantle all the trappings of office and make other leaders and politicians remember that they are one among equals and no greater or holier than their fellow beings.
Everyone loves this pope because he does things like this...His security detail probably hates him for the same reason.
Hey. Who are we to judge? Pope is a person. I like that
I wonder how many Christians would die defending their religion when it gets right down to it. How many Americans would be willing to die for their country today. Then take a look at all the mideast countries in the world to see what is going on there. Is all the fightiong about whose God is God or is it Rich against Poor or just terrorists who kill for no reason at all. Egypt was not attacked by a foreign government, Libya was not attacked by a foreign government, Syria was not attacked by a foreign government. Terrorism is the real enemy of every country and civilized person. Homegrown Terrorism is more alive in America than terrorists from abroad. We must all rise up against terrorists in our own countries before we reach out to help foreign countries.
This Pope is a Marxist – Limbaugh.
Now that just says it all.
This pope is truly wonderful and exemplifies the gospel.
And... the cd playin' in the Pope-mobile was?... Pusha T's "My Name Is My Name"... So the Pope is down with hard rap!!!
I love this Pope!!! He walks his talk so many times, that his feet are raw! He's the Real Thing!!
Translation: Benedict sucked as pope.
Translation of Realist's comment: "Someone likes the Pope and I have to change the subject quickly."
No way?! He gave a ride to a old friend who also happens to be a priest? How saintly!!! Religion is a joke.
You seem to have missed about 99.999% of what this man has done.
The pope needs to put his money where his mouth is.
Catholicism is the only Christianity this world needs. I have attended them all (well, most) and I can attest that the substance is either the SAME or lacking in other masses. The only obvious differences are the used car salesman-esque priests whose personal profits are through the roof, or masses that emphasize a "party" type atmosphere (because the congregation apparently can't handle somber reflection). A modern, reformed Catholicism is 100X preferable to this free-for-all ocean of hack cult operations.
Not Catholic. Just expressing some truth.
Driver, stop the car! I know that guy.
It's a good thing the Pope isn't here in the upper Midwest of the U.S. He would undoubtedly have become a "Popesicle" by now.
He is just a trip. I bet his security team is wondering what on earth they have gotten themselves into. He is a wild rebel. LOL
Is electus est, qui infra nos est. Nunc tempus est. Gaudete.
Newsflash: President Bush picked up a hitchhiker once in Air Force 1. He let Dick Cheney ride with him.
Dude, spit my water out. Great one!!
LOL! Just wet my pants!
So exactly how is this related to Benghazi? GO!
What a coincidence. Frankie picked me up last week while hitchhiking too – we split a blunt & grooved to Led Zepplin... he's cool – makes me think that there is hope in religious people afterall..
The Pope is racking up a lot of popularity points!
Popular yes,,,,actually doing anything different.....no
